The Laughing Gravy
Relaxed and inviting, we offer an incredible menu of fresh, seasonal dishes with a well-chosen wine list that reflects our attention to detail.
Occupying the ground floor of an original foundry building, the restaurant, which is in walking distance from both the Old and Young Vic, seats up to 50 diners and has a buzzy bar.
Smoked scallop and crayfish Scotch egg, carrot and bergamot pure
Pan-fried market fish, seaweed and artichoke hash browns, buttered mixed kale, roast artichoke and lemon butter pure
Lincolnshire rib-eye (250g), wild mushrooms, shallots, Madeira sauce, garlic butter
Really good food, nice service. I booked after seeing good reviews and those reviews were spot on! The scallop scotch egg is great and the roast! Would definitely come again, this is very nice and refined British food!
It was great to return to The laughing gravy. As always a lovely Sunday lunch with great service. Highly recommended.
I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant. Not the biggest menu but beautifully presented and tasted fantastic! Service just right and made to feel very comfortable
lovely meal nice staff would recommend
As good as ever. We need to support restaurants such as Laughing Gravy, as they may no longer be there if we ever get back to normal. Thanks for a delicious lunch.
3rd visit for a Sunday lunch and never disappoints. We will return on our next visit to London.
Overall very good experience, great food and good wine, very caring service.
Maybe the roast beef I orded was a bit too done but I am not very experienced with english Sunday's roasts and maybe it was supposed to be this way, still the meat tasted very nice and felt very soft when eaten.
5 stars well deserved.
Food and drink is excellent. Service can be very poor
Excellent venue, friendly staff , great food, what more could you ask for.
So pleased that Laughing Gravy has reopened. The food was excellent as ever and the service is top class from friendly staff
We were delighted that the Laughing Gravy was open again. The food and service were impeccable as always. We enjoy every visit!
On only their second evening since reopening after lockdown the Laughing Gravy team we’re back to their best. Great food, superb wine and charming service were all there in abundance and it was wonderful to see how nothing had been forgotten since they’d been away.
With a few tables taken out, and the dining room slightly reconfigured for Covid safety purposes, the atmosphere was buzzy without feeling scary. A great evening and brilliant to see the LG back at its best!
Lovely local restaurant, friendly staff, great food and excellent value
Great as usual. I have been there few times and that tell a lot about the I enjoy this restaurant.
The only comment I will tell due to Covid situation I found some server not careful and they were seating with customers (one in particular). Even if they know them, this is really not good for the other customers they are in contact with.
I came here for my boyfriends birthday. We both had the roast beef which was absolutely delicious. Service was really good and we will definitely be back.
Beautiful Sunday lunch very tasty with three choices of meat
Amazing venison wellington, great starters and cocktails too - delightful
Amazing starters, cocktails and venison Wellington. Will definitely go back.
Great food, great wine, service is attentive and efficient but the staff are very serious
Absolutely superb meal. Even though the prices are a little high, the quality of the dishes and ingredients used is exceptional.
Beautiful food and excellent service. Will definitely go again.
Once again the Team at the Laughing Gravy produced great food with some unusual options on the menu which differentiate it from other restaurants - at reasonable prices and in a great atmosphere. Service was excellent as always - see you again very soon
It was a Monday lunchtime, so to find three other tables occupied must be a good sign. The staff give an air of quiet competence, and the food is as before very well done- a burger may not be the supreme test of a kitchen, but they do it well here-and it comes rosy pink in the middle, which is how I like it!
so no fuss, no bother and straightforward good cooking- perfect !
Great food, really lovely staff great place to go for Sunday lunch. The bloody Mary’s are very spicy so if you dont like rocket fuel ask for a milder one.
The food was ok the service was excellent so we left a £10 tip on the table for our servers but upon paying the bill I happened to notice a £14 service charge had been added plus a £1 donation to some charity the restaurant was supporting. I wasn’t told about either charge in advance so I objected and removed the £1 donation and picked tge £10 tip up off the table and left feeling ripped off.
Hi, We are really sorry to hear you felt unhappy with the charity donation and the service charge. Both are 100% optional and it's never a problem to remove them. We are currently trying to raise money for homeless charity Shelter by adding £1 to a table's bill. We do make sure to state on all our menus that we add the discretionary service to bills, and it is marked as a separate line on all bills.
Sunday lunch roasts were a little disappointing - food was lukewarm, vegetables were too ‘al dente’ and lacking flavour, and potatoes were scarce. Sweets were complicated and expensive. Coffee was strong and bitter.
We thought that the service was especially friendly and we had a wonderful memorable meal. We could have done without the bland popmusic in the background. Jazz would suit the ambiance more. All round,a great evening.
Lovely restaurant. My wife and I really enjoyed it. Quite, cosy, friendly, and great food!
Amazing service and excellent food, Hightower recommend!
Lovely little restaurant, friendly and helpful staff, great service, and the Sunday roast is a must have.
Starters, desserts and drinks were very good. Service was great. While the mains were nice, I think they're overpriced.
The waiting staff were very nice and the service was good, but the food was really mediocre and for that, ridiculously over-priced.
Just average. Kitchen trying to hard. Menu does not read well and is overpriced. The room itself is just a room with no real warmth, it's just a space to eat. Not sure why other reviews are so glowing.
We have visited the Laughing Gravy for Valentines Day for 18 years now and would highly recommend the restaurant
Great ambience , excellent service and delicious food
Booked for next year already
Love love love this place!!!
The food, atmosphere and service were spot on. Can not fault it!
If we are ever back in London we will be back!!!
Food was amazing! Keep thinking about it days afterwards
Super menu with some great seasonal choices, great wine list too and not too pricey. A perfect place to eat near Waterloo / South Bank, but definitely book!!
Out of the road and an amazing place to stumble across. Food excellent
Friendly staff and very good food. Would recommend.
