The Modern Pantry Clerkenwell
The first floor Dining Rooms (Restaurant) is comprised of two elegant, light filled rooms overlooking St John’s Square. Classic Heritage features are complimented with contemporary design creating an intimate and relaxing atmosphere.
The Ground Floor Café is a modern casual dining space serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner 7 days a week, with out door seating in the summer.
It seems odd that a restaurant opens at the exact time of the first booking, makes for a cold experience if your a touch early, puts me off booking as 8am is the time I need.
Delicious food and drinks, everyone enjoyed their meal. Mains are quite expensive considering no sides come with them.
From initial days I have been a confirmed fan of TMP. But in my more recent experience the quality of cooking has been going down. On this occasion the main courses were very good. But the starter prawn omelettes were over-done. And vegetable side-orders were in texture both very tired and far too complicated. The favoursome mains cried out for simple sides to compliment and not rival/taste confuse.
On the strength of this meal regrettably I would not recommend.
Our Sunday Breakfast was truly relaxing and very delicious.
A real lovely venue with unusual, imaginative and delicious food
Unfortunately we were the only ones in so it felt a bit soul less - was better when we were joined by another table . Shame because the food was nice and it had a festive feel about it . We’d been to saddlers wells theatre and it was a 20 minute walk . Would happily go there again - but would check it was a bit busier as feel a bit conspicuous when eating as a table of 4 .
Really tasty food, and such a great menu. We visited on a Sunday at 1pm so it was pretty quiet.
Very charming place with a varied menu. I would definitely return
Great food, reasonable price
Would recommend for any occasion
There is some great food but like many small plate restaurants some work better than others. Try the cauliflower and artichoke salad!
Overly familiar service becomes a little intrusive and the corporate Xmas lunches annoying with their screaming as talking and self absorbed approach to space. May be worth visiting again Jan-Nov.
Attentive, perceptive service from front-of-house ensuring that we got what we wanted; excellent and interesting food. Very pleased.
Good food, daring combination
Had great promise but didn’t deliver. The menu sounds delicious but what arrives in beige and lacklustre and far too bland. My colleague had a hair in hers. Such a shame as was looking forward to it, but it needs to work much harder for the price that is being charged.
We shared small plates. Badly cooked (one was charred and bitter); cheese was served straight out of the fridge and was so chilled it tasted of nothing.
A noisy hen night completed the picture.
Great menu, lovely setting. I’ll definitely return!
The wait staff were friendly and attentive and the prices were probably lower than average for the area, so that's good.
However, we weren't impressed by the following:
(i) We had a group of five and instead of bringing out everyone's food together, they brought one or two dishes out a time over the course of about 10-15 minutes;
(ii) We had booked for five and were shown to a table that had been set for four;
(iii) The food was average - nothing horrible, but just run of the mill both in terms of presentation and taste.
It's a shame as the venue could be really nice, and from reviews, I take it has been in the past.
Birthday dinner with friends.
Perfect pit stop for a business brunch. Friendly staff, great food, charming location.
Brunch was subpar unfortunately.
Very enjoyable Sunday morning brunch. We had porridge and eggs.
Tasty coffee and food.
The food is excellent and the wine very drinkable. Just be mindful that you may get other diners on the night who are quite boisterous. I did my best to ignore but my fellow diners were not so good at it
Food is good but nothing to go crazy about. The location is also very nice. Service can improve a lot.
Great coffee, wonderful place for a lunch meeting!
Nice food in a rather sparse but pleasant cateen style dining environment...
The food is really good here and the place is pretty. We had a departmental dinner which was enjoyable however service has been slow both times we have been.
We were in London for a short trip, and heard about Modern Pantry from a colleague at work. We tried several different dishes, including appetizers, but nothing was to our liking. The food overall was unimpressive, and I don’t think I’d return.
We went for mother’s day brunch and were sat upstairs which ha last a nice feel to it. It’s like your inside someone’s lounge so you instantly feel relaxed.
Food was lovely and fresh and the service was really relaxed but attentive.
a very interesting menu with some unusual ingredients. All came together well and was well executed. All of the party enjoyed the meal
Fantastic food at very reasonable prices. The onglet steak was excellent
Such good brunch! Definitely recommend going here for great food and pretty vibes
My favourite place for a special brunch with family and friends. Lovely food and great service!
it was a quiet night at the Open Pantry, perfect time for a meal to catch up with a friend. Great service, intertesting menu and attentive service with plenty of vegan/vegetarian and gluten free options. Chef altered the dressing on the salad for my coeliac afflicted companion. Carafe of the house white was excellent, pork perfectly cooked, everything pretty much perfect.
I enjoyed my meal - I tried both the sugar prawn omelette and the portobello mushrooms. They were simple dishes but tasty enough. Not particularly outstanding in anyway but can't complain. My friend ordered the corn bread & chorizo which was quite dissapointing. The cornbread was incredibly dry. The service was also quite poor - we had to call the waitress over each step of the way, our coffees all came out quite cold, and then our cups were all cleared away before we finished drinking water or had been even provided with the bill. Overall, my meal was nice but wouldn't return.
The modern pantry has a fresh and seasonal menu with food that is always beautifully presented and tastes amazing!
The food was ok, but not great. I had the Cornish fish and it was a bit of an odd assortment of flavours on the plate. Small portion for the price, too. Service was attentive and friendly and the cocktails nice.
Not my favourite experience this time around as the meal was too fatty. Still love the ambience and service however
Great food and good service. Would highly recommend.
Excellent business lunch. Very light, ambience great and the food was outstanding!!!
We really like the modern pantry, afternoon tea is lovely, imaginative, we added a Bellini each, and that pushes up the bill but hey, it was a birthday.
Cheese scones were gorgeous, lemon curd sublime, and for a Saturday afternoon it was surprisingly empty.
My only gripes are the cake was totally underwhelming, and the music playlist was weird and too loud.
Left after 10 min because it was extremely loud. Do not go on a Saturday
