The Marlborough Tavern
Food is essentially, though not slavishly, English in character and takes advantage of locally sourced produce wherever possible. Its food reputation is matched by their service - always friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and there's an extensive wine list and selection of local ales to choose from. The Marlborough's pub garden is arguably Bath’s finest; a walled courtyard space, that’s perfect for summertime lunching and drinking.
We sat outside as we had extra people in our party that could not be accommodated in our original booking inside, which was fine. The food was excellent with no complaints from anyone. The reason I couldn’t give it 5 stars is that the staff were slow to clear table used by others and the floor under the tables were in need a good sweep covered in cigarette buts and dirt.
Nice friendly staff and great food. We live in Bath and visit regularly. Either for Sunday roast or for a good evening meal.
No service for 10 mins in vein seated and had to go to bar to get served
Bought most expensive if the Aussie Shiraz reds, which v poor
Food was good and it’s s great place do would go back again but need to sort it out - just because it’s s busy Sat is no excuse to be slack
Staff very nice, just run off their feet
Really good service and a beautiful place in a lovely part of town! We had a lovely evening. Food is a bit overpriced, particularly the salt and pepper squid starter. Other than that, I thoroughly recommend!
We rediscovered the Marlborough courtesy of a family lunch on Christmas Day 2018. We’ve been back a few times with friends and it’s very good. Looking forward to our next visit.
Great Sunday roast again and lovely in the sunshine. Bit noisy for my elderly parents but I enjoyed it!
Service was poor, food was good although a bit over priced. Much nicer restaurants are charging the same price for better food.
Was steak nite Rump for 12.50 instead of £18.75. Had it been full price I would have been disappointed as it was rather tough and hard to cut and chewy. Chips were nice though and Malbec for a tenner was lovely.
A wonderful establishment away from the city. Amazing food with a menu catering for everyone. Recommended by a friend and would recommend to others!
Great food, bit pricey but tasty and most excellent service. Really loud when everyone chatting, our older companion missed most of our conversation, such a shame - a problem with lots of places that have been ‘gastro furnished’. I think you need more soft furnishings to absorb the sound. Would make the world of difference. Thank you x
Absolutely delicious roast dinner had on our first night in Bath. Excellent way to start our mini break! Meat was very tender, With lots of vegetables and super Yorkshire pudding. I particularly enjoyed the sides of apricots stuffing and bead sauce with my chicken. Would highly recommend the Cosmopolitan cocktail - tasted superb! Would definitely go back if it wasn’t so far away!
Exceeded our expectations. Well done!
Lovely food, friendly service. Coped with two toddlers admirably
The fish night was very good, and well attended. The food was tasty and the presentation was excellent. The service was great.
The kitchen have an annoying bell which sounds like a loud ring tone of a text alert when food in ready to be served. It’s really not very nice.
Absolutely fantastic, food, service and atmosphere. Can’t wait to go back!
SUNDAY 07/04/19 WAS OUR FOURTH VISIT.
THERE WERE 4 OF US IN OUR PARTY & WE ALL CHOSE FISH & CHIPS FOLLOWED BY LIME CHEESECAKE.
THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT-THE SERVICE WAS IMPECCABLE WE REALLY COULDN'T FAULT ANYTHING.THE STAFF WERE EXTREMELY FRIENDLY & HELPFUL.
WE'LL DEFINITELY BE RETURNING VERY SOON.
Beautiful food, great service. Perfect Sunday lunch. Sticky toffee pudding best I’ve ever had.
Always enjoy going here and it's always so difficult to choose, as everything is so good! I was honoured the chef asked for my recipe for gluten free yorkshire puddings. Was happy to share the love. Will definitely be back.
Real pub with good quality pub food. Attentive and responsive staff for kids and adults alike.
We are frequent diners here. Our visit on Sunday fell short of what we expected. On arrival we discovered the menu was a 'Sunday' menu, which appeared more limited than on our previous visits. The only veggie main had run out already, which was very disappointing as your veggie options are normally excellent. We were offered some grilled aubergine in its place, but it sounded like an ad hoc strategy for coping for vegetarians rather than an established dish. When our mains arrived, two out of the four had cold vegetables. We had waited some time for these dishes and even though the staff offered to re-do the dish, we really just wanted to get on with our meal so ate them cold. Some discount on the bill was offered for these failings, but we would rather have paid our money and enjoyed better food.
Wonderful Sunday lunch, definitely recommend.
We had a Saturday lunch in here, amazing food and drink, with a great ambiance...we had an issue with our order but it was dealt with really well. Great staff, will definitely be there again soon! Thanks!
The burger was not nice. The triple cooked chips were horrible. My fish batter was soft in side. Over all atmosphere was not attentive. Gone down hill. Hare and hounds much better
We went for a mid week lunch, the Tavern was quite quiet, we had reserved a table but on arrival no welcome at all as no member of staff to be seen.
We waited 10 mins at the bar until a member of staff arrived. Would have expected a ‘ sorry guys have you been waiting long” but nothing.
Our food arrived promptly but without the side of vegetables we ordered, we asked for them and got no apology for the non arrival but told they would come soon. We had to cancel them eventually as we had finished our meals.
I did point out an apology might be good as getting quite upset by the service experience so far and then the member of staff did apologise and tried a little harder on the customer care front.
The table beside us had to send their food back as it was cold, and my sticky toffee pudding arrived with a hint of warmth but would have been nicer hot, but by this stage we were just keen to eat and leave sadly.
The food is very tasty and a good menu but really feel as I have in the past that the service/ customer care lets the food side down which is a shame .
I must say the sticky toffee pud was a very lovely pud and would have been awsome if it were hot.
The Toulouse sausages on horseradish mash were also very good.
Come on Marlborough don’t sit on your laurels service is part of the experience can’t just rely on the food.
Very good dinner on a Monday night with great service and wonderful food. Highly recommend.
Been three times now, all very good.
We had a lovely roast on a Sunday afternoon. Great service and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Roast potatoes in particular were excellent. Which is rare in most pubs!
I had fish cakes (a little bland), duck which was very tasty and panacotta with salted caramel popcorn which was deilicious. All in all a good meal although we did find the noise levels difficult to cope with. This would be our only concern when recommending to others.
First course Bhajis, wonderful. Second the duck - it was a bit tough, maybe as a bit undercooked? Disappointing
It was great but the chef forgot the potatoes from our roast, still tasted great
A bit cold by the door, but outstanding food and overall great service. Would highly recommend.
The food I had was not up to the quality you would expect, and that I have had before at the Marlborough. I had duck, needed a steak knife for the meat and stringy veg. Sauce congealed, generally tasteless
Fab food and great atmosphere. I also like the fact that the tables aren't crammed in together. The food was delicious and made a substantial lunch. Thank you
Very enjoyable meal. Friendly staff and pleasant pub. Our food was excellent.
Would always recommend The Marlborough Tavern - fab food and service
Very enjoyable Sunday lunch. Pub quite full even in late afternoon. Food plentiful and well cooked. Not a huge vegetarian selection but very tasty. Great position just a few steps from Royal Crescent with nice views of golf course. Cheerful atmosphere, prices about average for Bath.
We arrived an hour early to enjoy a bottle of wine with the Sunday papers followed by the first course and a requested wait of about half an hour before the main Sunday lunch. All requests were accommodated by charming and helpful staff. The mushroom soup was full of flavour and my fishcakes, though small, were very well spiced. Our roast beef was uniformly pink and tender with fluffy yorkshire puds and plenty of different veggies including about three different types of cabbage! I have not enjoyed a Sunday roast so much for a very long time. We didn't have puddings but with two courses, two bottles of wine and one latte, the bill came to about £110 inc tip. Good value for three hours of relaxation and good food. We will definitely be returning.
Super food. Vegetarian choice a bit limited. Friendly staff. Check that sides, coffee are brought out. Had to ask twice for sides and coffee did not appear. Quality of food excellent.
It's a nice place and food is good but it's really noisy.
Great food and service for our table of 9 even though the restaurant was full.
