A very underrated restaurant for a business lunch. Choice of a menu fixe or a la carte. it has long been a favourite. Food excellent, and staff attentive without being intrusive. Tables are set well apart so no danger of "spilling any beans".
I like it and will continue to use it from time to time, when in the Portman Square area.
We were on holiday from the US at the Hyatt Churchill for a week. Though we enjoy exploring local restaurants, the long touring days sometimes make you want to just stay on property. So glad we did. Ended up with one lunch and two dinners at Montagu over the course of the week. Selction and quality always first rate, and appreciated the all day dining menu for basics and comfort food when needed. Lucky enough to have Joseph (sp?) as our server at two dinners. He (and his petite lady server partner) were extraordinary in service, focus and tiny details. Always anticipating and noting if something was perhaps not exactly what my daughter or we were looking for. Well done Joseph and Hyatt!
Good quality food and surrounding. A special mention is the excellent service. We were well look after.
Unfortunately the ambiance is lacking as the restaurant is open to the hotel lobby and feels like you are eating in the lobby with people walking by. The food was disappointing. My steak was not served hot and was chewy - not tender at all. My wife's fish was tasteless and not filleted correctly with excessive bones in every bite. On the positive side, the service was fine, side dishes of spinach and potatoes were yummy, and we had a nice bottle of wine. But overall, we don't recommend a special trip to this restaurant for a meal.
Fabulous champagne brunch on Easter Sunday, can't recommend it enough.
Fabulous as usual.
I have been few times to this brunch and it never disappoints, dishes varies and lovely restaurant staff. You're in for a treat.
Absolutely perfect. Went for mother's day and couldn't have asked for more.
Food was very well presented & tasty. We were very happy with the service received. We would recommend
Excellently prepared food in the open kitchen. Good value set Meal menu. Wines by the glass prohibitively expensive, though.
The food was very good, particularly the cod. The 2 types of bread served at the start of the meal were fresh, warm and plentiful. I tried an IPA actually brewed in India that was lovely, if expensive at £8 a bottle.
Amazing Brunch, delicious food and impeccable service.
First time at their Saturday Italian/New York brunch. Not the same breadth of choice you get at their Sunday brunch, but very enjoyable nonetheless and with a wider choice of alcohol. Good atmosphere. Interestingly men were outnumbered by women by about 4:1
Nice winter alfresco bar with pretty Christmas decorations . Great ambience and fancy winter cocktails choice
Amazing service, the staff were truly amazing and great afternoon tea! A hidden gem, will be back again!
Nice afternoon tea and good service
A fantastic all-can-eat buffet with unlimited champagne and wine. Starters are particularly delicate and well prepared. Staff are extremely efficient at topping up your glass. In addition to main courses like a sunday roast, chicken, salmon and usual trimmings, they do a nice line in scrambled egg, sausage, bacon and mushrooms. Well worth a visit.
Excellent quality food at a fair price.
Will visit again when in the area.
The Montagu always consistently delivers a relaxed sophisticated dining experience. Great food and exceptional service.
Excellent service and quality of food! I would recommend this for anyone wanting to find a quiet romantic getaway.
Good food, good service and genuinely bottomless champagne. Very enjoyable lunch
The staff were phenomenal, attended to all our needs and really made us feel welcome. We went for the Chocola-tea afternoon tea to celebrate my birthday. I would definitely recommend this for special occasions and places to try for afternoon tea.
Very enjoyable dinner in relaxed atmosphere; professional and attentive service.
The chocolate-tea was amazing, as were their specialist teas. However service a little slow in spite of it being a fairly quiet weekday.
Servings staff were friendly although knowledge of food scetchy they did go to check but had to be reminded. Venue very noisy and echoing so conversation difficult. Food was good and exciting although table was not large enough to hold it all so lots of juggling of crockery etc on our part required.
Really delicious afternoon tea with champagne. Wonderful cakes, especially the raspberry eclair. Lots of different tea choices. Very reasonably priced compared to other similar afternoon teas in London. Service was good although we were left for quite a while after we were finished before having an opportunity to ask for the bill. Would definitely recommend.
While visiting London, we wanted an authentic afternoon tea experience. The Hyatt Churchill did not disappoint. The ambience, the service, the presentation were all lovely. A little pricey but that is to be expected.
We were really looking forward to sampling the Choclatea sponsored by Green and Blacks, however the dishes weren't really thought through. Salmon and chocolate? Aubergine and chocolate?! Really? Why not just keep to sweet dishes?! We love chocolate but the experimentation wasn't very good and the chef clearly didn't put much thought or effort in. The tea was a bit disappointing to be honest.
Wouldn't go back as the best thing was the champagne.
My wife and I came here for their Chocolate Afternoon Tea and it was exquisite. The tea was the best we have ever tasted - a perfect mix of cocoa nibs, cinnamon, nutmeg, and orange. The food was also not to be missed. Nearly every dish was a highlight, but the biggest standouts were the white chocolate and passion fruit macarons, the slider with chocolate bbq sauce, and the dark chocolate mousse with raspberries.
Several days later, we're still talking about this meal.
For the meal price unlimited champagne, red and white wine, as well as soft drinks are included. We booked this location because of the pleasant uncrowded ambience and the live piano and singer which went to make up a really delightful Sunday brunch experience. Not to forget the food, which was fresh, high quality, well presented and with an excellent selection to suit all tastes. Highly recommended venue.
We took another couple here for the fabulous sunday brunch with unlimited champagne (and wine). We all had a great time. Starters are especially fine, as are the 'afters'.
The Montagu is one of my favourite restaurants and as I mentioned previously I have experienced excellent services. However unfortunately I was so disappointed this time.
Food - Starter (mussel) was not fresh. Further it was over-salty. Main (fish) was over-salty as well. I don't think I lost my sense of taste.
Service - Staff paid no attention to my dishes I left almost, so I told them that both starter and main were too salty for me to eat. They apologized, however didn't try to change the dishes.
Eventually they charged only dessert and drink to me - it was fair.
Hope this happened by accident.
Overall, I was a bit disappointed with the quality of the afternoon tea on offer at what is a prestigious venue. Some of the sandwiches were made on bread that was more than a day old. The cakes and pastries were only adequate in style and quality. The music was too loud for comfortable conversation. Lack of attention by staff to refilling tea pot with hot water. Given the cost per head, it was not value for money
I'm not generally too fussed with the sandwiches at Afternoon Teas, though have to say was pleasantly surprised how tasty these were. Definitely high quality. The hotel itself is really beautiful inside and there was even some live piano to compliment the ambience. Service was excellent and we even got to take some of the cakes home in a very elegant box as everything was quite filling. Important to note we were offered a free refill of our sandwiches, though we declined the generous offer as wanted to get stuck into the scones and cakes.
In terms of price, you'd be hard pushed to find any Champagne Afternoon Tea around this area for as cheap as £30. All in all, there were no faults to speak of. Would highly recommend.
We went for the Sunday champagne brunch buffet and it was lovely. Great room and lovely, friendly staff. The champagne flowed constantly and we did not have to ask to be topped up. Good selection and ingredients. excellent for a birthday celebration. would definitely return.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at the Montagu. The food was tasty and well presented. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The wines which went with the fixed price menu had changed since our previous visit and both were good. The fixed price lunch was excellent value for money.
Another week and another lunch The Montagu. Apart from not liking the starter I had everything else was fine. It remains excellent value with their set lunch which includes half a bottle of wine.
Always been impressed by this place. Great food and service overall.
I have been now 3 times in this restaurant. Something has changed. The service was not so good than before. The atmosphere was different. Food was good and delicious.
The set menu deal was good menu. The scallop starters were lovely. My main was chicken was was really nice, the fish looked divine too. Cheese was included within the 3 courses which was a nice change and it was a good portion and great cheese. My friend had the trifle which was one of the best trifles I have tasted. This is a great place for dining and I will be returning.
Lunch on a sunny day at The Montagu is a pleasure. A lovely view of Portman Square, good food and wine and a very welcome air of quiet enjoyment makes this place unbeatable .
