The Maynard Arms
Great family Father’s Day lunch. Sunday roast was outstanding. Service attentive, would highly recommend.
Previously I had a really good evening meal there (fish and chips was fabulous), so i thought I would bring the family and have a sunday lunch there. The food was ok, however the roast beef for the price of £17.50... could be alot better. Beef wasn't medium rare, roast potatoes - roasted to the point of too crispy... yes it can been too crispy... although not the worst i had, it wasn't something i would say i would come back for, especially for that price. Also rhubarb and trifle was not that good either. Sounded better than it actually was. Shame as i thought it would be alot better than that.
I organised a family meal after having an amazing experience and food a couple of months ago in the Maynard. This time round it was the opposite to what I experienced. The food was very salty and there was not as much on the plate as there was before. The food was of poorer quality. Myself and my family experienced a bad belly that evening and the day after. 2 of us couldn’t go to work due to it. I will not be recommending the Maynard to anyone again.
Great for a Sunday roast, good value and excellent food
The staff were brilliant as always but the chef has definitely changed recently; the roast was noticeably different. The Maynard Sunday roasts were our absolute favourite but this was off the mark. I hate saying bad things - the staff are brilliant - the food just wasn’t as good
Delicious wine and food. Absolutely glorious atmosphere in the garden, under the shade of a tree.
It was very busy which compromised service.
Staff were friendly and helpful but service was very slow. It was New Year’s Eve so you have to make allowances for that but even so it wasn’t a full restaurant.
Starter of whitebait was not of a high quality and the sirloin steak was quite small for the price so value for money was not the best.
We visited previously at Easter and the food and service was much better so perhaps this was a one off.
Main issues were slow service and poor quality of food in terms of value.
Staff were very friendly and helpful and did their best.
Got our order wrong.. Desserts left on the side for 15 minutes... Didnt realise they were our ans so they were cold when they arrived.
best in the area! very tasty sunday roast and extremely kind and thoughtful staff.
Having been to The Maynard Arms a couple of times before and enjoyed the food I was disappointed this recent time.
We were a party of three wanting to have lunch and few drinks. Beer and wine choices were all good. The food however was really disappointing. We chose to have the small plates to share. The crab cakes were really bitter and inedible, Whitebait was drowned in paprika so too strong. The other dishes to be honest were just bland, apart from the beetroot dip which was lovely. Some of the other dishes are overpriced, a camembert for two to share is over £13 ! Also.we saw the fish and chips being served, the fish was a either overcooked or cooked in dirty oil as completely brown.
Staff were friendly and helpful. However there were lots of children running around which wasn't the best vibe.
By later in the afternoon the atmosphere was much better. We did have a good time but not sure if I'd rush back.
I'm not grumpy but the whole restaurant was full of children who where running around. The food was very average. It's good for a drink in the bar though.
Chicken seemed underdone and slightly pinkish. Bacon hard and chewy. Not impressed with the food tho' I like sitting in the garden.
The food was lovely although there were some items missing from the roast dinner that we ordered. When the bill came we noticed that there had been additional items added to our bill which we nearly paid for, it was lucky that we noticed last minute before paying and asked to have them removed.
The place is nice though and the food was lovely, I would put our experience down to the staff negligence on the day.
Went for a father's day dinner and had some delicious croquettes followed by an excellent steak. The people working there were very friendly and accommodating. Most importantly, my dad absolutely loved it.
Maynard's Arms is a lovely pub in Crouch End. It's more pricey than the other pubs in the neighborhood, but it is a nice space and the quality of food is excellent. It'd be good to see a better variety of veggie options.
Love The Maynard. Great local pub, with good atmosphere, food and drinks. We come here a lot and always enjoy it. Particularly like the Saturday nights with DJ Cali. Brilliant!
Great sunday roast!
Great place! The staff are awesome and accommodating. Highly recommend!
The roast was fabulous and the serving sizes of all meals for the table of 3 were generous. Service was quick and friendly.
As eight friends and I met for lunch, I worried at first about meeting all their varied foodie needs. I had little cause for my worry, we were in the right place...The Maynard. Generous, delicious portions of food, good selection of seasonal dishes and puddings to die for!
Thank you for helping old friends feel warmly welcomed and well fed!
Good food. Good vibe.
So disappointed with the Sunday lunch. Waited for over an hour for our main after actually a really good starter, but then things were cold and both under and over cooked (raw carrots, bone dry potatoes). Won’t be going again. Really sad as it’s our local! Staff were absolutely lovely.
Sunday lunch. Food good but some luke warm and had to be sent back. Service bit hit and miss as became very busy. Good value.
The portions were meagre especially the fish and the roast potatoes, which is strange because they are literally as cheap as chips, and the chips were under cooked. The roast chicken had probably been left to stand since lunch (we were there at 7pm) because it was dry. If your going to serve left-overs in the evening charge accordingly.
We had a lovely roast pork dinner on Mother's day with a side of cheese cauliflower, everything was cooked great.Sticky toffee pudding was recommended by will our waiter and it didn't disappoint and the roasted pineapple with rum cake was just as good
Service is very good, and all staff are friendly.
Love this place. Great beer selection and friendly, attentive service.
Good value Sunday lunch, although some roast not available when we arrived after 6pm. Recommended.
Great food... Sunday roast best in the area by crouch end mile......Chicken was amazing. Crab stater to die for best brownie in town I will be back
Thank you Maynard Arms team for a wonderful New Year's Eve! We had a perfect evening, our table location was ideal, the food and drink delish, staff SO friendly and helpful - they really could not have done better - music choices perfect for a mixed ages crowd, atmosphere so happy! We ate, drank, danced; absolutely loved the evening!
We'll be back for quieter evenings, Sunday lunches, our usual drinks get togethers during 2018.
Menu looked good, but proved over ambitious. Portions small, food no more than mediocre and poor value for money.
It was a snowy Monday so quiet which suited well for a catch up lunch. Pleasant service and food was good value. First time eaten there and would go back.
Great service even though the fish wasn't great the staff were very apologetic. My burger was amazing, so even though the fish was just a little bit soggy because of the service and friendliness of the staff I would definitely go back again.
This is a nice pub with a good dining area but in this occasion I didn't have a great lunch.
We ordered a main course when it wasn't that busy and waited nearly an hour for it. When it came the beef was cold and the rest of the food tasted like it had been cooked a while ago and then reheated. We asked for the beef to be warmed and when it came back the plate was hot but the beef still cool.
We were offered a free pudding. I ordered the cheese and the soft cheese had just come out of the fridge and was rock hard. I may sound fussy but if you are going to have a selection of cheeses you need to serve them properly.
Our waitress was very apologetic This was more an issue of the kitchen.
Sunday lunch with family and friends - great Sunday roasts. Nice puddings. Was a bit "busy" near the serving area and passageway where we were seated.
I was disappointed with the service and food at the Maynard on this occasion. I frequent this venue constantly and always enjoy my time there. The food is usually amazing. Unfortunately this time the service was shocking in the restaurant, to the point where we had to go up to the bar to buy drinks. The food took almost 30 minutes to come out and was far smaller in portion size than other times I've had roast there. Overall it turn us off coming here for roast in the future.
Small quantities and high prices. Corn fed chicken fillet with Lentils and Toulon sausage is really bangers and beans with a silver of chicken thigh. Dull flavours too
We were told that there would be a half hour wait for food. The Sunday roast was very nice but we waited for an hour for our food, this was a little disappointing.
Lovely food, good options both sunday roasts and normal food including burgers, 4 kids under 5 were welcomed and children's menu provided. Booked for 11 of us the night before and were well accommodated.
The two roasts we had were lukewarm and tasted frozen/reheated. It was barely edible. The bill came out wrong and had to be corrected twice. I would recommend for drinks but not Sunday lunch.
