The Muddy Duck - Hethe
Disappointed that the extensive menu had only one vegetarian dish, no choice.
Welcome by staff was great.
Shown promptly to our table, our waiter, explained all about the food and specials available, and was very pleasant and polite.
Only thing I found was that the game pie was rather dry although a pot of jus was provided and being baked I personally found the pastry hard.
All my guest were very impressed and all in all we thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
We certainly will be going to the Muddy Duck again soon.
Great food and really excellent service. The staff couldn't have been more attentive. I can't wait to go back.
I’ve wanted to come here for ages and finally got treated to a meal by my lovely mum. I was worried it wouldn’t live up to my expectations but it actually exceeded them!
The food was delicious with pretty decent portions but it was the staff that made it amazing. Our waiter was funny, knowledgeable and very friendly- a real asset to the restaurant.
We stopped off after a shopping trip to Bicester. The muddy duck is located in a beautiful village, easy to get to and food is good. We would probably sit in the pub next time as it was a little quiet in the restaurant (to be expected on a Wednesday afternoon). Worth a trip.
Waited a while to find the right night to book as they are often busy (popular). Really enjoyed the excellent food and will return.
Prompt service and a broad choice of dishes on the menu. Pleasant waitress who knew the food and could answer our questions. A nice atmosphere. Have eaten here in summer and winter and both inside and outside seating areas are lovely.
A tasty traditional Sunday roast enjoyed in a comfortable and friendly restaurant, we shall be back!
Amazing food, wonderful service and beautiful surroundings, very romantic.
Been several times before and they didn’t disappoint.
Amazing food and service from the waiter! Everything 5 star apart from our greeting as we were not from the local area we were unsure where to go and the barmaid wasn’t overly friendly or helpful upon arrival! Other than that I would highly recommend.
It was our anniversary dinner, the whole evening was lovely from the welcome from the friendly bar staff to the great waiting team and the food was wonderful. The seafood chowder and scallops from the specials menu were divine followed by a fabulous duck and chicken main course and finished with a delicious dessert. Will go again and take friends.
The restaurant and bar has a Great atmosphere and the food is good quality and good value .
Probably our fifth visit over a few years and always the same - fabulous staff, excellent food and relaxed atmosphere. Wish we lived closer.
As usual the muddy duck never fails to deliver on good food and friendly service. We had a very good birthday lunch for my daughter. Thank you all at the muddy duck
Great service very good food. Excellent pork crackling strips. And wonderful atmosphere. 2nd visit will be back for a 3rd soon
Very good atmosphere and good service. Quality of food excellent.
Lovely setting, great food and friendly service made our Sunday lunch a most enjoyable and relaxed affair.
One of our favourite restaurants....went there to celebrate my birthday.....Service fantastic as always, but felt menu was a little limited?
Delish lunch with family & friends today.. Roast beef sirloin and Slow roast pork belly were excellent. Cauliflower and broccoli cheese simply scrummy. Puds tempted us too.. All coupled with welcoming, attentive, knowledgeable staff make this a gem of a pub.. A real delight..
The restaurant had been recommended by a number of people, so we booked early - and were surprised when we arrived at 1 on a Saturday to discover that we were the only people there. Only three other tables filled up while we were there and, given that the food was very good and used local produce where possible, and the service was excellent, we were extremely surprised. We finally left our table at around 4pm - and were so pleased that nobody tried to rush us out the door. Overall, a very pleasant experience - and a jolly good meal! I would definitely recommend the Muddy Duck and it's delightfully quirky decor.
Great food, lovely place would highly recommend. The staff are really friendly and take care of your every wish. Think it is one of the best places in the Bicester area
Delightful meal - would return in a heartbeat. Thank you!
Love the muddy duck but personally don’t like the current menu. I thought the tapas / small plates idea in the summer didn’t work and this now feels like a half way house.
Superb setting though and the chef can definitely cook .. I just didn’t like the menu as much as I have in the past.
Lovely atmosphere and thankfully no Musak that so many places insist on these days- absolute bliss
Food was very nice but I have to take a point off as one of my two pieces of duck was a little tough and I had to leave it. The special of scallops as an entree were perfectly cooked however. Would go back.
Well knowledge staff and amazing variety of food on and off of the menu. Amazing dining and thoroughly recommended.
Great experience for our silver wedding anniversary!!! Staff were attentive, relaxed and very comfortable with advising us in the menu.
Staff very thoughtfully and unexpectedly brought some candles to the table when they found we were celebrating our anniversary.
Cliff and Kate
The food and surroundings are both excellent. I was disappointed that so many items on the menu were sold out. Our table was seated at 7.45pm on a Saturday evening so it seemed strange that even the olives were gone. The staff were friendly but seemed very rushed.
I will definitely visit again.
Truly amazing food and location I would recommend this location to everyone
Lovely Sunday roast, great staff service and very friendly. Would definitely recommend to anyone
Welcoming atmosphere, excellent attentive waitress, good food in a lovely location. Perfect for a wedding anniversary meal *
A fantastic experience. Excellent food and service!
We enjoyed a lovely meal at The Muddy Duck. The service was excellent and it is a very relaxed atmosphere, people tend to linger over their meals.
The food was very good, the only criticism is that the Thai seafood curry was lacking in some of the authentic Thai flavours.
Would highly recommend for an occasion or relaxed meal.
We've been to The Muddy Duck a number of times over the years and have had varying experiences there. It seems to be cyclical and this time it all felt pretty mediocre. The menu was limited and presented quite differently to previous visits. Unfortunately we won't hurry back as there are so many great venues locally.
We had a lovely meal out with friends at The Muddy Duck. We all had something different to eat and thoroughly enjoyed our meals! The puddings were presented beautifully - especially the pavlova. Clean plates all round! I had the cheese board with a goats cheese, blue cheese and brie with delicious frozen grapes, figs and chutney. Perfect.
The staff and service was friendly, prompt and relaxed. Will be going back and recommend to all. Thank you for a lovely evening.
The Muddy Duck is exceptional and we’d have no hesitation in recommending- our only regret is that it’s not closer to home. Beautiful restaurant and buzzing busy atmosphere. We went on one of those ridiculously hot 31+ degrees, summer days but the staff remained focused & cheerful and produced divine food - the corned beef hash is to die for! Enjoy!
We waited 45 minutes for out first course. No apology. Cappuccino was ok, but the water cress had died a day early. Ordered some some bread and that took twenty minutes. No butter supplied. A further wait of 30 minutes before the main course was served. I ordered the fish and chips. Chips had obvious;y been under a hot lamp for far too long. Dry and tasted like paper. Fish was Haddock. Batter was fine, but the fish was full of water. Obviously not properly defrosted before frying. My wife had the curry. The rice was fine, but the curry left much to be desired. Would we eat there again? No
I love the Muddy Duck having been there many times before and had an excellent experience every time.
Unfortunately this time we were disappointed. We attended 15:30 on a Sunday having booked a table in advance, two of the three roast choices and the only vegetarian option (without fish) were no longer available.
A couple of my party ordered chips which were over cooked.
We asked our waitress for more information about one of the desserts which she went away and came back with an answer. When the dessert arrived it was not as she described so we had to send it away.
Visited for my wife’s birthday, everything was excellent. Amazing food beautifully cooked, served with care & attention to detail. Everywhere was clean and we had an amazing evening.
Will be back and recommend highly.
The Muddy Duck is a wonderful venue with an excellent menu and great service!
