The Marlborough Tavern
Food is essentially, though not slavishly, English in character and takes advantage of locally sourced produce wherever possible. Its food reputation is matched by their service - always friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and there's an extensive wine list and selection of local ales to choose from. The Marlborough's pub garden is arguably Bath’s finest; a walled courtyard space, that’s perfect for summertime lunching and drinking.

Most of our meal was deep fat fried and not very nice.
Booked on-line for a wedding anniversary. Expected it to be quiet as a Monday lunchtime, but was almost deserted inside (a few people outside). Staff didn't refer to the booking being for a wedding anniversary (had put this on the booking comments, so expected a passing comment at least). Table service was ok, nothing special. Unfortunately the food was disappointing compared to previous visits, ingredients were good - just not done very well, and overpriced because of this. I hope this was a one-off and the team will do better next time.
Would go in for a drink before eating there again.
Fantastic roast, great service and lovely atmosphere. Thank you!
We chose this restaurant as it was dog friendly but the humans were all extremely impressed. The menu had so many delicious options and we were all delighted with our choices.

Food definitely Michelin Guide standard. Lovely relaxed unfussy atmosphere. Dog friendly (we only saw 3 well behaved ones.)
Not overpriced. Very good service. Clean and attractive. Well spaced seating with lighted garden also. Large wine selection. 9/10
Absolutely fantastic meal - really recommend visiting Marlborough Tavern. Make sure you try the squid starter too - best squid we’ve had in a long time. Really grateful for non-alcoholic cocktail options that aren’t just juice too!
The menu was a little narrow so we'd expect a specials board but there wasn't one. My partner loves fish and there was only fried fish 'n' chips or one grilled option. That all said the food was tasty and cooked well (I had steak, rare).
Prompt service, good pub menu, would definitely go back again.
Sunday lunch was decent but not worth the money. 2 slices of beef and some veg but no mash. Just puree sweet potato.
We have dined fairly often at the Marlborough Tavern but have not managed a visit since they reopened after refurbishment. This lovely pub looks fresh and smart but has not lost its character. We thought that the cooking (always good) had gone up another notch. Excellent starters of cauliflower pakora and terrine. The roasts (pork, chicken and beef were sampled) were first rate, delicious accompaniments and superior gravy. The Yorkshires were 10/10 and we have sampled many. Divine sticky toffee pudding. The only blemish was the vegan version of lemon posset which didn’t work for me. I hope the traditional lemon posset might reappear on the menu one day soon. Prompt and friendly service and excellent wines by the glass/ bottle. Can’t wait to return.
There were 7 of us and we all raved about the food. Everything was outstanding - even the chips and dressing on the salad. Good, friendly service too. My only issue with the evening was that it was quite noisy and hard to chat with everyone around the table. It would be better with a smaller group.
We’ve eaten at a lot of places over the past week whilst travelling around the UK and so far this has been the best overall! The food was incredible and the service was amazing! The waitress was so on the ball, the second a glass was empty she was straight over to take the order. We have a 5 month old working cocker spaniel and his needs were thoroughly catered for. Cannot recommend highly enough! We will be back!
Great food, lovely atmosphere, and the children’s portions were particularly generous.
Delicious food in a great location with excellent service - thank you! Highly recommended.
There was 3 people and we shared a meat board for a starter and the selection of meats were so tasty and there was something for everyobe, we then ordered lamb chops, beef steak and sea bream for mains, and the food was fresh hot and delicious when it arrived. There was no waiting in between courses the service was excellent from all the staff who were friendly, accommodating and polite so overall very happy and would come again on my next visit to Bath.
A fab pub off the beaten track that I definitely recommend - just minutes from the centre. Lovely interiors & great outside terrace. The food was simply stunning - best Sirloin Steak in a long time. Great atmosphere & very friendly & attentive staff. Thank you all !
Been here many times but never for Sunday Roast . It tasted just like home cooking . Superb .
Lovely Sunday roast, even at 7pm was still fresh and they hadn’t run out of anything which I love. Service was a little slow at times but they were very busy.
Excellent roast dinner and good sized portions. Friendly service and value for money.
service was poor (which they did acknowledge) but staff charming!
food nice, but not as good as was expecting! butcombe beer and
Great roast, will 100% be coming back. The staff were really friendly and welcoming.
Lovely Sunday lunch. Two of us had the chicken and two of us had the pork belly. Would have liked to have seen a bigger helping of veg, but overall the food was hot, tasty and very nice. Fabulous chocolate brownie for pudding. I think we were on a time limit for the table but didn't feel we were rushed. Would come back again!
Delicious food good value excellent choice of real ales & the staff were excellent
We really enjoyed our meal. Food and service was wonderful.
We had a selection of starters to share. 3 prawns arrived. There were two of us. Would happily have paid extra for 4.
Otherwise amazing, though a little quiet. It was a Tuesday lunch though.
Slow service, overpriced, took over an hour to get main courses and bugs everywhere.
Very good, prompt service! Fantastic food and a lovely atmosphere, which was helped with Dogs being allowed inside 🐶
An outstanding Sunday roast with friendly and attentive service in a lovely setting.
Great food just around the corner from Royal Crescent. We visited on a Sunday and had the roast beef dinner which was delicious. Booking is essential as it was busy!
Friendly, knowledgeable staff.
Lovely food, fab garden.
Food was excellent and service was quite good. General noise level was not good.
Great service from friendly and attentive staff. The food was delicious and the wine list was extensive which is great.
Have always enjoyed the Marlborough. Interesting dishes and the usual favourites. Service was good although you still can’t go to the bar yourself. I hope that will come back soon . Hale dish was scrummy. Pudding menu a bit predictable.
Good atmosphere inside and out.
Everything was incredible! Food, ambience, and service 10/10
We’ll presented tasty, good food and very good service
Efficient service from friendly staff. Good menu and excellent food and drinks.
We met at 1.15 and I left at 3.15 and the pudding arrived at 3.0. Very slow service!
Lovely pub with a nice atmosphere. Drinks were well made and the service was ok.
It took quite a while for our food to arrive which was a little frustrating as we had our children with us. They forgot parts of our drinks order and whilst we arrived early for our booking and they told us our table wasn’t ready, the table we eventually ate at had been empty before we sat down at it for a while, this was frustrating as we had our hungry kids with us.
We had ordered a plain burger for one of our kids and whilst the waitress had taken the order correctly, the kitchen didn’t follow our requests. This meant that our youngest didn’t eat it. They offered to cook another burger but we’d waited a while for the first one so didn’t want to risk another long wait.
Our adult food was ok; steak and chips. Chips were just about cooked and not plentiful.
The waitress took off our sons burger from the bill that was a kind gesture but for a pub with rave reviews we did come away disappointed.
The staff were lovely, the place is lovely and clean.
We ordered our food and drinks at
7-45, the drinks arrived promptly the starter came 15 minutes later we ate this and then nothing, we waited and waited and at 8-45 I had to ask where the rest of our meal was it turned up at our table 9
This isn’t good enough,we wasn’t the only ones who asked. The young man who came to speak to us was apologetic and said they had been doing the outside covers, it’s not the sort of service I expected when the place had been recommended to us .
We didn’t really enjoy it as we’d had to wait so long .
