The Lion has changed hands and the new owners are not (yet) connected to Open Table, so our long-created reservation would not have been recognised had I not called to check. Then I discovered that the place is about (early Feb) to close for refurbishment, so decided to hold off for a while
The meal was for friends who meet up irregularly but had a wonderful time in a great restaurant. We were not rushed and the service was excellent.
very slow service, we did not get anything to eat for an hour and had to go to the bar to get coffees at the end of the meal. this was a great lunch venue until changing hands, used to have two courses for a good price, now the choice is sandwiches or a la carte main menu so expensive for lunch. Very disappointed
Have eaten here a few times and never been disappointed. As a veggie I sometimes struggle to get nice meals that aren't just lasagne or risotto. Good value for money and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be eating here again.
It’s my second time at the lion and can’t fault it. The food was great, staff were really friendly and it looks amazing. I’d recommend the lion to friends and family
Second visit and still happy with the overall package. If I was looking to give some constructive criticism I’d say that the food could have used a little more seasoning, particularly the game pie, but it was well cooked and we enjoyed it.
The only real issue we had was the temperature in the extension. It was very cold outside and the cool air was getting in somewhere despite the rest of the pub being very cosy.
We do, however, enjoy the Lion and will be back. The service is always good and nobody is too pushy which is very welcome.
Thanks again for a nice visit.
Very impressed by the attitude of staff on every occasion and the dog is also made to feel welcome
Lovely meal in a comfortable setting We will be back
Very nice afternoon with friends, food was good only improvement would have been a pot of gravey with the game pie. It’s quite expensive for lunch our bill was £30 ph which included two young teenage girls.
We booked a table for New Years Eve before Christmas. Contacted by The Lion after Christmas and told it would be hot and cold buffet with music. Unfortunately music and food was on conservatory and tables reserved for large parties. Where we sat we could not hear music. The food was cold and I had to ask for mine to be put on microwave. Not good value at £30 a headfir 3 of us. The had empty tables so perhaps people knew better than us. We are new to Bicester but will be a while before we go back to The Lion. Such a pity as it’s a nice looking pub
Good place to meet up with friends. Easy parking. Good selection of dishes on the menu for different tastes and appetites.
Nice ambience, pleasant staff, very average food! Such a shame as this place was recommended to me for hearty pub food. We ended up leaving food on our plates because it just wasn’t appetising enough to finish.
Was very happy with the meal me & my friends had, we came on Christmas Eve and it felt very festive & cosy. Cocktails & wine we had were fantastic along with our roast dinners! Ive been many times to The Lion and each time ive been happy with my visits!
Would definitely recommend for an occasion!
Couldn’t fault our visit. Welcoming friendly staff, cosy bar area with log fire. The atmosphere in both the bar and restaurant was very relaxed.
The food was fantastic and plentiful. There is ample parking in the pub Carpark and nice outdoor seating area. I have no hesitation in recommending The Lion.
The OpenTable site states that AMEX is accepted, this is now, unfortunately, no longer the case. However, parking off site is now in the past as there is a sizeable pub car park.
The Lion is a really good dining pub. During the week it has a very good value set menu.
