The Marlborough Tavern
Food is essentially, though not slavishly, English in character and takes advantage of locally sourced produce wherever possible. Its food reputation is matched by their service - always friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and there's an extensive wine list and selection of local ales to choose from. The Marlborough's pub garden is arguably Bath’s finest; a walled courtyard space, that’s perfect for summertime lunching and drinking.
We were greeted warmly arriving early for our meal on a very wet day. Our food was good, we liked the atmosphere and background music which was quiet enough to make conversation easy, we had an enjoyable evening. Only minuses were the draught of every time the door was opened and the loos which were a bit grubby.
Really lovely pub, great food & dog friendly throughout
Charles Dickens ate here!! Truly lovely ambiance...food was great-get the pudding...might be best dessert ever.
We were really looked after here and, at short notice, they gave us our first Valentine’s meal, serving up Prosecco to begin with.
Food and service was great, highly recommend for lunch or dinner
Had a cosy table for two by the fire. Food was really good, as it always is! Great wine selection and wait staff were attentive but not overbearing. Would highly recommend
It was really easy to book a table online, and someone called to confirm the next morning. Service was excellent throughout. Food was delicious and filling. Could not fault!
Really delicious food (especially the “proper chips”) staff are really friendly and attentive & the place has a lovely cosy feel. Would definitely recommended!
The Marlborough has been a go to for us over the years we have visited Bath and we have never yet been let down by them. This time was with a group for Sunday lunch and they dealt with various food issues patiently as well as juggling numbers twice in advance! Always a pleasure.
Good food, discreet efficient very friendly service, and best of all could have a conversation with my guests.
Lovely pub, lovely food service could be better, location is great
Gorgeous Sunday roast. Food and service was great. We'll definitely be back.
The food was lovely. The only small complaint was that my husband had the roast chicken. The meat he had on his plate was such a small portion. Only comparing to other Sunday roast dinners that we have received. The Yorkshire pudding however was huge so if they can reduce the size of that and put a bit more meat on the plate then that would take the food to an excellent. Thanks
We regularly have family celebrations here and just love it. Sunday lunch is fantastic and the service great. However, on this last visit this Sunday for a 17th birthday treat, all our food (except the non roast choice) was served cold! It was, of course, replaced though inevitably we ended up eating after one of the party had finished. The meal was missing cauli cheese that was billed on the menu, we asked we where this was and the waitress churlishly told us it would be 'underneath' - it wasn't so we again asked for it and this time it was served separately. Two of us ordered cheese following the main course and this came without one of the 3 billed cheeses ... For the most part the staff were great at sorting, particularly our main waitress and the man who sorted out the missing stuff but I have to say it certainly marred the 17th birthday. Teenage kids really find it uncomfortable when their parents 'complaining'.
Excellent meal and service. Very high standard as usual. So good we’ve booked for February.
Delightful attentive staff serving top class fish& chips.
I’ve been coming here for years and have never had a bad experience - the food and service is always great.
Delicious traditional roasts, succulent beef with all the trimmings. I prefer my gravy served separately and I am not a fan of spiced red cabbage with beef - hence my score of 4 rather than 5 stars.
Very nice food and a good atmosphere. The service was friendly and helpful. Would go there again.
Our first visit to the Marlborough. Nice to have good service that isn't intrusive. We all really enjoyed our food and it was very reasonable for Bath. Pleasantly warm, enough space between tables to offer some privacy and no unpleasant noise from sound bouncing off hard surfaces.
Really enjoyed our visit. Food was great and it was really relaxing. The sticky toffee pudding was delicious
As usual, lovely food, great atmosphere and friendly staff.
I reserved for a late Sunday lunch for 4 guests. We were seated right by the front door on a cold and windy day. The food, the service and the atmosphere was average at best. Not recommended - there are so many great Gastropubs in Bath and this is not one of them.
Great food, lovely service. I go and eat at The Tav quite regularly.
I'm never disappointed....The staff do a great job, the chefs cook wonderful food.
Excellent service, lovely relaxed atmosphere and great food. What more could you want!
Excellent food, wine and overall experience
Another visit this time as a treat for my wife on Boxing Day having cooked at Christmas- great food and service, can’t fault them - best gastro pub in Bath that never disappoints!
Such a lovely pub! Very accommodating staff who even gave us a glass of champagne on arrive! Such a treat for Christmas Eve. Great food and lovely seating area for 2.
Had a wonderful Sunday lunch food was lovely and staff excellent especially Jordan can't wait to return next Christmas
Great family get together
Best Sunday lunch I’ve ever had eating out!! The vegetables were delicious and the meat mouthwatering. Yum
Lovely meal with friends! Great food and service and will definitely return
The Sunday lunch for £17 is overpriced taking into account portion and quality of meat. The knives did not cut the meat ....
Wonderful food and a lovely atmosphere on a busy Saturday night. We had to wait for a few minutes for our table and were offered complimentary drinks as an apology. The staff were super efficient and very friendly. We had a lovely evening and will definitely go again when next visiting Bath. Highly recommend this lovely gem!
Service and food were great. Had a lovely evening!
Sunday roast was beautiful! Simply stunning. Went with my family and 4 week old and was perfect!
Love it here, superb as always,
Great service and wonderful food, thanks
My partner and I booked an early Sunday lunch at this pub during our trip to Bath. I'd done some research and heard good things about this pub and its Sunday roast. It exceeded expectations. With a great vegan and veggie option as well as more traditional meat offerings, there was plenty of choice. The service was particularly great - there was a very attentive young man (can only have been about 15 I swear!) seeing to most of the customers, managing people coming through the door, manning the bar and generally being very busy. But he never once looked flustered or got our order wrong/late. The food and drinks were exceptionally good quality and came very promptly. The interior of the pub was festively decorated but nothing too garish. Could not recommend this place more highly. Keep up the great work everyone!
Really lovely friendly staff, we only had the fish and chips and the burger, there were 5 of us, all came at the same time, good size portions and really tasty. About 10 minute from the main markets sonthe streets was quieter and more relaxed
