Wonderful food. service and venue. Not cheap but worth every penny. I will be back.
Amazing little place, great atmosphere & ambience. Service was great from the outset & our waiter Patrick just enhanced it a little further with the added humour. He was also very helpful with his recommendation for the dessert which was delicious. All the food was lovely but I did find the chicken dish a bit on the heavy side due to the sauce & sweetcorn. Would have preferred it to be slightly more delicately flavoured personally. My husband enjoyed his lamb & both our starters were lovely. The pea & coconut soup that was sent out as complimentary was delicious as were the freshly baked rolls. Overall experience was really enjoyable & we would return if we were in the area again.
Everything was outstanding from the place itself, staff and the food. Would come back again.
Amazing setting in this medieval inn. Imaginative menu and impressive wine list with my one major complaint being that the sticky toffee pudding (which was unnecessarily some deconstructed three sponge monstrosity with the sauce separate and not steamed) was stale.
Highly worth a visit though to one of the few remaining inns in Britain.
Absolutely amazing place. Lovely food and excellent service, especially Patrick. What a great guy, he made our evening that extra but special
Staff were very friendly. Food was very good. Lovely historic building.
We had booked for Sunday lunch and the service was dreadful. Really, really slow and when we did receive it the food was cremated.
We highlighted it at the time but not even an apology. Really disappointing
Very thoughtful and attentive service despite a very busy Bank Holiday evening.
The Mermaid Inn was AMAZING! The service and the food were fantastic and the atmosphere of the inn was great; we felt like we had stepped back in time. Will recommend to all my friends and other family members. We LOVED the Mermaid Inn. Thank you so much!
Great place, service and food quality. Highly recommend this place.
It was amazing. The Mermaid is well worth a visit. Fabulous buildings and helpful friendly staff. The food was excellent too
Great meal here and complementary soup. The waiting staff were attentive and friendly. Time was given between courses and the restaurant was very busy but everyone received attention. Would highly recommend.
Excellent food chosen from a short but adequately varied menu, friendly service, in a wonderful old dining room and accompanied by a really good and reasonably priced bottle of wine
Great food good service a place with good character recommend booking
High quality dining in one of England's oldest inns. Traditional, cozy and delicious, with friendly, attentive service, for a family get together.
The venue was a little tricky to find. We were very impressed with the food which was hot, freshly cooked and tasty.
Excellent food - beautifully presented with attentive and friendly staff
End of holiday
We arrive a little early but were greeted by a team of reruns polite and well dressed staff. The food was excellent and the portions were plentiful. We only made it through 2 courses of the Sunday lunch which was a shame because the desserts looked lovely. Thank you to all the waiting staff and chef
Everything was good, the staff were attentive but not over the top . We spent ages over our meal and retired to the lounge for coffee. No-one hurried us. We had a great time
The service was intermittent, we spent much of the evening with empty water glasses, no alcohol, or otherwise waiting for someone to attend to us - even when a waiter entered into our little room, they didn't look around to see if anyone else needed anything... My request to not have the sauce on my food resulted in getting none of the vegetables at all, i was told it was a misunderstanding and given a huge bowl of veg, but a bit frustrating to get my vegetables when I'd eaten most of my main.
All in all, I'd say they could do better, the food wasn't bad, but the lack of attention really let them down, perhaps more waiters are needed...?
We had a wonderful stay here with dinner and breakfast. Lovely food and fantastic staff
Good but not outstanding
Staff in restaurant very good.
A very special experience- we want to come back and stay in one of the rooms next time.
Gorgeous Sunday lunch. Atmosphere in The mermaid Inn was lovely, staff all very friendly and the food fantastic. Would highly recommend.
Superb food with unique choices, excellent value for money and fantastic staff.
Fine dining with silver service at a wonderful old Inn located in the lovely medieval town of Rye. The perfect place for a couple to get away to for the weekend.
We had a great meal , fantastic service by all the waiters and bar staff.
Had the table for 2 by the window , it's only a suggestion , serve the butter after guests have been seated
as it had melted in the sun . Of course this is a very small seasonal problem !
We had a lovely evening and are looking forward to staying with you in the near future .
What a place! Quaint and historic with a small dining room (leading to limited noise and attentive service). The food and wine selection is very good. Perfect for a family Sunday lunch :)
Beautifully crafted food, tasty and good value. My friends and I enjoyed a wonderful evening here.
This was our first visit but we're aware of The Mermaid' s reputation. We were celebrating our daughter's birthday. We arrived slightly early but were directed to the bar for a pre-dinner drink. Staff were friendly and courteous on arrival. We sat down exactly on time and were not rushed while choosing from the menu. There was an excellent choice. The waiter engaged with us from the start.
The meals were superb. I enjoyed the starter of Crab and Elderflower very much followed by the duck. Indeed all our party commented on the excellence of the food. We particularly enjoyed taking coffee in a small cosy lounge afterwards.
It was a great evening all round and we will definitely return for another celebration.
The Mermaid has become a Shrine, a place of pilgrimage. The ideal place to celebrate a birthday, an anniversary, in fact, any special occasion. That explains why so many people travel miles to enjoy that ambiance provided by 600 years of history with that special person, knowing that the excellent food, and great staff who are always immaculately dressed, will only enhance the occasion.
The Mermaid Inn is full of old world charm, set in a Tudor building on the cobbled Mermaid Street in Rye. On arriving at the Inn, we were greeted by the receptionist and directed to the restaurant, where the restaurant Manager greeted us and directed us to our table. We had two waiters attending to our needs, both of whom were professional, friendly and polite. One of our waiters, Patrick, was quite a comedian and he was very nice to chat to and he made us laugh. The food menu had a varied selection and the food was very well cooked and was extremely tasty. There was a good selection of drinks and wines. The restaurant itself was full of character, being wood panelled with a linen-fold pattern to the panelling. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at The Mermaid Inn, including the excellent service. After dinner, we had a drink in the Inn's bar, with it famous Giant's Fireplace. The Mermaid Inn is quite a unique venue and we had a wonderful evening here.
Good food in interesting combinations. Lovely setting and attentive staff.
Amazing building, friendly staff, complimentary soup! We came back the next night too......
We had a great meal at The Mermaid, Rye. Good value for money and food was really good as was the service. Everyone was friendly and make you feel very welcome. Will go back if the area.
Good food and very nice dinning room.
This is my favourite restaurant for a special occasion. It's a wondeful place in a pretty cobbled street full of character and history. The service and food are always excellent and I can highly recommend it.
