The Mark Cross Inn
We had an excellent family lunch ,6 adults,4children (well behaved !)The food was delicious we all had roasts. The staff were so friendly and efficient,Which was amazing as they were soo busy.We asked for some more cabbage and very quickly a whole dish of veg !!!!The only negative thing was the mixed roast were over £20,a bit steep. However I would recommend The Mark Cross and will go again.
Great staff, great food, lovely atmosphere. We go there a lot and find the service and the quality of the food always very consistent
Lovely. We were welcomed nicely.
Will our waiter looked after really well. He very kindly moved us to another table which was better for all of us. We had a lovely lunch.
I tried the Banana Blossom “ fish and chips” weird but actually ok.
We arrived well in advance of our booked time, table was ready, and we were warmly welcomed
An excellent venue with a varied menu, great service and a happy ambience.
Fantastic food, extremely helpful and friendly staff. Would certainly recommend this establishment to others....enjoy!
Great food, lovely setting and friendly service. Regular visitors on a Sunday for a Sunday roast. One of my favourite places.
We had a great meal with friends at the Mark Cross Inn. The food was excellent and service good. It was not too busy or noisy when we were there, and it was a Saturday night.
This used to be one of our favourite places to eat, then it went down hill for a while. Decided to give it one more try, so glad we did, as it is back to its high standard. We have even booked here for our Xmas meal. Food is a bit pricey, but you don't mind when it's good, and this is.
The ambience was fine. Service good. Noise level a somewhat high. Been better if it had been warm enough to sit in garden. Food rather expensive and not exciting! Bit of a debate if my prawns were actually prawns or shrimps!! Curry very mediocre.
Lovely place, staff very helpful. Food was great and it was lovely to sit outside and enjoy good weather with a lovely lunch.
Lovely surroundings and helpful staff. Food was over priced for what it was and not the same quality as on previous visits. Classic burger came in bun with a slice of tomato and a lettuce leaf and chips, if you want anything extra like onion, cheese etc you have to pay extra (something that comes as standard elsewhere.)
Nice food, service was good. Would go back again. View and garden lovely when weather is good.
Lovely big tables to eat at, lots of space.
Sunday lunch was very good.
We had a very pleasant evening, the food was good and the staff helpful and friendly. Thanks
Fantastic food and a good range to choose from. Service was excellent.
Food was good, but I have an issue with the pricing.
Firstly the nut roast was priced at the same price as the meat roasts - not sure how that works out - and secondly, I asked to have just the vegetables (as I don't like nut roasts) and I was charged the same amount?! Again not sure how that works.
Also service was a little shoddy - took them 15 minutes to take out drink order.
The service was quick and the young lady greeted us politely and was fun to chat with. She took our orders after giving us more time to choose and suggested alternatives.
We ordered mains and dessert. Starting with the dessert, these were delicious and looked yummy. Sadly, the mains (burgers, beef and chicken) were not well presented and were quite dry, bordering on over-cooked. The accompanying salad was a thick slice of tomato, a very small amount of sliced onion and two pieces of lettuce. The fries were tasty though.
So, staff were nice, dessert great but burgers, not so great.
Staff were all very helpful and friendly.
Didn't quite get what we ordered. ie. Fat chips instead of skinny. Toasted ciabata when we asked for untoasted. These were only small glitches but on the whole the service was very good.
Booked a table inside to attend the beer and gin festival. Ended up staying outside which the staff were totally relaxed out.
Awesome event, great vibe, top live music, good Street Food bbq and an excellent offering of beers and gin.
Enjoyable visit during beer and gin festival so a bit noisy.
Nice tasty food good choices. The staff very helpful and pleasant. Beautiful views across the Sussex country side good out door area. Good choice of Gins!😄
We have visited the Mark Cross many times and it is always very good. They seem to have some new staff who were very nice. My one 'moan' is that I ordered a alcohol free lager with a 'splash' of lemonade. This duly arrived with an inch or so of lemonade in the glass as requested. It was not until I arrived home that I noticed I had been charged £1.20 for the pleasure of this small portion. I could buy 4 litres in Tesco... Our bill including tip was £150 so I think this was a bit excessive...
I had been to the Mark Cross before and always had good experiences but this time I was very disappointed. Firstly we didn’t get offered drinks when we were seated. Then I feel the food has gone down hill, one of my family members had their chips missed and we had to find someone to add them. The food was not what we would usually expect here and afterwards we wanted pudding as was still hungry, so we all ordered. Mine looked very poor as wasn’t as it was described on the menu, and then three of our family were missed out and didn’t get their puddings (one being one of my children), I didn’t think this was right and after most of us finished our pudding the others still hadn’t received theirs. So again I went to find someone and asked for the bill as we weren’t happy. The staff looked shocked and kept asking what table we were on even though I had told them three times. We didn’t get charged for the puddings and service at the end but this didn’t make up for the bad experience as we shouldn’t have to pay for things we didn’t get anyway. This was a quiet Sunday there as not all tables were full so there was no excuse for the bad food or service. They have lost high paying customers in myself and my family as we will not being eating there again. Just so you all know, we were a table of 9 people all together and the bill was £191, even without the service and missing puddings.
The perfect place to meet up with family. Pleasant and friendly service. Good menu choice and delicious food.
We have visited the pub before and like it’s location, menu and the Whiting and Hammond offering being a supporter of many of the Pubs in the chain. Overall we like the relaxed environment and mix of food choices. Our experience last Friday was not to the usual stand with slow service, right from the moment we arrived to be shown to the table, to drinks orders and food service times. It appeared that there were just too few staff on duty. The staff themselves were of good quality and personable but they were under too much pressure.
The waiting staff were great, unfortunately long wait between courses and sadly even though the roast beef was tasty the food was all lukewarm.
Lovely location, the staff are always friendly and the food is usually very good
Had a really nice meal. It was quiet because the football was on but that was also quite nice in a way. Always good food and always good service. Thanks, and hope to make it over again soon.
We have eaten at The Mark Cross Inn on countless occasions. The pub has a lovely garden overlooking a beautiful tract of the Sussex countryside. The staff are always attentive, welcoming and inclusive. The food is always good although, if I have one criticism, it is that the menu could change more regularly and maybe have more specials from time to time. Having said that, the menu is extensive enough that, whether you want a snack or a full blown three course meal, there is something on offer. They do the best cod and chips I have had. We have recommended the place to dozens of people and entertained friends and family there and only once did we have cause for complaint. That was dealt with swiftly and with sincere apologies. I can't commend the Mark Cross Inn and its staff highly enough.
Friends staff and a very varied menu for a Sunday lunchtime. Not overly expensive.
We haven’t been to the Mark Cross Inn for a number of years. We were pleasantly surprised.
The menu was quite extensive, the quality of the food was good and the staff were friendly.
As a booking for only two we were pleased to be seated at a round table for four rather than being crammed onto a smaller table for two. All in all a pleasant evening.
Good but a lot of new staff resulting in shambolic service.
Excellent food. Staff were polite and welcoming.
Pub had a warm friendly atmosphere and was spacious.
Very nice meal in lovely surroundings, can't recommend it enough
Lovely pub with a varied menu. I am vegetarian and my friend gluten and dairy intolerant and we had a good choice of options.
The meat eaters in the party were also very pleased with the menu.
I had the Mexican tortillas - I was a little disappointed that it was served with 3 small tacos instead of the tortilla wraps and the guacamole wasn’t homemade but overall an enjoyable evening and I have booked again for next weekend.
Lovely afternoon but the vegan burger was really bland. Didn't have any sauce or relish with it and it was way to big for the bun.
Great food, reasonably priced. Staff very professional but friendly.
Relaxed environment with excellent menu. Garden excellent, but too cold to eat outside this weekend.
