Gorgeous food and drink selections, lovely atmosphere. Just a lovely place for brunch.
As usual an excellent culinary experience with very helpful and friendly service
The place looks and feels lovely. However, the food lacked seasoning and the service was slow. We never received a couple of the dishes we ordered, and no one offered us a menu to look at desserts or coffee. I plannned this as a birthday brunch for my husband and it was disappointing overall.
The best value and tastiest brunch that I've had in London.
All four of us had different dishes and each one was excellent.
Didn't have most of their juices and smoothies, waiter kept forgetting drinks we'd ordered, service was very slow and they forget some side dishes... food was ok but service let it down badly
Haven’t been for a couple of years so it was good to re-try. Their cutting edge style of food is no longer so cutting edge as others now concentrate on unusual spices, vegetables, ingredients, exotic influences and foraging but it is still very inspirational, inventive and modern.
My colleague’s hispi cabbage based starter was a tad bland but my Mexican style spiced prawns in an omelette was a good and unusual starter. My supreme of chicken in an unusually spiced sauce with mushrooms and other accompaniments main was light and excellent. Sides offered were interesting but not needed which cuts down the costs. Interesting desserts which we did not try (cutting down for January!) Shortish but good wine list with a good range. We had a good Albariño (Pazo Senorans) from Rias Baixas that I have had several times before - one of the best - but a tad overpriced at £50
The service was efficient but our waiter was not exactly charming or friendly. Could be improved. Previous visits had more charming service.
My double macchiato came with the cutest teddy bear picture dribbled on the top. Would add a picture but don’t have access from this iPad
Disappointing the food was tasteless; would not recommend
Friendly staff and a good table with lots of room and we could hear each other. Service was nice but an ingredient was not known and one side dish forgotten. Food was just about okay. The fish was overcooked and very salty and the squid ink ‘sauce’ starchy and flavourless. Heritage potatoes overcooked and lamped.
I took my mum for brunch and it was lovely, food stunning
Sadly the upstairs was closed but we had a nice table downstairs (avoided the refectory table!). The flavours were amazing - however the cut of steak was quite tough. Service was very good but impersonal.
The food was amazing!! So many flavours. Not boring basic classic brunch food. It has a middle eastern twang. Shoutout to the chicken spring rolls ❤️
Excellent breakfast options, but the room is very noisy and the staff are a bit perfunctory and lacking in warmth.
We enjoyed our meal. We were given an upstairs table in the window which I asked for. I love the area and the feel of eating in a Georgian?/Victorian house. The only complaints....another vegetarion option, one of my friends did not have much choice.
Very good place, but busy. Food good quality. If sitting near the front door in winter quite cold however, even with the curtain!
Really nice lunch - we opted for a selection of small plates and they were all delicious. I would recommend it to anyone wanting some interesting flavours and quality food.
I'd first come to the MP when Anna Hansen set it up - and my friend Bill Knott did the wine list. And I've been a few times since. It's held true to its fusion, Kiwi roots, but seems to have grown in confidence and swagger over the years. The smoked burrata salad was gorgeous - great courgettes - and the steak was to-die for. Yum. Plus a great place for a semi-formal business meeting (emphasis on the semi). AND I was sat next to a long-time collaborator, whose taste in restaurants I rate highly.
We had a lovely time and the breakfast was fantastic!
I found the decor a little stark and the lack of a lunch menu (brunch only on a Saturday) somewhat disappointing. However, the quality of the food was good and the service discreet and professional.
We cam here last yeatfor our anniversary and it was amazing.
The service was slow and the ambience was really loud. The food for that price should have been better!
Lamb was big but too overcooked. not medium rare as advertised, focaccia of the soup was too crunchy and hard.
Such a shame
Don’t think we will come back here!!
Good restaurant with good food. Service was a bit mixed but staff were pleasant. Not everything on the menu was available when requested.
Amazing bruch dishes & friendly service! Interesting combintation of ingredients and a lot fo choice.
Lovely service in a relaxed ambience, and the food was delicious. Great portions with interesting and unusual flavours. Would definitely come back!
Service very slow, could be due to several Christmas parties going on. Ran out of 2 dishes we ordered (menu is not that huge) and the wine we chose. Didn’t take into account meat cooking request (even though prompted by server that it could be cooked to order). Just generally underwhelming food and service.
Some of the food was awful. Miso doughtnuts were so overflavoured and salty to be inedible. The trout was cold but semi cooked and not cured as advertised and was actually quite vile we couldnt finish it. The pork had a tough bit of knuckle that I had to spit out.
The service was too familiar - I had half a bottle of wine and the waitress was really patronising like 'are you sure?' 'that's a lot!' and laughing which is kind of funny but also a bit weird. Plus they kept spilling things, taking plates before they were finished
The Modern Pantry remains a stand out restaurant for a quiet well executed lunch or dinner for those who want an unusual menu which seeks out new ingredients and combinations. Pleasant space, good service and very good food.
A very pleasurable dining experience with well-presented and delicious food, a decent selection of wine and cockatils, and a good spread of gluten-free options from their seasonal menu. Staff were lovely and accommodating, the space is clean, modern and has lovely upstairs and private dining areas. Really recommended for all sorts of occasions.
Strange that in an empty restaurant they sat a couple right next to us. The lamb came out cold and uncooked but was quickly rectified.
Great service and relaxed environment, I booked Modern Pantry for a client breakfast... I ordered a delicious omelette with Asian shrimp. Coffee is great and it's a calm, grown-up environment which is ideal for all times of the day.
It is a nice place, friendly staff and good atmosphere, but it can certainly benefit from a more vegetarian friendly menu. Only one single vegetarian main on the menu, which tasted ok, a bit boring actually. The started were much better, even though selection still very limited.
Staff did not know which meals were gluten free and didn’t allow us to make any changes to menu
Great brunch, we come weekly especially enjoying the prawn omelette, eggs benedict and waffles.
It was fine but nothing more. Staff were quite sassy and sharp (not in a pleasant way).. not particularly warm, welcoming or friendly. I asked for vegan menu or just generally which menu items were vegan and was handed an allergy book (?!?!). Waitress did take time to run through menu but no decent vegan options - fruit salad and small chia pudding surely can't classify as suffient?!. despite being called the 'modern' pantry. Not very modern to not have decent vegan choices given there is a large community of vegans now! We ordered the 3 sides (tomatoes, mushrooms and avocado) with toast as that was all there was of hot food. It literally came as 2 slices of dry toast with the 3 items beside. Tomatoes seasoned well and very tasty, mushrooms nothing-y and tasteless, avocado just avocado. As I said, fine, but surely it would be super easy to have a 'herb roasted heritage tomatoes on toast' or 'garlic mushrooms on an mashed avocado toast' option?! They did have a choice between almond and oat milk which was good. Overall, it was disappointing, but there is SO much potential. All it would take is for the staff to put some effort into warmth and friendliness, the menu to include a couple of vegan choices (which would be super cheap and easy to produce - winner!) and all of a sudden you would gain custom from the enormous vegan community and customers who are happy to pay for good quality food and an overall enjoyable dining experience. May I recommend you stock a few vegan pastries from I believe the 'artesian bakery'. They have vegan croissants and a such, which FLY off the shelf in all places sold... there aren't many so it's such a good opportunity! Hope this helps!
Great value set brunch menu, with good options and a perfect amount of food - service was quite slow but it was busy. Prawn omelette really excellent!
This place never disappoints. The menu is interesting and different without being too much. The food is just delicious. The service is efficient and friendly. This place could be so stuffy but isn't at all. I could eat here every day and be happy.
The food couldn’t have been better. Unfortunately the service was terrible. We arrived at 2pm, 30 mins ahead of our reservation and were kindly seated as the restaurant was not busy. Despite the fact that the restaurant was not busy (15 people max) and there we ample waiting staff (I counted 5), we had to ask for the wine list, had to ask to order drinks and then food and then waited more than 10 minutes for one cocktail. The waiting staff did nothing proactive the entire meal such as top up our wine or ask if we wanted another drink (when glasses were clearly empty). It was incredibly hot and we had to ask 3 times for the aircon to be turned on. When we’d finished our main course we were the only people in the restaurant (we hadn’t had a starter so it wasn’t like we‘d been there for a long time). The staff had started to set up what I assume was some kind of staff tasting party with lots of cakes at the shared table we were sitting at, which was a rather odd thing to do in my opinion. At this point it became clear that we had outstayed our welcome (not that we felt welcome in the first place) the waiter clearing our plates suggested that we probably didn’t want coffees. Clearly keen to get rid of us they didn’t even mention dessert (which oddly was on our sharing table), which I was really looking forward to. All in all a really poor experience, we felt totally unwelcome and I felt really embarrassed as I had suggest the restaurant to my colleagues. A real shame because as I said the food was fantastic. There doesn’t seem to be any reason for the lack of service, ie staffing issues etc and you can book later tables that the one I had done so I’m not really sure why you except a 2.30pm reservation if you don’t want people there at 3pm? I’ve since read trip advisor reviews and this is a pretty consistent theme unfortunately. All in all very disappointing.
I have eaten here many times and the food is consistently good. Of course the prawn omelette is delicious and it’s hard to go there and not order it!
Sunday brunch. Enjoyed the prawn omlette. Quite a small portion. Wish I'd ordered another main (did have side of haloumi). Will probably return one day.
Had a lovely time, and thought the food and service was very good. Lovely ambience and nice rooms. I really liked the set brunch as it took all the effort out of having to choose. The only pitfall was that it was extremely noisy. I had to lean over the table to hear my friend. 8/10 (-2 for noise)
I've always been here for special occasions but I cam e for breakfast and it was lovely just to chill out on a wet Sunday morning.
We had a wonderful dinner for two in an unpretentious yet cosy downstairs room. Service was friendly and quick and the food well cooked and well presented. A firework of flavours from the starter to the dessert. Very good wine selection. Nice crowd of locals and office workers with some (few) tourists. Highly recommended.
