The Muddy Duck - Hethe
Sad to hear that the restaurant is changing, but looking forward to the new concept and hope the food remains as good as always. Look forward to the next tenyears
Birthday meal for two
As always staff , food and presentation of restaurant and pub excellent.
Beautifully presented food. Very good and tasty food. Lovely environment to eat in
Food not as good as last visit
Cold pickled red cabbage with shepherds pie didn t work
Better to go for a Sunday roast
The best Sunday roast in a restaurant that I have had . The very generous portion of beef was excellent,. The vegetables you could not fault. Great service , Lovely ambiance, with lots of family chatter around .
Beautiful food, very attentive and friendly service, lovely surroundings
The Muddy Duck was excellent, we took two friends who absolutely enjoyed themselves.
The was very good and service first class.
Would definitely recommend to a friend.
Awesome food and welcoming and engaging service! Great evening.
Food and service great as always. Staff attentive but leave you to enjoy your meal. Plenty of choice on the menu
The food and service at the muddy duck on Friday night was absolutely first class
As I put on Trip advisor, good parking, warm welcome, timely & appropriate service & the food, FABULOUS, all staff engaging & friendly. Overall a great lunch spent with friends - thank you
My friend and I both travelled an hour to meet up half way, This is the second time we have visited The Muddy Duck and have been very pleased and made very welcome here. I think it will definitely be our meeting place for the foreseeable future. Very enjoyable.
Food was amazing as it has been on 2 previous visits waitress was very friendly, very knowledgeable and answered any questions we had about the menu. I have certain things I cannot eat and the chef adapted a dish for me which was amazing. I highly recommend the Muddy Duck and if we lived nearer would visit more often
The roast dinner was delicious. A bit disappointed that the Yorkshire pudding was a bit burnt. Other than that it was delicious!
We had an excellent Sunday lunch, really recommend the Beetroot Risotto.
The best Sunday roast I’ve ever had ! Charming place and great service
By far our favourite place for Sunday lunch in Oxfordshire. We love going there!
The Sunday lunches are excellent. The plates are piled high and the meat was amazing. My kids ate up all of theirs too. Highly recommended
We've been here several times and the food and ambiance have always been exceptional .
The staff are warm and welcoming and enthusiastic about the food.
We arrived a few minutes early so had a drink in the bar first, it's a lovely and cosy English country pub at the front, Our waiter came and found us when the table was ready but there was no sense of us being hurried to our seats.
The food is fantastic, a good choice of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes and everything cooked to perfection, in four visits I've not had anything I didn't love. The scallops starter was sweet and melted in the mouth, and the slow braised lamb shank was amazing.
Sunday Lunch. Good as always, was quiet as it was so sunny outside.
Lovely family birthday meal. Food was good as always however I thought there could have been a better selection of vegetables with the Sunday roast. Service was excellent and ambience very relaxed anc welcoming
Perfect for a family lunch with 9 around a perfect round table. Vould not be bettered
We usually love this restaurant for food, but unfortunately we had a poor meal with poor service last time we visited.
I’m not sure if the chef has changed but the entire meal tasted of butter which was not pleasant.
The usual main guy was not there that day so not sure if it is under new management or if he had the night off.
It may be a one off, which I do hope.
I was going to book my birthday meal there for 12 guests but that meal put me off as didn’t want to risk it being for a special occasion. Such a shame.
We are returning customers, super place to eat and usually great food but both plates of our Sunday Lunch beef was very fatty and just unpleasant. The majority went onto a side plate which was “beautifully” foil wrapped for our dogs at home. Disappointing as usually have three superb plates.
Lovely atmosphere & food. Looked after all guests well
Fantastic roast with great service. Big portions and decent side dishes, slightly let down by mediocre roast potatoes and over-done yorkshires. Wouldn't have wanted to spend any more than the £19 charged, but a high-quality, memorable experience all round.
Food was amazing apart from Roast potatoes. They were disgusting - overcooked and hard. Reheated a number of times.
The rest was amazing so to mess up roast potatoes on a roast dinner was very disappointing!
The standard of food is amazing and plentiful. The service is outstanding and the staff are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommended. Keep up the good work.
Had a table for 3 for Sunday lunch, one of our party is only partially sighted and the staff did all they could to ensure we were really well looked after. The food was both ample portions and extremely tasty. Finally I need to mention our waitress (Alice) who was brilliant.
I generally can not fault these guys. I've only ever had great experiences. This occasion though we were disappointed with the service we got after explaining we felt there was too much truffle oil in the Venison and Boar Ragu. The truffle oil completely overwhelmed the dish to the point that was literally the only thing you can taste. Sure one can argue this is a preference thing, but that didn't ring sound, when, after explaining our disappointment to the service staff proceeded to explain to me that "truffle oil is strong", and that this "used white truffles" and it was "infused rather than mixed in". Bah humbug.
As a former restaurateur I'm well aware of how truffle oil tastes and how it can be used and I would argue that it's generally not used to overwhelm a dish to that extent, and if you intend to offer a dish that displays that level of truffle intensity you only need offer a warning to customers that order the dish so we can choose accordingly.
Their remedy was to give us two free deserts despite one ragu dish being returned to the kitchen hardly having been touched and the other from which only the pasta had been consumed. Blah.
Second time at the Muddy Duck, on Boxing Day for lunch. Great food and service and a great way to spend Boxing Day.
Excellent for our staff Christmas party.
Great food. Great service. Amazing value for money. A must visit
Fabulous pre Christmas family lunch, delicious and served
WIth fab hospitality
Unfortunately everyone in our party felt that the food let down a lovely setting and good service. There was a after taste to the ragu and ox cheek sauce that was not pleasant- had the stock been ‘caught’ or over reduced? It was a shame because we really wanted to love it (especially at the price) but we just didn’t. Sorry.
Very tasty food (so good that the price didn't matter), good service and warm (slightly hot and 'ungemutlich'), asked to move; then cosy. Acoustics requires some attention.
The service although very pleasant had been slow. The heating unit fan needed to be positioned outward rather than downward (it was a little uncomfortable). The food generous and delicious.
I can only recommend as I’m hoping this was an off day. A regular here for many years, the staff were great as usual but the food has deteriorated. My gravdlax had a bone and so did two out of the three fish main courses. Simply not good enough but as I said this is the first time a meal has been disappointing so I hope it isn’t a bad sign.
Very recommended für dinner
Service was very slow, the burger was luke warm, we did mention and the shared pudding was taken off our bill as a 'sorry'. It was meant to be an early anniversary lunch for us but we were left feeling disappointed. I did enjoy the ox cheeks they were delicious but the other bits let the Muddy duck down.
