Outside on a good day although there is no table service outside. But we sat inside and the service was amazing. Food portions are very large. I had the lamb roast and my girlfriend had the duck and it was plenty. We did need to ask for more bread for the camembert.
Lovely setting friendly staff and good food ideal place to sit and relax with friends or family really enjoyed the experience and would go again
We went on a lovely summers day and they had a great band playing which made it all even nicer. They were understaffed but the staff were hustling and doing their best which we really appreciated. The food wasn’t amazing but when I sent my roast beef back because it was over cooked it wasn’t a problem for them. For some reason though I just think a place like that could really serve amazing food and that just didn’t seem to be the case for the price they were charging. We will most definitely visit again but more for the ambience than a gastronomic experience.
While the food was good, and the surrounds unique, it wasn't what I had hoped. On Sunday morning, I did a search for places that served afternoon tea on the western side of the London metro area. I wanted to go to afternoon tea on Sunday afternoon. I chose the Lock and Quay because of all available information on Open Table.
However, when I arrived at the Lock and Quay for my scheduled afternoon tea, and when I was finally helped, a member of the staff informed me that the Lock and Quay doesn't do afternoon tea on Sunday, and only does afternoon tea if the reservation is made at least a day in advance - neither of these things were articulated when I made my reservations. So, not sure where the problem lies - Open Table or Lock and Quay. Either way, no afternoon tea for me on my last day in the UK. I passed that disconnect on to the team there.
I did, however, like what I saw of the restaurant and surrounding area, so I decided to stay and eat from the regular menu. The food was good, and there was live music, so that was unexpected plus.
Hi Elizabeth Many thanks for your review, Im so sorry that we was not able to supply afternoon tea last Sunday. I have written to open table as im still unsure as where this has been advertised .. Im pleased though that you stayed and enjoyed your fish & chips. Hope to see you again on your next visit to the UK Kind Regards Denise
we went on a Thursday lunchtime, weather was lovely so we ate outside
Professional staff, excellent service, great food. Reserved a table outside, to celebrate my friends birthday and brought our 2 dogs (hence the outdoor reservation). The staff could not do enough for us, and made our visit throughly enjoyable. I organised a cake, and they played Happy Birthday by Stevie Wonder over the tannoy. I could not have asked for more. Highly recommend this restaurant, especially to hire for a special occasion.
I booked this as i was visiting London with my daughter and grand daughter and it was close to our hotel. Luckily I used my sat nav as it was quite difficult to find but worth it as it was a lovely quiet location by the river. It was a really hot day so chose to eat outside as the restaurant inside was really hot and stuffy. There was a singer playing which made the ambience really nice. As it was so hot we chose a sharing platter plus a prawn cocktail
which was really nice although the waitress had to get another as she dropped the first one. The young staff were really nice and chatty but can’t say the same for the lady serving at the bar she just didn’t seem that friendly. Overall a lovely location bit of an oasis although drinks were expensive. Would go again.
Hi Denise6 Many thanks for your review, so pleased to hear you enjoyed your lunch outside at the weekend. Thank you for bringing to my attention the bar person issue.... which i will action accordingly . Hope to see you again soon Kind Regards Denise
A lovely peaceful location beside the canal.
Good food and service.
Excellent service, food & atmosphere. Also good value for money.
Hi Angela Many thanks for your review , much appreciated . hope to see you soon Kind Regards Denise
We found the food very well cooked and the service was excellent and it is set in a very pleasant and peaceful location. We shall certainly be returning for further visits.
Disappointed that when we arrived at 7 pm, our server agreed that we could enjoy happy hour half-price cocktails only to be told when the bill was printed at the end of the evening, that we had been charged in full due to us arriving 2 minutes after 7 pm. Not impressed!
Food was excellent but very slow delivery.
Food was ok. Steak was over cooked. Too expensive based on quality of the food.
A peaceful and picturesque dining spot with plenty of outside seating. The staff were friendly.
Enjoyed both our meals and the "tapas" for starters. Probably 5 miles from the airport, but in the middle of nowhere.
i have visited this restaurant ,on at least 5 occasions now
The drinks are a little pricey , but the food is fantastic
The service is always excellent , the staff are very friendly and attentive
will be going back
The food was overpriced . They brought the wrong wine over. Whilst waiting for the table I ordered drinks to have whilst waiting - the bar staff insisted we order them when we get on the table. They took the order finally and the drinks took too long! The food was overpriced for the portion .
Food was really good but service was very poor considering there was 3 tables occupied including us They made mistake with drinks order and still added cost to bill ??
Lovely restaurant and service. Food always delicious!
I booked afternoon tea for my mums birthday there was 4 of us and bill come to £100 and food was nice but found it expensive for what we got and we had to ask for tea and coffee and didn't use nice cups what was all set out they gave us old white cups to use
The food was nice and the staff were friendly. The outside is amazing
My partner and I spent Valentines evening at this restaurant. The service was friendly and efficient.
The food was excellent. We shared 3 different starters between us. All very tasty with decent portions. We both chose a fish main. My sea Bream was a special on the menu that night and was delicious. I can honesty say that my partners fish pie was the best I've ever tasted.
The only small criticism was there was no sticky toffee pudding , which as both our choice for desert.
However the apple crumble tarte and ice cream replacement was lovely. We will definitely be returning and would recommend this restaurant to friends.
Had a cracking Sunday lunch here! Both carnivores and vegetarians were exceedingly happy with there meals so will definately be heading back as soon as we can!
Excellent as ever and good to see it is thriving and doing well
Delicious food and quality service
Food excellent. Cosy atmosphere. Very good service.
Will definitely visit again!
Fantastic food, Staff always polite courteous and happy to help or recommend.
very friendly helpful staff. Lovely food, freshly prepared/
We went for the Steak Special on Thursday evenings.
We first were offered the regular menus before we asked for the Special Steaks. They were the same as on the menu but really cheaper.
The service took ages and was a bit chaotic but finally the meal was worth it, fresh fries and good meat.
Second time at The Lock & Quay after a relaunch about two plus years ago. The only reason we have not been back sooner is that we have moved 50 miles away! Unusual setting on the marina and perfect for a lazy weekend brunch/lunch. Live folk singers was an added bonus on the Sunday we visited. Food could not be faulted and the portions were generous.
The restaurant is not as good as what review has said. Correction, far from the fact. The waitress was very inexperienced but that is all right for us. Everyone needs to work to get experience. The waiter is very slow, that is also fine as he needs to work to get experience and therefore speed it up. But we are not happy at all when we have to wait for half an hour for our starters, and another 20 minutes for main course - beef fillet which was served not warm. My second drink came after 20 minutes i ordered. There were not many guests then. The most disgusting part is the plates/saurcer were dirty. The waitress had to change them for us and she said herself that even she could not accept this. So, i wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The food was outstanding and worth the money would definitely visit there again
I reviewed this on TA with what I consider to be a fair review. I can't be bothered to type it out fully but to summarise....lovely setting, lovely waitress, lovely hot food, very slow service & too noisy to be enjoyable as they had an acoustic guitarist & a 50th birthday party on.
A little out of the way if it wasn't for the signs you would never know its there, a little awkward to get to but nice little restaurant.
Great food as usual always a lovely welcome and lovely relaxing location for food or just sit and enjoy a great cocktail pay a visit you won't be disappointed
Food was excellent and good value staff were friendly and looked after us well. Just one thing let it down was that when I booked I was not made aware that there was live music and having to wear hearing aids I could not hear other members of our party properly which was annoying.
Thursday night is steak night at the Quayside Bistro and boy is the food fab. Plentiful and cooked to perfection my family and I enjoyed a lovely evening looking out over the chilly Marina. The staff are extremely friendly and nothing is too much bother. The food is nicely presented and as I say there is plenty of it, so much so I couldn't manage a pudding which is not like me. If you fancy an early weeekend food blow out then I highly recommend steak night. Bon appetite!
The food was very well cooked and the service excellent and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit
Sunday lunch was an excellent experience ! From booking a table ,food and customer service were all beyond expectations! Very warm greeting & genuinely pleased to see us! Table next to window as requested! The meal was excellent , my Sunday Roast was perfect! The dessert was to die for! OMG.......Thankyou to all at the Lock & Quay.......well done 👍🍴🍷
This was our 3rd visit, it was New years Eve and a pre booked set evening meal, with live music for £45.
We booked for 9pm and when we arrived a man rushed to the door asking if we had a table booked, we expected to be advised about our table, nothing happened. We went in, no one came over and the man went and stood at the bar. The place was busy, and lively after all it was new years eve, after previous visits it was a relief it was not empty. Eventually the owner who was solely serving at the bar came over and asked us for our drink order, i then said we had a table booked. After about 10 or minutes we were shown to our table, the music was very loud and talking was difficult. A little later the waitress took our order, she also asked for our dessert order, which seemed a little strange, we drank our wine which we had got at the bar and waited for our starter, and waited and waited. Our starter finally came at approx 10.15pm. During this time the couple on the next table had finished their meal and moved to the bar. We had been given some bread and not finished it and the waitress removed it and we expected our meal to follow. At about 10.45 a small course arrived this was the 3rd course, where was our main? We called the waitress over explained we had not had our main and she took it away. By now it was evident the restaurant and bar was not coping with the evening. Next a dancing couple in the bar moved to the dining area, moved the previous diners table away and started dancing closely to us. Next five people from the bar area moved over and sat at a table behind us. As the time was now 11pm i couldn't blame the people for not knowing we were still dining, and, had not even had our main course. We decided to leave and salvage what was left of new years eve - i don't think anyone noticed. We will not return.
The restaurant has the potential to be a great local place to eat as it has good food.
But, lacks ambience and people. They always tell you to book but when you do its never busy, you could be the only diners. Its a little on the pricey side to risk a drive and an evening there. Such a shame, needs something more to draw the people there. ps the locals appear to be the people in the bar and view you like a stranger to a remote village pub:)) although I'm sure its just because its so empty and a natural response.
The restaurant was easy to find and was clean and the ambence was good. The restaurant was not very busy when we where there only two other groups of dinners.
The service was good, a little slow but they did not rush you. The food was very good when it arrived and there was no problems when we pointed out that one of the meals was not cooked to order and it was promply taken back and another meal provided.
Taking all into account we would say that we would dine there again on a special occassion
