The Marsh Tavern @ Equinox
We were very disappointed. We have dined here various times over the past 15 years and our latest experience on 10/12/19 was horrible. The restaurant appeared to be seriously over-booked and the kitchen was missing in all aspects. We waited over an hour between appetizers waiting for our meals, staff made excuse after excuse as to why our meals were not coming out. The table next to us were seated about 30 minutes after us and when their meals were delivered before ours, we were done !
I am not one of those intolerant people, but I can’t even think of when we last got up and walked out of a restaurant, but that is exactly what happened at Marsh Tavern. Sad !
Great. Food was very good and waitress was extremely helpful. Drinks were excellent but very pricey.
Hostess was totally horrendous! Made people wait for no reason.
weve had lunch here many times and good but dinner was disappointing. while cocktails were good the entrees were small and not worthy of the price. very little lobster in my lobster fettuccini.
Perfect pub food and abound with history at fabulous Equinox Resort
Ordered a wage steak for $40.00
It was full of gristle, very small piece.
People very nice and the service was excellent but the food was very disappointing. Wife had the chicken pot pie. Instead of a crust or pastry cover like in a traditional one, this had the top half of a biscuit that maybe covered one fourth of the bowl. The burnt looking and tasting bottom half of the biscuit was hidden in the bottom of the bowl. The gravy was pretty much tasteless. I had the shepherd's pie. That lacked flavor also. The characteristic flavor of this dish is the worcestershire sauce flavored gravy. I would have to say none was used because none was detected - bland also. The most enjoyable parts of the experience were chatting with the hostess, extremely courteous and professional servers and the atmosphere of sitting outside at a table on a covered porch on a weather perfect evening.
Service was amazing, food was better! Loved every moment.
The service was very bad. It took the first server over 15 minutes to stop by the table and then 5 minutes later we actually had another server show up and when we told him someone came by he said they were taking money out of his pocket. The experience did not improve from that point on. Make a different choice.
Friendly service and good food!
Exceptionally poor lighting for the handicapped entrance. Pretty; but treacherous for someone with mobility challenges.
We had the Tavern Fare which was pretty good. The salads were fine, the only suggestion being that the Kale Salad which we had was swimming in dressing - a subtler flavor would have been much better. Strawberry Salad and the Squash Blossoms were very good. We had the Sheperd’s Pie and Chicken Pot Pie for entrees, neither of which came we’re served hot - just a bitter hotter than lukewarm. We sent them back to be heated up. They were still not quite hot enough when reserved but we plowed in. The Shepherds Pie was over spiced, needs to be subtler. The Chicken Pot Pie had a bit of a Camry taste. But, all in all, pretty good and I’d go back and try some other selections next time.
Our waitress, Sharon Green, was outstanding.
Ate outside - partner had salmon with beets - she was very happy. I had chix pot pie - filling was excellent - biscuit took place of pastry crust - different but very good.
Part of the Equinox resort which is our favorite vacation place. Marsh Tavern serves a modest traditional menu which allows them to do each dish very well. From Meatloaf to an excellent lobster and pasta dish, you can’t go wrong in this restaurant. We’ve been visiting for over 15 years and eat here every visit.
The Marsh Tavern is mediocre. My salmon tasted like supermarket fish -pretty tasteless -though the beets surrounding it were good. My husband’s pasta was clumped and served with very little lobster. The service was so fast that I had to tell the server to take away the appetizer platter because they had set down a bread platter less than a minute earlier. And it was all very expensive. We also had breakfast at The Equinox and it too was mediocre and overpriced.
Every dish was great. The Sheppard’s pie was a special discovery. The staff are fantastic- professional but also so personable. We really enjoyed our meal and look forward to trying more of the menu!
Superior bread sélection. Special attention to local produits. Very attentive maitre d’.
Awful! Overpriced! Staff ignorant. Getting by on name alone. Go Anywhere else!
Food was good for a hotel restaurant - we had to wait over an hour for it though
Always charming elegant atmosphere and great food!
Excellent food, enjoyed dining on front porch in the early evening.
A perfect night.
Dinner was great the food the staff all perfect.
It is a family favorite
Outstanding service, creative and delicious food beautifully presented. Located in the impressive Equinox hotel, you are literally surrounded by history. Our only negative is that the portions don’t justify the prices.
Was a lovely visit for dinner. My only suggestion to the restaurant is to have more options for rose' that aren't grossly overpriced. Only 1 option by the glass for $18, which there are many rose's I love that bottle price is less than that. Your guests might mostly come from NY but we know when we feel ripped off.
Our family enjoyed a lovely afternoon together in this beautiful Tavern. We enjoyed creative drinks, delicious 3 course meals, well paired wine, friendly service - all excellent !
This was my first time visiting the Equinox. The Equinox has a reputation that preceeds them so was excited to have my first visit with my mom and daughter for a Pre Mother's Day lunch. While the food was palatable it wasnt anything extraordinary given the price. The service was mediocre at best, our waitress didn't have much if a personality so interaction was nonexistent. Food took a while to come out even though it wasnt super busy. I also noticed the rug could have used a good vacuuming and this is something i noticed throughout the hotel property as a whole. Overall I was unimpressed and don't plan on returning in the future.
Ordered Caesar Salad w/Shrimp. They must have run out of Romaine??? MAYBE a handful of greens...shrimp where tasty but TINY???
Don't mind the $21 cost if it is a proper salad but I promise you any fast food chain gives a better portion?? Tasted great...homemade dressing but 'WHERE IS THE ROMAINE?
I left HUNGRY??
(The silyl box of silly bread/tiny muffins is...SILLY!)
Service was fine but VERY disppointed in that salad. Jeeze if you can't make a proper caesar I would give up. I have a country home locally so we are always looking for places to go...tooooo bad!
Dinner with my family was great! Our server Kim made the experience with the suggestion of the Veal \ and helping my children. Kim is a true professional
All I can say is WOW! There were four of us ladies away on a girls weekend. Every detail from start to finish was perfect. The food, from appetizers, main course and dessert was so delicious. We had Kim as a server and she went above and beyond the entire night to accommodate anything we asked for. She even went as far to make our special drink request herself, in the bar. The night was definitely one we will remember and if we are in the area again we will definitely make sure to come again.
We went for a nice dinner while on a fairly restrictive diet. Chris was our waiter and he went above and beyond to bend the menu to our needs coming back frequently to ensure we were ok. The food was amazing but the service was absolutely stellar!
The food was poorly prepared and served by a staff of amateurs. I ordered a pork chop which was served with a butter knife , the broccoli was raw. The table next to us ordered macaroni with butter for their daughter and it came out with tomato sauce. The Equinox is a beautiful resort in a beautiful location with the worst management I’ve ever seen. A good restaurant is a place where the food and service makes you feel just a bit pampered where attention to detail is so important Marsh Tavern does not hit the mark.
Pretty setting, wonderful cocktails, and delicious food. Crab cakes were paired with a corn salad which was a wonderful accompaniment and there was refreshing citrus in the kale salad. Ended the night with home made ice cream and espresso.
We were wonderfully sat by the fireplace which was perfect and cozy
Second visit proved that service timing issues weren't a fluke. I've had dinner twice in the past 6 weeks at the Marsh Tavern and I like the menu and the food is very good. However, there is a kitchen process or timing issue that results in the food taking too long to come out and sometimes cool. Appetizers, salads and drinks come out fairly quickly, but entrees take way too long. Worse, on my first visit one dinner in our party of 8 came out about 20 minutes after the others (pretty sure it was forgotten). The others at the table were almost done eating by the time the dinner arrived. The clearly inexperienced waitress should've immediately told us that the dinner would be free, but instead we had to ask when the bill arrived.
The second visit had both dinners arrive together, but one was cool. The reheat took about 15 minutes, again resulting in one person being done eating when the other meal arrived. This time the waitress was good and apologized for how long it takes food to come out of the kitchen and commented "I wish I could go back there and cook sometimes!"
There is much to like about the Marsh Tavern but we won't be back til we hear that they have gotten their kitchen timing improved.
It was Valentine’s Day, very special. Every lady received a rose. Dinner delicious. Accommodated gluten free diet.
excellent noodle & wagu beef special
Only complaint a bit noisy due to large parties with children. Well behaved, but lots of people
We rush to get to the equinox in time to have dinner at the marsh Tavern. It is a nice beginning to a stay in Vermont. Probably ambience and the food is quite good. Love seeing the same wait staff there year after year.
Rude host set a horrible tone for the dinner, whole experience was ruined from it.
The Marsh tavern as well as the Equinox has recently been refurbished. While this works for most of the hotel the choices made for the Marsh Tavern, a pre-revolutionary War, pub and chop house are inexplicable. They could have gone with a Willimasburg colonial theme or something cluby and cozy. Instead they chose a zebra carpet that clashes with any logical thematic conception. The biggest change though is the extremely expensive prices on the menu. While you can still get a burger or grilled cheese (very yummy) most of the choices are at the very high end of price. A simple glass of wine is 16 and above with some as high as 24.00!! Also, there isn't a decent Chardonnay by the glass. Bottles are marked up to 3 to 4 times and at least two choices were 25.00 more than at the restaurant down the road.
Children roam and yell throughout the pub. At these prices staff should be able to do something about that, (I understand the parents are really responsible, but a nudge in the right direction can't hurt). Our server was lovely and came to our rescue when the original waitress simply disappeared. We alwyas go to the Marsh when we first arrive as we don't want to drive again at the end of a long trip, but may have to rethink this.
A pleasant night.
