Great service in fantastic surroundings. One of my favourite central London bars
This has become my go-to restaurant for when family and friends visit, getting the train in to Kings Cross. Location is convenient. Beautiful spot next to the river. Staff are always helpful and friendly. Food is quick and delicious! Pricing is very reasonable for central London. I would definitely recommend!
Beautiful outdoor table setting and great for group drinks - delicious and potent cocktails!
Beautiful location, sat outside upstairs with a lovely view of Granary Square! Booking was simple and the food was delicious. A little on the pricey side, but a classy experience so worth it as a treat!
Very nice drinks choices from spirits to cocktails. The atmosphere and location is really nice and the chilli squid appetiser was excellent.
The Lighterman is in a great location and has a nice, buzzy atmosphere. We dined there on a busy Saturday evening when the weather was balmy, which I think contributed to the chaotic service as there was a never-ending stream of people queuing for tables. We arrived 10 minutes early and were told our table wasn't ready and to come back at the time of the booking, which we did and still had to wait a further 15 minutes before being seated. We weren't offered any refreshments while we waited, although we were pointed in the direction of their takeaway bar.
We were sat in the ground floor outdoor area facing the fountain, which catches the evening sun and there was enough shade from the umbrellas. The upstairs terrace looked nicer, so would recommend asking for a table there when booking.
The food was average. 3 of us had the beef burger which we all thought had an odd texture and tasted cheap. I found a bit of bone in mine and the others found gristle. The chips were nice though.
We were a table of 9, it was a very busy Saturday afternoon. We had a great time, however the time went far too quickly. We had the table for two and half hours, but as you can imagine with a table of 9 things do take more time. The food was great, the service was great and it's a lovely location.
However, we were given our bill as we finished our mains. We didn't even ask for the bill, this is my one bug bear, at least clear the table first and ask us politely. I did talk to one of the waiters and they gave us another table so we could finish our drinks.
A fine large Gastropub with a wonderful location being situated in Coal Drops Yard, Granary Square and overlooking the canal in the newly refurbished Kings Cross area.
They have ample outdoor and terraced dining and several large indoor dining and bar areas.
It is very popular and a very busy venue with a number of bars including Canalside.
The staff were friendly and quite efficient.
Our waiter Simone deserves a mention as although they were extremely busy he was always helpful and available.
We enjoyed several cocktails including the Bombay Bramble Gin and a variety of their Aperol Spritz.
We had the Crispy Squid in lime and Chili and the Sweet potato fries from the sides menu.
They have a Brunch menu from which we ordered the Salt Beef Hash however that menu is not available after 4pm.
From the main menu we had the Dexter Burger and the pan seared Loch Duart Salmon which were both excellent and I would certainly recommend.
We had a great time and the food was good.
The ambiance is very lively and vibrant and it is a great place to meet friends for a meal or just drinks.
Our reservation was for 2.5 hours which is not enough but it is a busy venue.
Although Simone was very quick and prompt with our orders the next table(Alex and Jane) were somewhat unhappy as it took them 40 minutes to get their order.
I guess a few more waiting staff would help.
Overall though we had a great time and the bill was quite reasonable.
I would certainly recommend it as a place to visit if you are in King's Cross.
Lovely for drinks and nibbles overlooking granary square. Couldn’t fault the experience. Accommodated for us to sit outside even though we booked indoor seating.
Great venue. Excellent service. Only gave the food 4/5 stars as only had a snack in there (the snack was very good though)
Lovely location. Great table on outside balcony overlooking Coal Drops Yard and Granary Square. Brunch was delicious. Good coffee and Juices. Service overall very good
It was family get together with two birthday person amd they made it even more special with sweet treats and birthday candlea. Really recomend it to everyone.
Really great place, they were very accommodating with our request to be sat outside in the sunshine, and great table service. Staff were very welcoming and friendly.
Very smart place excellent set ode and great ambiance
Lovely food and service - quite pricey for a salad with salmon added ….
Good designed restaurant with very good view, and very kind staff as well.. However, there is a big acoustic problem in design.. Noises are heard much higher because of acoustic problem.. Incredible noisy. So, when you make a dinner you need to speak very loudly to your partner :)
Please sort this problem.. :)
Considering the restrictions that the hospitality business are under, The Lighterman made light work of it - they were very very organised. The venue was very clean and service good. It was a very busy evening particularly outside - but I didn't wait long to be served. Food and drink felt a little expensive, but in line with Zone 1 pricing. I will definitely come back to enjoy this really nice bar and the good location. All in all, had a good, enjoyable evening.
I booked a table for 6 inside and 8 people turned up. Staff were hugely accommodating and sorted out an additional table immediately. Great service and overall vibe. Thank you
Great cocktails, amazing service, really enjoyed it.
Booked a table for 8 expecting us to be outside(as 8 being inside is against COVID rules and I’d used the outside check in open table) and was told we had to be inside and sit in 2 tables. Was at fist told that it was because they were allowed up to 12 inside and hadn’t specified outside in the booking. Then got a different person telling us only 6 were allowed inside and we had to sit on 2 tables and it was our fault for not specifying outside. She then tried to oust us from our table an hour before we had been told we had to leave and had to prove that we had agreed a 2.5 hr sitting. And loads of tables available outside the whole time. Rubbish.
Thanks again for a lovely lunch… This time outside, so enjoyed lunch in the Sun.
Good for a drink. Don't eat there, not worth the money. Shame cause the location is really nice. If you're looking for food, there are lots of other places with good food nearby.
Fantastic setting and great spot for drinks on the terrace!
Good for business and fun meals. not sure about families. the canalside bar looked lovely but was not open for lunch.
Lovely spot and service excellent. Food was not as good as previous visits. Had the lamb and wild garlic pie which was a bit runny and beefburger was OK but nothing special. It’s a lovely spot for drinks though and has a great vibe and friendly staff so overall experience was good. If the food gets back to previous form I’d rate it even higher.
Great service, food and drinks on a busy evening.
We had a table booked outside which was greatly helped by the warm, sunny weather. The awning provided plenty of shade without making the table seem too cold or dark.
The service was excellent - the waiting staff provided plenty of assistance in advising 2 of our party who have very specific dietary requirements and the kitchen were happy to make slight adjustments to the meals to accommodate.
The atmosphere was great - very buzzy without being so loud that you couldn't hold a decent conversation.
The drinks were slightly expensive, but hey, this is central London, what do you expect?
Burgers were great and so was our waiter service, but two of us ordered flatbreads
with prawns - they were poor - hardly any prawns - when we asked the manageress
she did not handle this in an appropriate manner.
Great menu, service, design and atmosphere.
Always a lovely experience.
Perfect table outside in shade. Excellent restaurant. Totally recommend for all.
Thank you for a great evening! We had a table at 6pm and left at 10.30. Great service lovely food and a great ambience!
Enjoyed my lunch outside. Great service and food was just what I was after..
Had the roast beef, it was the best roast I’ve ever had!!! Bit expensive but worth every penny.
Nice friendly bar, staff are happy to serve, nice choice of drinks
Food was tasty. Place really nice and well located
The booking process was easy and straightforward. On arrival, welcome was good, location was fabulous with the outside seating amazing, service and food also outstanding. Would definitely recommend and return.
Lovely food, friendly staff, just wish there was more of a breakfast menu
Hi, wonderful place & staff good.
My shrimp burger was a bit too salty. On this occasion I was very hungry & enjoying my friends company too much to say anything...
Cream I believe in Eton mess extremely sweet... The cream didn't quiet cut through the sweetness of the meringue, it was just all very sweet. Nice food presentation. Lovely place for drinks anyhow. Thank u
Good food and venue with plenty of outdoor seating. Clean toilets too !
Excellent service. Food and drink was very high quality.
