The Mole and Chicken is a picturesque, ivy-covered country pub and restaurant in Easington near Long Crendon that is renowned for its Sunday roasts and superb views of the surrounding Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire countryside. The country-cottage-chic interior is all chocolate brown and tan leather seats, whitewashed walls and designer fabrics, and the kitchen at The Mole and Chicken uses seasonal ingredients to create their moreish Mediterranean/British menu. We highly recommend the BBQ belly pork ribs; chilli fried baby squid with garlic, lemon and olive oil; and the devilled kidneys on toast. Enjoyed yourself so much that you don't want to leave? You don't have to, just book one of the five boutique bedrooms located next door!

We made a last minute booking for NYE dinner. You're never confident when making a rushed booking, however we couldn't be more pleased! I don't like to visit the same places, but would definitely return here!

The Mole & Chicken is a great pub and I'd recommend it. Lovely food, great atmosphere, the only slight criticism I have is that the service tailed off a bit as our lunch went on.

Even though our online booking didn’t appear to be know to the Mole & Chicken on arrival and being told the kitchen had closed the barman checked with the chef and he agreed to reopen the kitchen for us. There was no restrictions in our choices from the menu and the food was excellent. Some might have expected a less than expected service due to the re opening of the kitchen but I’m pleased to say this wasn’t so. Excellent food and service

Food was really good and flavours throughout were perfect.
Can't fault the menu.
On arrival it took several minutes before we were greeted, albeit there were only two people at the bar and had to get up to pay as once service was over we were left to our own devices. Nothing serious, just took a star away as it was a special night out for us.

Service slow and had to chase drinks. Food is OK but have had better meals there before. Seems to be going though a less successful time. Hope it improves as setting and ambience have been very good.

I’ve been twice now and both times the food was exceptional. Absolutely delicious.
Any time I have friends to visit I’ll be bringing them here.
Not sat outside yet, but looking forward to enjoying the amazing view when we do.

Three of us had a one course al fesco lunch on Bank Holiday Monday. The food (we had ordered two different fish dishes between us) was very pleasant and well cooked. The service was very slow, which didn't matter greatly to us, but it clearly also affected others. Perhaps they had underestimated demand – it was a beautiful day.

Tasty food in a reasonable quiet atmosphere, good friendly service. Only downside was the window seats weren't the most comfortable for us so I would request a different table next time. The restaurant had not received the open table booking when we arrived!

What a disappointment the food was poor, fish over cooked and the sauces for steaks didn't arrive on time The place wasn't busy so it's hard to see why it was so bad. quite a trek to get there means I was even more disappointed and won't be going back. Why is this part of Bucks such a wasteland for Sunday evening eating?

Second visit, lovely place. Menu doesn't seem to change much but the food is very fresh and quite innovative. Special mention for the eel starter which blew us away, as well as the service which was brilliant. The owner is lovely.

We sat down at 7 so missed the 8pm rush. Food was delicious, service was excellent especially from the tall blonde lady, maybe Swedish? Food arrived promptly and we felt acknowledged, in no rush to leave and very happy all evening. We were celebrating an anniversary and it was perfect. Thanks The Mole & Chicken!

This is a favourite restaurant local to Aylesbury for very good food, friendly service with a good country pub style ambiance. Eating here is always good, always enjoyable and reasonably priced.

This place is in a really nice setting. It is worth having a drink outside before or after to take in the views. The food is also very good. We ate the ox cheeks which were fantastic and the hake which also very good though the portion of samphire possibly a bit too generous. We also had 2 fish and chips - the fish was fresh and the chips very good. The music was not to our taste but the volume was fine. The building has a lot of character and the service is friendly. We wished we lived closer as we'd like to go back. We will return the next time we are dining in the area.

The Mole and Chicken occupies and elevated position with wonderful long views over the Vale of Aylesbury. This is definitely a dining pub with beams, stripped wood furniture and an open fire. It's not the sort of place to go for a drink as there are virtually no seats. All the tables are laid.

The menu has some variety and is well cooked. The risotto was very good but the spiced chicken salad lacked subtlety. The puddings were good. It's not cheap but neither does the cost rankle. The service is well meaning and polite but not particularly polished.

Overall this we rate the Mole and Chicken as a good choice with very pleasant ambience and tasty, well cooked food.

I had a very enjoyable evening with an old school friend catching up. the food was fantastic, slightly more expensive for a pub meal than I am used to. the portion sizes were perfect and we just managed to fit in three courses.
The service between courses was very quick, with minutes between starters and main course. we booked on top table for 7.30 but were phoned to ask if 7pm would be ok as there was no availability for 7.30. with this in mind we presumed they wanted the table back, which was why we were surprised to find ourselves waiting for the bill for 30 mins. we didn't mind, but were not offered coffee or anything else once they took the pudding bowls.
I would return for the food and that's the main thing!

We booked a table for a party of 7 just before Christmas. Food is good although I was expecting a bit more of my Christmas beef rib main. The service was excessively slow and the restaurant was not even half full. We left after the main since our toddler had enough and we didn't order our dessert which was part of the menu. The staff didn't mentioned anything and was quite happy to charge us full price plus the service charge for parties of 6 or more.
Sorry Mole and Chicken but we won't return again.

We had a special family meal for 8 and we weren't disappointed. The decor was nice. What looks like a run of the mill pub but with very lovely food indeed. I didn't pay the bill but i don't suppose it was cheap but i wouldn't expect it to be for what we got!

We went to the Mole & Chicken for our anniversary and it was our first time there. We had been recommended it as an informal restaurant with good food and service.
The place is under staffed. We waited 40 minutes between our starter and main course and for the entire time our starter plates were left on the table. We had to catch the waitresses eye for drinks (which wasnt easy as they were rushed of their feet). We wouldnt have minded so much if it was packed to capacity, but it wasnt. The icing on the cake was that when the bill arrived with a comment card it had already been filled out as EXCELLENT!
The food was OK, my steak was cooked well, other half's over done and leathery.
The service was so poor we wouldnt return or recommend.

We dined at The Mole & Chicken on several occasions some years ago when it was run by New Zealand staff and it was excellent. Reports that it had gone downhill put us off further dinner dates! However, recently we were advised to give it another go and we were far from dissapointed.
Congratulations to all who have brought the dining experience in this establishment back up to near top notch.
We'll certainly be returning.

Light crispy fried squid and aioli - nice smaller portion as a starter and very well seasoned - not bland
Lean grouse and fresh veg - good mix of veg vs meat
Warm and delicious hot chocolate fondant, good portion size as it's rich!

The Mole and Chicken is very beautifully set, and rightly proud of its rank in The Times as the nation’s 3rd best. However, such high accolades are a lot to live up to. Only a couple of ales and no cider on tap, and a delay in being seated weren’t a perfect start; however, sizeable starters were enjoyable, though the devilled kidneys lacked any piquancy at all which was a shame. It was a Sunday menu, so predominantly roasts on offer – we had one pork, one beef, both of which were good without jumping out as much more than good pub fare. We had a nice glass of house red to accompany, and overall a pleasant evening – though nothing we couldn’t have got in the village pubs where we live, at a more reasonable price.
