The Marlborough Tavern
Food is essentially, though not slavishly, English in character and takes advantage of locally sourced produce wherever possible. Its food reputation is matched by their service - always friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and there's an extensive wine list and selection of local ales to choose from. The Marlborough's pub garden is arguably Bath’s finest; a walled courtyard space, that’s perfect for summertime lunching and drinking.
We are regular customers at the Marlborough Tavern and enjoy the high quality menu.
Despite making an online reservation we arrived to be allocated the only remaining table which was poor- a cramped space and a really uncomfortable railing at the height of one’s back which meant neither of us could sit back against the seat. We asked to be moved to another table but were told none was available
Our server asked us for our order but we said we wanted to wait while we decided whether to stay. She then told us she was awaiting our drink order so we had to repeat ourselves. We asked again if we could be moved to another table but were told this was not possible.
We therefore decided to leave - something we have never done in a restaurant we had booked a table at.
I’m very surprised that, as a longstanding customer at the Marlborough Tavern and the Hare & Hounds we were allocated the worst seating in the pub.
It was amazing. The waiters were kind and the food was great. It is a place for nice families.
Such a friendly waiter and wonderful food! We loved the curry and risotto. Would definitely recommend to anyone! Chocolate brownie was above average but not the best - but still very very happy overall!
Surprisingly quiet (a Monday lunch time), but really good food and great service, as usual!
It was early Friday evening so as to be expected there were families enjoying a nice time, a little noisy, but they did settle. Our starter, scallops was absolutely superb. Our steak was perhaps a little dry for medium, chips great. Service excellent! Thank you
Friday lunch, outside in the patio garden. Some road noise but not too much. Cider was lovely, food very good and friendly staff. Good city pub, will definitely come back.
The food was really good and we enjoyed the friendly and efficient service. The ambience is actually OK but the noise level is very echoey - they can't do much about that though. I would also recommend the Sunday Lunches here - excellent.
Perfect service and amazing food as always. Definitely recommend.
Excellent food and very good, friendly service. Has been one of our favourite Bath restaurants for a number of years. Is successfully maintaining a high standard over the years. Well done.
Delicious food as ever, had the fish and chips as always yummy and partner had the burger as I recommend it to him.
Good service even when pub was v busy.
Enjoyable time 😊
Superior gastro pub dining in a pleasant environment with attentive staff. Have enjoyed pub staples, Sunday roasts and their tasting menu. All very good. Great to have a neighbourhood local with such a high standard of fare.
Average restaurant, good food, but nothing special. One hour waiting because a group pre ordered their food. We were three and no way to find a solution. Desserts were not available as we required.
Very good food and great service. Good beer garden to have a drink in beforehand.
We had a lovely Sunday Roast, we tried one with chicken and one with beef, and both were delicious.
The Yorkshire pudding is also very good and the vegetables.
Fish and chips and Salt and pepper squid - delicious! Orders taken and food delivered with a smile Thankyou
A tad overpriced for some dishes. This is a pub after all, albeit a lovely pub with above average food. But a pub...
The staff were really attentive and friendly. I was impressed that there were two vegetarian options on the Sunday lunch menu. I had the wellington which was tasty. However, the roast potatoes and vegetables were a little undercooked and under seasoned.
Friendly attentive staff, Sunday roast was really delicious. One of my firm favourites.
Food was exceptional thankfully chef saved the day. Service was non existent- we had to ask to order , wrong wine came out - followed by the waitress forgot to open the correct wine and we had to keep chasing every time we wanted to add to our food for the evening. Understandable that there was the Pub in the Park festival running but guys don’t lose sight of your core customers!
We ordered 2 glasses of large wine but were told they only had small glasses so not a good start. One of the meals was not very hot, in fact parts were cold. Fish didn't taste very fresh, possibly frozen. The service was good and the staff very friendly and helpful but we won't be visiting their again to eat. Over priced for standard of food. Disappointing as really nice venue and great position near the Royal Cresent.
This was listed in a top 10 review for Sunday Roasts. I had high hopes. But sadly I knew that when our roast dinners arrived ever so quickly after ordering that was a bad sign. My beef roast was average with a small portion that was quite fatty. The veg and potatoes were not hot...they tasted as if they had been sitting all day. In particular the potatoes were cold and the skins were chewy like they were old. My mums lamb was ok but same for her veg and potatoes. All in all average at best and over priced for what we got. It was more like a buffet meal than a nice Sunday roast. Would not return.
An amazing dog friendly restaurant, a lovely ambience and the food was incredible!
My had the Sunday dinner here and the food was fantastic
Our waiter was exceptional but prior to getting to this point the other staff were a little cold but fine in general
The food is what we came for and it was exceptional
Had a nice evening in pleasant surroundings. Staff friendly and attentive. Menu choice very limited but what we had was well prepared. Vegetarian options not very inspiring and goats cheese starter very small. Otherwise a good experience.
There were plenty of vegan options and the waitress was very helpful in identifying which options were OK for me to eat.
Food was really nice, really creative combinations, nice atmosphere, great service but slightly expensive
Lovely quite restaurant, tucked away. Very clean and homely inside. Great atmosphere, quiet and romantic. Lovely food, changes with the season so always something different. Great little find
Sunday lunch was great. Service poor and very noisy overall.
One of the very best Sunday lunches in the area - the food is hot, the beef pink and the veg cooked perfectly.
Great little spot in a quiet corner of Bath - delicious pub food and cosy atmosphere. Highly recommend!
The food was absolutely amazing , a bit pricey, but we were aware of that. The service felt a little bit staged, however the overall experience was excellent.
Lovely pub with great food! We brought our two dogs along and had a great Sunday lunch.
Busy neighbourhood gastropub with reasonable food great atmosphere
Welcoming staff, great dining experience with excellent food and lovely atmosphere. Would recommend to everyone
I am a regular here and the food never fails to disappoint! Had a great steak, my friend a lovely duck. Had a recent change of staff and busy as always, so service bit slow but fine. Atmosphere great for eating and people clearly enjoying the evening. You need to book!
Wonderful pet-friendly atmosphere. Food was very good and staff were excellent (especially Ben!)
Sunday lunch. Hungry so ordered an extra mixed vegetable portion at £4. Very disappointed to be given a very small bowl of just cabbage. Mentioned it to the waitress and to waiter clearing the table when they asked if we’d enjoyed the meal. Neither passed on. Decided not to take it further as had guests with us and didn’t want it overshadowing the lunch further. Rest of meal very good.
We regularly visit the pub usually on sundays and we have always a great experience. The best sunday roast in the area!
Best peppercorn sauce I have ever had in my life! They were very friendly to our dog and it was a lovely experience all round. Very much recommend.
We sat outside as we had extra people in our party that could not be accommodated in our original booking inside, which was fine. The food was excellent with no complaints from anyone. The reason I couldn’t give it 5 stars is that the staff were slow to clear table used by others and the floor under the tables were in need a good sweep covered in cigarette buts and dirt.
