The Lighterman, a pub, dining room & bar, is open from lunch through to dinner and welcomes you all day on weekends. Our Head Chef has created a modern British menu with European influences. The extensive drinks menu includes draught & bottled beers, craft ales and seasonal cocktails, together with a well-curated and affordable wine list. There is plenty of outdoor seating. The canal-side bar with alfresco terrace overlooks the water, the ground floor has seating directly onto Granary Square and the top floor has its own wraparound terrace, with panoramic views across the square and canal.

Was a great experience, waiting staff very attentive and pleasant and interested in making our experience pleasant. Not a cheap place for drinks but did feel upmarket and a special occasion.

This was my third visit to The Lighterman in 6 months and once again, my friends and I had a great time.
Whilst the menu is not extensive, all choices are top of class and not too expensive.
The service was efficient , delivered with just the right level of familiarity and the all round views of Granary Square lit up in festive lights created a truly fabulous atmosphere.
The only criticism was the noise level- just a bit loud for my liking!

As soon as we arrived we were told when we had to leave.
2 of our party were without drinks while the other 2 had their food served. Lovely venue but hit & miss service.

Really impressed with the food and some of the service. Would have been better if the drinks came before the food and my coffee arrived at the end of the meal (it got forgotten). Shame as the manager, setting, food and drink were all amazing.

Extremely helpful service from all, including the waiter who ran out with one of our party's forgotten coats, finally catching up with us as we crossed the canal!

Food is good but standard, and cocktails were more premixed than not, but the bar and waiting staff were working their way through the Christmas crowd with skill and good humour - and besides, you're coming here for the location and atmosphere, not the gourmet food and artisan cocktails. Recommended for what it is - a popular stylish bar in a good location, and brasserie food that's perfectly good and exactly what you expect.

Everything fine as always, except the noise level on the ground floor made conversation difficult - so everyone shouts! Catch 22. Upstairs is quieter, so must remember to specify.

Excellent experience - from the moment you walk through the door to the time you have to go home, the minutes are filled with fun, food and fab service. I would definitely visit again - it’s somewhere that can only leave a good impression.

Sofia (front of house) was an absolute hero, we had erroneously booked the wrong night, but when she saw what had happened she not only found us a table, but managed to get us one upstairs with stunning views of the canal. We really enjoyed the cocktails, wine and food. The flatbreads are sensational! but everything we were served was delicious, and service was very attentive. We will be coming back - but next time I won't make a fat finger on the calendar booking. Thank you!

We arrived for dinner at 6:30pm on a Monday and the place was buzzing inside and out. Our table was on the first floor, which was less busy and had a relaxed vibe. It has the added bonus of views across Granary Square towards the canal. The staff were friendly and attentive to our needs and helpful with recommendations. We were all happy with our food and the wine selection. I'd certainly book again.

We were very disappointed with our meal at the Lighterman. There was a limited menu offered as it was a Sunday but then two items were not available either. The starter we had was essentially mushrooms on toast (given a fancy name) but the toast was over cooked. Our main meal was a chicken roast with trimmings which although plentiful was heavily over salted. In fact I felt so ill afterwards that I would never go here again and would certainly not recommend the place to others. It was hugely overpriced too.

Such a nice looking place but the worst service I’ve experienced in 15 years of living in London.
No one asked how we were, if we enjoyed the food etc. they slammed the menus down and walked off - the only conversation we had was with the woman on the door who told us we had the table until 9, but didn’t say hello or good evening. It was almost impossible to track someone down to get served - when we did get served they forgot items then it took forever to find someone to get the drinks/food they’d missed (write it down if you can’t remember!)
Allocate a member of staff to a section - have them serve a few tables and do it it well! The place was not busy but We got served by about 4 different people, all of whom looked like they were there with a gun to their head. Terrible, terrible experience.

Great location for Brunch, ambience excellent, mixed crowd and staff did their best despite being slighly overwhelmed - everywhere is struggling so need to be a bit patient! Sister venues also excellent, best small pub chain in London.

Disappointing. Some of the food overcooked. Duck pie, no DUCK!
Over priced steak. Noise so load difficult to converse.
Went for a celebration but left as soon as was practical. Sorry for being so negative but shall not book again.

The food was great, we had a nice table and the service was okay. (One rather grumpy but satisfactory waitress, one lovely waiter). But the noise level! Wowsers. You guys really need some soft furnishings in there to muffle the noise a bit. We were only a table of three but had we been more than four there would have been people I simply couldn’t hear or speak to. Please do something - table cloths and rugs, perhaps?

Food was good, but we were disappointed that we were not immediately offered a window table when one was actually free. The biggest issue was that I had a glass of red wine, and the person who poured it poured the last of the bottle into the glass. So half way through I spotted a lot of sediment in my glass that in my view made it undrinkable. We pointed this out to a waiter and he was most reluctant to change the glass, and when it was (finally) replaced I did not get a full replacement glass, or an apology. All quite disappointing and I’m not convinced we will return.

Too loud for us to be able to hear each other clearly (5 people on one table). Acoustics could be improved. Not great for a business meeting (or any event when you want to speak with other members of your party).

Lovely upstairs (downstairs too noisy?), and REALLY delightful friendly, courteous, intuitive, helpful young waiters and waitresses.

Good rather than spectacular food (not quite hot enough, for example), but service more important, frankly, and we had a lovely time.

We both had the haddock which sorry to say it was pretty ropy. It had a breadcrumb then deep-fried I think which made it very hard I probably wouldn't go back for this reason.

Excellent food, very empathetic service.

Would be great if they put a few soft surfaces in, or suspended from the ceiling to help with acoustics as it does get very noisy.

Disappointing. Visited on a Sunday, staff were poorly trained. Rushed in to placing our order, roast chicken was delivered cold, gravy was tepid at best. Waiting staff were unable to open a bottle of wine, we were not asked if we would like to try the wine first. Overall a very poor visit.

The service was a bit slow and one of our orders did appear to have been forgotten as it never arrived with the other food. But after we spoke with a staff, they quickly prepared this and delivered to us.
