The Marlborough Tavern
Food is essentially, though not slavishly, English in character and takes advantage of locally sourced produce wherever possible. Its food reputation is matched by their service - always friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and there's an extensive wine list and selection of local ales to choose from. The Marlborough's pub garden is arguably Bath’s finest; a walled courtyard space, that’s perfect for summertime lunching and drinking.
Sunday dinner sirloin, Yorkshire pudding and veg was delicious!
The presence of four dogs at the bar close to the dining tables was not appreciated. Two separate parties brought in two dogs each who proceeded to bark and yap at each other.
In a country pub this is maybe more usual but in a restaurant - as that is really what the Marlborough Tavern is - this rather ruined an otherwise enjoyable evening.
Another great lunch with friends at the Tavern - definitely the best pub in Bath! Food always good quality and like the atmosphere
A cozy gastropub near the Royal Crescent- food was far beyond expectations! My wife had a truly special lamb grill and my autumn vegetable risotto was divine! Drinks were also perfect! 5 stars indeed.
Wonderful Vegetarian roast! Yummy cocktails. Great service!
Lovely pub but food wasn't that inspiring and a bit disappointing. The beef was tough, the swede mash was lumpy and cold, the veg was very hard and not much gravy. Staff were great and decor is fab. We would come back but not for a roast
Relaxed place with delicious food and friendly staff
Lovely atmosphere, very nice service (friendly, polite, professional, timely), delicious food and our beloved dog was made welcome and snoozed happily under the table throughout. Highly recommended.
Food cold, service poor, waiters did not know hiberno set cutlery or serve - reaching across the table and across people. When we complained about cold food no effort was made to rectify it.
It was great
We have been to the Marlborough Tavern probably 8 or 9 times. Our latest visit was disappointing. The menu was not very exciting and seemed to favour more vegetarian options than anything else. We also found the prices of the main dishes very expensive for what they were. We like Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand this was £29 a bottle and Malbec £30 a bottle. All in all will probably give the Marlborough Tavern a miss for a while. It will be interesting to see if their menu will change at all.
Very comfy, friendly staff, excellent food great value. Can’t wait to go back.
Noisy in a good way with atmosphere. Great service and lovely food
Used to be good but unfortunately food very average but with same high prices.
Excellent food, great value. Cannot wait to return
Great food and service.
Always enjoy a meal here every time we visit Bath
Very easy walking distance fro Catharine Place
Delicious Sunday Lunch! Friendly staff, wonderful wine and lovely garden. We'll be back. Thank you, The Marlborough Tavern.
We took our young children for Sunday lunch. Great prompt service, delicious food and really reasonable. Cannot wait to go back.
Lovely meal and great service
Great food great service lovely beer lively atmosphere what’s not to like!
Fabulous authentic British gastro pub - with great food and neighborhood atmosphere
If you want a great place in Bath that is out of the touristy area of town, this is the place. Very nice British pub with great food and atmosphere.
Fantastic evening of quality food- so rare for vegans! Please do this again in the new year! Thank you.
Friendly and very pleasant atmosphere, food excellent
Really friendly staff who are on top of every need, food was just fantastic loved every second being there
Excellent food and very good service. Friendly and helpful.
Attentive and friendly staff, great food and good atmosphere. The fact they’re usually fully booked most evenings says a lot. Highly recommend.
Travelled over 80 miles to stay in Bath for a reunion with former associates. We had dinner there for the first time, having previously enjoyed lunch several times. The place (always) has a great buzz to it and the manager Callum and server Caitlin looked after us very well indeed. We all enjoyed our food, in particular the sirloin that was perfectly cooked. A very good choice of wine also led to a super evening. Thanks to the team there and we hope to see you again soon.
My wife and I have been to the Marlborough Tavern many times in previous years when we have visited Bath. In fact it had been recommended to us by friends who live in the area, and up until now we have thoroughly enjoyed the food and ambience. This time was completely different. I wanted to book a table for 8pm on Sunday evening we were coming with my cousin and his wife to visiting from Canada. But I could only get a reservation for 7.45, which was ok. We were running a few minutes late so I tried to call the pub to let them know. It took five attempts before anyone answered - only to be told I needed to hurry as the kitchen closed at 8pm. We arrived just after 8. The place was practically empty - I had never seen it so quiet. A few of the starters snd mains were off the Sunday menu leaving us with a limited choice. The roast beef was actually a lump of steak. We asked for more gravy and were eventually brought a soup bowl of gravy but no spoon. All in all a throughly disappointing experience with average food and service. I felt embarrassed as I had been telling my relatives how great the Marlborough Tavern was - and quite frankly it was a letdown and I’m not surprised it was empty. We didn’t hang around, and I certainly won’t be going back again.
Very happy to recommend the Marlborough Tavern. It is good food at a reasonable price. However, the noise level is too high.
Overall we had a great experience over 2 days, in fact we booked Sunday lunch there on the strength of our first visit
Excellent food and service as they were very busy, would definitely go back.
Great food, great venue, would certainly recommend and will return again soon I’m sure.
The atmosphere is absolutely lovely in the Marlborough Tavern. I would thoroughly recommend this pub. Just a note though, the menu online was different to the one in the pub which was a little disappointing as the online menu had a dish I really liked the sound of. Having said that the food was good but the sauce on the fish dish was too spicy/hot for me. Atmosphere great!
Unexpected pleasure! Burger was amazing!
Bloody hell, this was good! Probably the best roast I’ve ever had (recommend the lamb). We had a bottle of wine, dessert wine and pudding so it was a bit on the pricey side in the end but such a treat and can’t fault any of it. Can’t wait to go back - thank you!!
Food never disappoints
Service was under par and not aligned to the quality or price point despite being lots of staff around.
One of the best pub dinners I've had!
A favourite for many years, we will be back, but not based on our last meal. Whilst delicious, the service was unusually poor. After waiting over an hour for our starters we were told they were about to be prepared and would be deducted from the final bill. A nice gesture, but our guests from New Zealand not impressed. The mains took ages too. Perhaps our table number was between service areas and fell into a gap? Also, a bit frustrated that the wine we ordered was a final bottle so when we asked for a second we had to change wines. Oh well... I'm sure just an aberration and all previous experiences have been much better.
Consistently good! Friendly team and good food. We will visit again ...
