Too much food on plate moist of it taken by an over large YORKSHIRE pudding which should have been a quarter of the size` The sight put me off wanting to eat anything.

My wife and I visited the Merrie Lion for a mid-week lunch and to look for a pub to meet friends on a future occasion. We had an excellent 2 course meal, followed by coffee with plenty of choice on the menu and a good selection of ales. The service was efficient and very friendly. We at in the bar, which was pleasantly busy, but not too noisy and there was a wood-burning stove keeping the room warm and cheerful. Had we wished we could have eaten in the restaurant area, slightly separate from the bar. There is plenty of car parking. I would definitely recommend the Merrie Lion for a pub lunch or for a more substantial restaurant meal.

A really pleasant pub with excellent food and service. Real pies too, not a bowl of stew with a puff pastry lid. Will definitely go again.

Visited the Merrie Lion whilst on a canal holiday, bit of a walk from the mooring but worth it. The staff are very welcoming and we were served by a great young lady, Ella, whi made us feel at home. Food was delicious and we went away feeling very happy.

Staff friendly.
Car park small & the room that our table was in lacked warmth & atmosphere. Shame there was a modern electric fire in the old fireplace.

Good atmosphere, warm friendly greeting, helpful happy staff. Well cooked, imaginative and fresh food. Also familiar dishes. Not a huge choice (I prefer that) but something to suit all tastes. Always happy to accommodate particular needs or desires. Not overcrowded but generally busy. Good choice of beers, wines and gins.

We were a group of six friends. We were very well looked after with attentive service of both food and drink at the table (barman noticed when our glasses were getting empty). Pies on main menu were excellent and good choice of fresh vegetables. Only slight disappointment was the pudding (STP) which was rather solid and did not taste freshly made. The house real ale was also excellent.

Hosts very hospitable and helpful. A very interesting building, in a very lovely
village location. A couple of critisms, we had to wait for some 35-40 minutes
for our food but it was cooked fresh and enjoyable. The second problem was
there were numerous flies in the window which were irritating and troublesome.
When I complained I was told "Well this is in the country and health and safety
would not let us spray the offenders and sticky fly catchers were out of the
question." I would not accept a window table again. We shall visit again
and hopefully have a slightly better experience.

Great village pub. We went for sunday lunch and everything was great.
The sunday lunch was wonderful - we both had beef and it was cooked to perfection. The roasties were delicious and the yorkshire pudding was large and very tasty.

We'll definitely be back for sunday lunch again!

Went here after a walk on nearby Avon Dassett hills with friends : friendly welcome , very good waiting staff , beer good . The risotto was excellent , the roast meal excellent , the frittata was over-priced though and unimaginative . The outside area looked good .

We went on Mother's Day and the location was ideal as we all live in various parts of the midlands/south. Despite it being busy, the service was very attentive, the waitresses were very polite, even apologising for the food being a little delayed (we hadn't noticed, we were too busy catching up). We all had Sunday roasts and they were cooked to perfection. Good value for money too.

The Merrie Lion is only a few miles from home yet I had never considered visiting until it showed up on Open Table when I was searching for somewhere for Valentine's Day. In the booking, which went smoothly, I made the comment that one of us required gluten free dishes and it would be helpful if the serving staff were aware of this in advance. This appeared not to be the case but our waiter, a friendly and slightly eccentric chap, was happy to liaise with the kitchen regarding the options available to us.
The menu was comprehensive and well set out with all the typical allergen categories identified, though the number of dishes without the "G" was very limited, though in the end it turned out that some other dishes could be tweaked slightly to make them okay for my partner. I'm sure that someone popped round the corner to the co-op in order to provide gluten free toast with my partner's cheeseboard, since GF bread was not suggested as an option when we were choosing our starters.
The quality of the food was excellent and we enjoyed every course.
Total cost, with pre-dinner G&T and a nice bottle of red was £80 including tip which I thought was pretty reasonable for a nice evening with good food and a pleasant atmosphere. I'm sure we shall return.

The food was really good, and good portion sizes. The children were catered for brilliantly.
Very friendly service, nothing was too much trouble, and our dogs were made to feel very welcome too.
