The Maytime Inn
Whether you are looking for a quick drink, snack or three course meal we can accommodate your needs. Our food is freshly made by our award winning Head Chef using seasonal local produce. In winter you can eat by the wood fire in our rustic restaurant and in summer take advantage of our award winning garden and eat outside on the comfortable wooden furniture enjoying the views with one of our 140+ gins served from our outdoor bar.
Great pub with a really good atmosphere, lovely fresh food and friendly service.
Really pleased with our dining experience. Staff were friendly and welcoming, and food was outstanding. Perhaps a little wait for food. But overall a great experience. Will definitely return.
Very good food, especially the shin of beef. Staff very friendly
Lovely country pub, very friendly staff, good service and excellent food. Would like to go back to try the gin tasting.
First visit: wedding anniversary. Asked for flower bouquet at on-line booking and this was waiting on the table. Ambiance was superb. Great staff. Great food. No faults. Will be going again.... and... the 16th cent setting is marvellous.
New Years Day
We booked a table for 6 adults at this pub for a news years eve meal & celebration afterwards.
The pub itself is beautiful & very tastfully decorated, the ambience is delightful & very comfortable to spend an evening, the staff were professional, polite & generally attentive although a comment we made about the food wasn't addressed!
I would give our experience 5 stars apart from two elements which need improvement from our group viewpoint, the first is the poor range of ales on offer & some staple spirits not available like Bacaradi, the second is more important & to do with the quantity of food which were very small portions.
We all had 3 courses, the quality of food was generally very good (I had the pear & blue cheese salad which was excellent & the fish bouillabaisse (which was OK but only 2 mussels, & 3 small pieces of fish served with sauce separately in a small jug which didn't taste anything special!) followed by a very small cheese board!
I'm all for smaller portions of higher quality food but I am not a big eater & when I'm still hungry after 3 courses something is not right!
So Maytime Inn, you are doing most things right but my advice would be to seriously think about getting some better local ales on the pumps & serve up some larger portions as I'm sure many people leave still feeling hungry!
Excellent service and food on New Year’s Eve. No complaints whatsoever!
A lovely pre Christmas lunch. The food was delicious as was the wine. Service was lovely and very courteous. Will definitely be back. Thank you.
This isn't the first time I have taken lunch at the Maytime. Indeed, it used to be my "local", though it wasn't then as good as you will find it today. A really cosy dining room, looking out to the fine garden, or what might be called Swinbrook High Street, though it isn't a high street at all but another gorgeous Cotswolds lane.
The food is unquestionably better than I can remember it, and for what is primarily a pub one can have no complaints. However, my sirloin steak, asked for medium rare, was medium to well-done, and what is more simple for a kitchen to produce than a grilled steak? The salad that came with it was very good. I have a feeling, according to my lunch partner, that the fish is a better bet here than the meat, but perhaps I should have just been more adventurous and not ordered the steak.
For all this, I would return to the Maytime and order something a little more testing for the kitchen, to see how they would cope with that. I enjoyed the quietness of the dining room (it makes such a change in a pub-diner), and its attractiveness. The wine was very good indeed (Classico Chianti), and the selection of cheeses was as good as I have been offered in far more expensive and elite restaurants.
Give it a try and see if you agree. Places such as The Maytime Inn should be patronised and encouraged, even if my meal could have been better.
2nd time we've had Sunday lunch at the Maytime and will definitely come back again.
The bar staff are welcoming and as a lover of gin - recommended various choices and mixers. The table waitresses/waiters are really friendly and looked after us really well.
The food is sublime - best cooked vegetables that you genuinely want to finish - fresh and lush. Their pork comes with the best crackling - so bad but so good!
If you've not been give it a go - you will not be disappointed.
Amazing food, amazing roast.
Have already rebooked twice over Christmas!
Delightful gastro pub that is tucked away just a few miles south of Burford. Deceptively large inside with a collection of small dining areas and cosy corners. Imaginative, but honest menu with a great selection for all tastes. We shall be returning very soon
Lovely menu and the dishes we chose were both really good. Excellent Gluten free choices available,
We have been to the Maytime on numerous occasions and love it - lovely atmosphere, great service, delicious food and seasonal vegetables and game. It is a dog friendly pub in a beautiful village setting. However, this is the first time we have been there on a Sunday and would highly recommend that they put aside one area for families with small children as the noise from two screaming little ones all but ruined our meal. It was very, very noisy and whilst I am all for taking children out to eat, this was seriously intrusive! A real shame when the food and service were faultless.
staff were very friendly and drive was good. The menu has a lot of choice with a number of sharing platters. The food was good and it is a nice place for lunch. In the summer they have a great garden with nice views.
Some unusual dishes such as a chicken pie as a starter. Food was superb. Totally delicious. Three courses for £24.95 and food of this standard is very good value indeed.
Starter of wild boar balls was very peppery so a little spicy, but might have been personal taste - we did tell the waitress. Always great roast on Sunday, good value and good quality. Car Park was once again completely full so had to park up the road - not an issue just feel sorry for the residents in the village.
Overall the dining experience was OK but with two vegetarians in the group we were very disappointed to find there was no option for a Sunday roast. A risotto is a very boring option and is not a fair substitute for a roast, perhaps you could consider adding a wellington or a nut roast to your menu to make us vegetarians feel a bit more wanted!!
Nice setting with a good selection of delicious dishes.
Lovely meal as alwsys
As it was Monday in November the Inn was quiet. The menu was interesting and different. We were well looked after. The portion size was generous but we did enjoy ourselves.
Gorgeous pub, friendly and helpful staff and some really lovely food. Had Sunday lunch which was excellent - lots of freshly cooked veg - I had the pork, husband had the chicken and both delicious.
Have 140 gins to choose from including some homemade choices - had an orange one which they recommended with ginger beer - perfect!
Definitely coming back - highly recommend.
Good location with ample parking.
Good choices on the menu, and obviously freshly cooked. Very pleasant staff who were very helpful and friendly
Amazing Sunday lunch. A great find out of the hustle and bustle of the Cotswolds with a beautiful, relaxing charm. Highly recommended.
The building /property was beautiful , the food was very tasty, service was fantastic staff very nice, only thing that would have made it perfect would have been Cheesecake on the menu, but that’s just my personal favourite ! Would recommend and hope to visit when in Cotswolds area again, thanks
Welcoming and professional. The manager was aware of our special requests. The food(fish and chips, chicken supreme, beetroot risotto, ravioli) all delicious, nicely presented and simultaneously served, piping hot. Puddings good and very attentive but unobtrusive service. Saturday lunch, would recommend. Fair range of vegetarian fare, which is important to us.
Charming on the outside, charming inside too. A real gem, we'll definitely be back!
We were a group of very mixed ages from 6 to 86 and all were catered for with care and consideration. The meat was very tender, the fish cooked to perfection. Those who had a dessert all said how lovely it was. I thought the ginger ice cream was delicious, never tasted better.
We had a delicious dinner as a party of 6 for a special occasion. From the ambience, amazing selection of gin & drinks to wonderful service our whole evening from start to finish was perfect. We look forward to returning soon. Ola
Lovely staff, very friendly and efficient.
Food was faultless.
This is our second visit to The Maytime Inn, it did not disappoint, all four of us had a fabulous meal, I'm lactose and gluten intolerant but I still fount delicious things I could eat. My partner and I both had the tuna which was amazing my mother in law had chicken supreme she said it was the best meal she's had in years, I tend to agree, my father in law had the burger which was also excellent.
We had our dog with us who was made very welcome. I do suggest booking in advance so as not to be disappointed.
excellent food, service was good, one small niggle was corrected and coffee's given for free (Which we had not asked for), I would thoroughly recommend the Maytime.
Love this place, really comfortable, cosy and welcoming. Attentive staff, wine and good local beer, food exceptional! Thank you Imogen for looking after us.
Thank you so much! Hospitality was excellent, great wine, delicious food, beautiful atmosphere with the fire lit and great company. A fantastic place to showcase a beautiful traditional English establishment to my Dutch in-laws! Will be sure to return!
Our visit was in the early evening (6pm) on a Sunday as a party of three, including my elderly mother. The food was memorable with the chicken dish cooked to perfection along with the accompanying sauces. My husband had the Boar burger which was also excellent. The whole experience was what I hope for when dining out, but does not always match up to expectation. This time, it did.
Came here for roast lunch with my partner on a warm sunny day. Ambience outside was beautiful overlooking Cotswold hills, refurbished garden terrace with lovely plants. Food was very tasty, well presented and not too much portion wise. Service lacked attentiveness to its customers as staff seemed more focus on getting the drinks and food to the tables and the completion of their tasks. Had to eventually after 10/15 minutes of being seated flag down a waitress to take our order as we felt ignored by the waitresses passing us. After that the service was ok. But overall a good experience and would come back again but the service is in need of a brush up to be a perfect pub/restaurant for the Cotswolds
Another great meal - Sunday lunch with a choice of 5 meats on the menu and 2 vegetation options.
We had a lovely meal here, good service and a cosy atmosphere. Desserts were tasty but quite expensive in relation to portion size.
Our visit was off the back of a recommendation by a friend (wild board burger) already recommended to others ;0
