The Navigator’s traditional cooked breakfasts will more than whet the appetite as will the pub’s hugely popular seasonal lunch & dinner menus carefully created using locally sourced produce. A superb selection of real ales from nearby Upham Brewery are on offer alongside a fine choice of wines & champagnes.
The Navigator couldn’t be more accessible and is perfect for families, tourists and business travellers. The pub’s ‘Chart Room’ can accommodate 48 seated guests and proves hugely popular for weddings and business meetings.
A 20-minute drive from Southampton, 15 minutes from Southampton Airport and 2 miles from the M27 motorway, the pub also offers extensive free on-site parking.
Great Saturday evening, Great food and service. Will definitely go back.
Staff that were there were lovely and very polite, just not enough of them. The meals were okay, pizza was delicious but the gnocchi was slimey and oily.
Probably would not go back.
Good steaks and nice atmosphere on a wet and windy January evening. Sticky toffee pudding was excellent. Staff were friendly and good service.
Though the food was acceptable, the service was exceptionally poor. Having waited half an hour after finishing our main course and contemplating dessert, we decided to walk to the bar and settle our bill where we were once again ignored for several minutes. When going out for a meal I can accept average food but struggle to accept poor service. The other diners in our area of the restaurant also decided to go and pay their bill at the bar and we also over heard many ill advised discussions where the waiting staff had absolutely no idea of the menu, quote - “ I don’t have a clue how it is cooked I just serve the food”. It was like a scene from Ramsay’s kitchen nightmares!
Nice location, lovely food, a little slow on the service front.
A lovely Sunday roast. We had a 12:15 booking, so everything was really hot and freshly cooked. Good portion sizes. Prices quite high.
Service was good and attentive. Mix view on the food, fish & chips, fish was above good but the chips was not even up to standard... It was hard and burnt for some and undercook for others?! The starters was good portion size for whitebait and crab cakes, but could do with some extra seasoning?
Let’s hope breakfast will be a good surprise?!
Visited with work colleagues after lunch rush, so being busy was not an excuse..
Waitress didn’t know if there was a vegan menu. The same item appeared on set two course lunch as well as individually. Asked if this affected portion size, as set lunch was cheaper. Simply responded she didn’t know, no offer to check etc. so we guessed and went with set menu.
Being offered drinks when we all had full glasses. No meal checks, those that had desserts had them arrive, but two of three were wrong. Had them changed to crumble as ordered, and the apple crumble arrived in a dish with black speckles on the top of them. Understood why when it was eaten, as the ‘chef’ had blowtorches the crumble topping workout putting sugar on, so it didn’t caramelise anything it just burnt the crumble topping. Asked to change it back to the first dessert as only two choices.. heard the waitress talking to the ‘chef’ in the kitchen who shouted ‘are you kidding me’ when she told him we wanted to change back to the first dessert.. clearly not realising it was because he destroyed them.
When bill arrived it was wrong, queried the set menu pricing, and was told by another waitress that it wasn’t put through as a set menu.. advised that wasn’t our problem!
Great atmosphere, lovely decor and nice layout. Real potential, but if every day’s service is like that then we won’t be back in a hurry. Shame really - maybe staff (including kitchen) need some training or stronger leadership.
Went on a Monday night and it was quiet, but nice. Sat down for our meal and were asked what we wanted to drink. I asked for a drinks menu and they didnt have one - I thought this was pretty poor. It doesnt take much to give people a few drinks options - not everyone knows what they want and need to be enticed sometimes.
The online menu didnt match what the menu in the restyaurant said - ie we are vegan and the online menu lkisted a couple of items as vegan but when we got there, they werent. Nevertheless, we found things we wanted and placed our order. Twice the waitress came back to our table to apologise and say that they were out of what we had asked for.
We had a meal for 4 and 3 of the 4 meals we ordered, they didnt have. Not great really, is it? Why doesnt the kitchen advise the waiting staff at start of service, so they are informed of what is available, not wait until people order and then say they have none left.
They gave us 25% off bill without us asking as they were aware that we were disappointed, but still - a few small things could have made all the difference.
Moral of the story - dont go there on a Monday night!
I had the roast beef the whole meal was delicious, pudding to.
The venue and food was lovely! Service was good but was inattentive at times! It was really busy which is lovely to see but we had to ask to see the pudding menu twice, then was left for at least 20mins and still no one came to take our order, so we asked for the bill instead! Would 100% come back but either the staff need to be more observant and talk to each other on who needs served or they need more staff
Had a lovely lunch for two in the new area that was the conservatory. The renovation is lovely. The meal was great (we had two lovely pizzas). Excellent!
French onion soup - not seasoned!
Fish very small!
Fish pie - mainly mash potato ( main menu)
Suggest dont go for set menu
Shame - such a great location and nice place
Friendly staff, quick service. Friendly atmosphere. Good value for money menu
Excellent evening. Service was good, the waitresses were very friendly. We shared a starter which came after a short wait (enough time to warm up and start our drinks). Our main meals were excellent and very tasty, I’d definitely order mine again! Pud was delicious too!
Great place to eat, lovely food friendly staff lovely surroundings good value.
An enjoyable meal in attractively decorated surroundings. The only reason I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 is that the seafood sharing board lacked slices of lemon, and mayonnaise, which with crab, prawns and salmon make a lot of difference. These were however provided when requested. This is our second visit, and we will no doubt be returning in the future.
Lovely food, friendly staff, slight problem with a dessert which was sorted quickly. Had many meals here and will be back again soon. Might try a Sunday roast as the turkey dinner was so good with lovely crispy roast spuds.
Lovely food, great service, a bit loud but it's Christmas 🤗 Overall a really lovely place to go & good value too.
Despite a very busy lunchtime the staff were welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The Christmas Menu had plenty of choice including decent veggie options and for the price was of excellent quality. Will be going there again.
Very nice place
Absolutely awful. Rude to my children.
I’m still furious and considering returning to speak to the woman involved personally.
I will be telling anyone and everyone who will listen how vile the staff are.
Food lovely not amazing. Good service, price ok and great look and feel to the place. Overall I would recommend
Nice food, slow service.
Delicious meal. Recent refurb looks wonderful, relaxed and welcoming. Would recommend.
Properly great Sunday lunch. Quality meat, massive Yorkshire’s and the new decor is lovely. The team looked after us really well and it was very reasonably priced. Thank you
Excellent food and beer. G bc ace been many times and would recommend to anyone
We had a fantastic meal at the Navigator. Every course was perfect for each of our party of four. The ambience was fantastic, not too close to other diners to be intrusive and enough people around to make it ‘buzzing’
We all commented on how good the food was, and will definitely come again.
We had the most awful meal for my wife’s birthday she has been ill since . The food was worst than disgusting must be the worse we have ever had, the service was awful very disappointed .
This is my third visit to The Navigator in as many years. Since my last visit the restaurant has been "upgraded"; the layout seems more extensive and the menu has changed. It was undoubtedly busier than previous visits, but I had not previously been there on a Friday, and the noise level was unacceptable to my party; normal conversation was impossible. The service was extraordinarily slow considering the visible number of staff available - 20 minutes to be served with a straightforward drinks order (the only matter I specifically timed). We arrived just after 7 and left at 9.30 after having had two rounds of drinks and one main course each (I don't remember anyone having a starter or pudding). Everyone expressed their satisfaction with the food served.
One of the best Sunday roasts we have had in a long time.
Refurbishment of premises excellent
The room was very nice but cold
The food was good but my starter they left of part of it .
My mains they served me gravy instead of pepper sauce
Swift and polite service. Table games available so is a really nice place to go to for Sunday lunch with my 9year old sand play chess or ‘guess who’ while we wait and have high quality fresh food in a nice relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend
Easy booking system and good food once we received it but service was pretty slow and long 7.15 booked table for and didn’t get food till 8.45 ! Although food was good this disappointed us as we had young and older family members who actually were over hungry and it was a special birthday treat too. Nice menu though and nice staff.
The food was very good but slightly limited as I am a coeliac. The service was excellent and the staff very helpful with my gluten free choices.
Stayed at the navigator and had a meal in the restaurant food and service was very good we all enjoyed our meals , only thing was my husband as for no onions and it came with onions in his gravy . But they offered him a desert on the house .
Great lunch, very tasty food in a lovely atmosphere.
Good food, very quiet in restaurant
Managed to get a table on a busy Bamk Holiday Saturday night. The restaurant area was comfortable and had a good atmosphere.
Lovely setting, very relaxed atmosphere. The staff are the perfect balance of friendly and professional. Amazing food, at a good value for what you receive. All in all we had a fabulous night.
