I went for brunch with three friends. Everything from reservation, to the courtesy call a day before to confirm the reservation, the welcome, attentive service and great food was wonderful.
Service was terrible and food wasn’t usual good standard (eggs half uncooked, spinach soggy and over cooked...), but waiting staff were too preoccupied to speak to about it
Wonderful relaxed vibe outside but formal and elegant inside. The food is superb and everything was delicious. Highly recommend
Great attentive but not 'in your face all the time' service :)
Lovely food and ambience!
It was really pleasant, very welcoming and friendly staff and the food prepared to a perfection. I am so pleased to see it thus it went through a bad patch some months ago but has clearly regained the old perfect and friendliness we associate with the modern pantry.
Nice restaurant, food is nice. Staffs are very busy there so the waiting time is a little bit too long.
Met up with a friend for a Saturday brunch and really enjoyed our time. The place was super busy, and they gave us a table upstairs with a bit more space and not as noisy. The menu is my favourite part about Modern Pantry. So many great combinations and an impressive brunch menu. I will return to try something new the next time.
Delicious. I wanted every single thing on the menu. One of the nicest meals I’ve had in a long time and staff were so attentive
Really excellent food. A bit of a mix up with table but sorted out quickly.
Had brunch, starter arrived with main, very apologetic. Forgiven as food was so good.
Food was tasty and flawless presented. But wine was poured in a glass with dust in it. The service was uneven and it totally lost track when the restaurant got busy. Ambiance was terrible. Very noisy. I felt like I was in a pub. Overall, this is not an experience I would like to repeat
A relaxed outdoor brunch with good food and friendly service.
Had heard good things about place and menu looked interesting for brunch. Lovely looking restaurant but we were upstairs in room with mostly empty tables (despite tables empty downstairs) and view of cleaning products. Hoped good would compensate, eggs with bacon and mushrooms nice but not exceptional. Pancakes sounded great but seriously average with barely a spoonful of compote, making it overall bland. Bellini was ok. Not in hurry to return.
The location is great, airy and was on our list for a while to go and try out. Went there for brunch and was not disappointed. I had the pulled lamb on English muffins with poached eggs. Was tasty, albeit slightly more salty than it should've been. Also had the passion fruit smoothie which was excellent and very refreshing! Service a tad on the slower side - but hey, we went there for a leisurely brunch so no real complaints.
Good food and a nice atmosphere for a sunny day. The service was very slow though, considering it was a small restaurant and there were at least 4 or 5 waiters / waitresses who were all a little inattentive.
Had breakfast at the The Modern Pantry. Lovely place, great breakfast, nice staff.
A charming experience. Will return for lunch or dinner next time I´m in London.
Excellent food. Lovely terrace.
I can’t fault the food which was delicious, the chilli espresso martini which was amazing and the coffee was good. Our waitress was charming and efficient but the overall experience was spoiled by where we were sat. Admittedly we were 10 minutes late (for which we apologised), a lady who had arrived ahead of us was refused a table because they were “running a very tight schedule” as the front of house woman put it. We were shown upstairs, past many empty tables right through the dining room and seated behind a curtain where there were no other diners and near the kitchen door. Frankly it felt as though we had been seated in the naughty corner and the reason for only 1 star for ambience. I don’t find the naughty corner a particularly ambient place to be. There were tables available in the window which would have been very pleasant but we didn’t like to ask if we could move as we were expecting them to be filled as the lady had indicated that they were super busy. So we were quite surprised that during our time there only one more table came to be seated. All the window tables remained unoccupied, it seemed they had lots of space yet we were shoved behind this curtain and the poor lady in front of us at the door was turned away. I would highly recommend the food but am reluctant to return or recommend as I’m baffled about the hostesses behaviour. Shame, because that prawn omelette was to die for!
We went for brunch with friends - five adults and one child. While the staff was very friendly when I made the booking, I was a bit disappointed. I had not been back since 2011 but remembered it to be a cosy place with a nice brunch menu. This time I found it noisy, the food was average, with no food suggestions for children, plus they had run out of some items (cheese and ham croissant). I am not sure I would go back.
Very patchy service this time, cold toast, items missed. Not up to usual standards and not in line with the price. Clearly overwhelmed on this occasion (Father’s Day).
The food here is interesting and lively, and good for vegetarians as well as meat-eaters.
We ate here after spending the day visiting gardens and squares across London. The variety of choices on the menu was excellent. When the food came it was presented very well and the flavours were terrific. We will be back soon.
Have wanted to eat here for a while. On the whole, an underwhelming meal. Perfectly nice - but not memorable.
Very pleasant experience with outside dining space. Staff were polite and attentive
Terrible service and had to wait a long time for anything (water, ordering, paying). Plenty of staff around chatting to each other at the till. Booked a table but was sat downstairs - even though there was space upstairs when I passed by on the way to the loo.
Very different food with exciting ingredients. Very relaxed with no pressure to finish your meal, staff very helpful. We will be returning.
Went for brunch, booked in advance, all as expected, lovely food.
Really disappointing service - went for a birthday brunch and the waiter was really inattentive and we were rushed to order. Food was tasty but felt overpriced overall for such an average experience.
Lots of building works going on right next to where we were eating for Clerkenwell Design Week - not the fault of restaurant but I did book in advance so it would have been courteous to have been informed of this, especially as it was a special occasion brunch.
The menu was amazing! I ate food I’ve never tried or thought I wouldn’t like and it was all incredible. Need to book for their afternoon tea next!
Super , efficient, delicious, nice ambience, friendly.
The yuzu hollandaise was exceptionally good
Very good selection of dishes on the menu, high quality cooking, excellent choice of ingredients. Very nice ambience as well.
It was the fouth time we went to the Modern Pantry for brunch. The place is still really pleasant, with a really nice atmosphere. However, the service was a bit "messier" than what it was the other time we went there. Otherwise, we found that the food was still original, refreshing and diverse.
Great evening. Love the Modern Pantry. Been coming for a few years now and it’s always hitting the spot. Two of us had the onglet steak which was great and the other had the Persian lamb. Matched with perfect wine recommended by the waiter.
Stylish restaurant nicely situated on St John's Square with ambitious and and well-realised food. They dealt well with our dietary requirements and the virgin cocktails were as excellent as the alcoholic ones. Some previous reviewers have complained about the service but when I visited with two friends we were looked after well by a friendly and attentive young man. Overall a very pleasant experience.
Lovely service and a very quirky, adventurous menu. Was so hard to pick what to have because it all sounded delicious!
Food amazing, wasn't aware we only had the table for 1 hour and half got told we had to leave as the next table here.
Waitress stood and waited while we got our cards out and had me calculating how much we had to pay each.
Asked the waitress if she had Soya Milk, had no idea what her response was thought it was Almond milk but she was getting aggitated repeating herself so I just had my coffee black in the end.
Asked for water three times before we received any.
Come here for a quick bite in and out.
I sat upstairs and the acoustics are very harsh making it very noisy and canteen like. The food was very tasty though with a varied, interesting menu. Service was by 3 people, neither of which had any redeeming qualities in fact one was a little arsey.
I think this restaurant has had its day! We used to go virtually every weekend about 5 years ago when we lived nearby but on visiting this time it fees tired, the service is unaccomodating and the food is confused. That said the doughnuts were pretty special but other than that would not recommend.
The food was delicious and the service was good. A really lovely place for a quiet meal.
