Good food. Good drinks. Trying out best to support local during these trying times 👍🏻
A pleasant enough dining experience. Everything was fine. Nothing was particularly outstanding. Salads, apps, drinks... main courses... nothing that justified $250 for a party of four. We ate in the dining room in back. I didn't realize "Tavern menu" only available in front bar area, might have requested it if I had known. Seemed like more fun up there than in the back dining rooms...
My second visit and it was a horrible experience. I used a BOGO offer and I was told I had to buy a soda for the offer and I already had purchased two. The offer was for buy one entrée and get the other free of a value up to $25. We got two entrées and two tavern meals which are kind a like wings and fries and things like that the waiter comped it $12 of our meal from the tavern menu instead of competing the entrée that we ordered. The manager came over and did fix the bill. the waiter was very rude the food was under cooked and I will never step foot at the North House again and I will not be recommending future patrons
Everything was awesome! Love the atmosphere, food and wine!
Had a wonderful meal here a year a go so decided to bring my daughter this past weekend. We thought we were in for a home run after we started with the toasted Brussel sprouts. Perfectly cooked and seasoned and displayed. I ordered the salmon with quinoa and vegetables. Piece of salmon was 2”x2” (1/3 of last times portion). Quinoa was incredibly bitter and entire dish lacked flavor. I rarely complain, but after my daughter received her chicken undercooked along with 3 hairs in the potatoes, both entrees went back.
Our waiter and manger were incredibly professional and accommodating and offered to replace our entrees with something else.
I tried the house made sweet potato tortelli and my daughter got the lobster roll and fries. Ok, we ordered a summer meal in Feb. We had to wait for a very long time for the two new entrees to come out. Lobster roll was simply lobster on a harder roll with no condiment or seasoning ( except for vip of butter) and fries were cold and flat tasting.
My tortellini was a bit tough on the outside but filled with the yummiest slightly sweet, sweet potato filling. The best part of the meal by far. It was served with broccoli rabe that was overly bitter, then combined with browned hazelnuts ( equally as sour), the combo and textures just were not appetizing.
Had it not been for the wonderful staff the evening would have been a wash. Hoping it was just an off night or the spice rack was locked up.
Definitely willing to try it again but this meal was 80% disappointing. Grateful for the amazing brussel sprout appetizer which brought a hint of redemption to the evening.
Great food/atmosphere in this historic building. Only downside is the wait to be seated despite having a reservation. We waited over 30mins past our reservation time.
Appetizers and entrees were not served hot. They were lukewarm. Their prime rib special was 50% fat. The Beef Wellington tasted like store bought pie crust, not made from scratch. Very disappointing. I really wanted to love this place because of the ambience but can’t ignore the not so good meal.
Nice setting, beautiful old house, very romantic
Made reservations a week ahead for 8:15, when we came there were no available tables we were seated at 9. Food was not great. Burned fillet mignon and veal meat was full of fatty disgusting parts and a big bone not much to eat with very sweet sugary sauce.
This was a valentines special, really bad.
Dessert was good but again for the price they charge on food you expect at least good food.
We were here most recently for a Valentine’s Day dinner with my wife and 90yo mother. Despite arriving early for an 8pm reservation we waited almost 45 minutes for our table. Once we were seated we were told they had sold out of 2 of the items on the special VD menu. Clearly they had overbooked and underprepared for one of the busiest days in the business. Despite those issues we had a nice enough meal made better by superior table service from the waitstaff.
Great spot for Valentine’s Day. Seemed a little bit more chaotic than usual but the service was best we’ve had. And it’s always amazing!
Seats in the stable room were not available even though I made reservations 1 month in advance and again requested to sit there when checking in for dinner. Waited 30 mins to get 1 drink standing at the bar while waiting for a seat. Then got seated in the bar/tavern instead of the dining room. Seats were located immediately next to the door and hostess waiting area - people crowded around our table, leaning and bumping our table all night. Loud atmosphere. Food was ok - not what we expected as we ate there before. Service was completely understaffed, although our waitress was very nice and tried her best to accommodate her many tables. Finally went to pay using a gift card and was told by our waitress that the gift card was not properly activated when it was purchased, so it could not be used. Not a good valentine's day experience.
Went on Valentine's Day forgetting how crowded it can be. Only negative was that the bartender completely ignored us while trying to get a drink waiting for our table, but honestly she was one bartender and it was pretty nuts. Definitely don't blame her but they should have had more than one bartender working when they knew it would be super busy. Otherwise the food was excellent and our server was great.
Dinner on Valentines Day was wonderful. Service and food were excellent! Ambiance was cozy and although the restaurant was busy for the holiday, it was a very relaxed dining experience.
The North House was a wonderful place to celebrate Valentine’s Day!
Nice place for Valentine's Day dinner. It was packed, but we had been able to get a decent reservation. The food was well prepared. Loved the carmelized honey glaze on the lamb and asparagus. A rose for the ladies.
Service was excellent...Rack of lamb perfect
Great night out with customers. Good food.
Our dinner at the North House was very pleasant. We were seated almost immediately and our waiter Brendan was very good. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her spinach salad and the calamari was delicious. My entre was the braised short ribs and they were tasty. My wife ordered beef wellington and she was a bit disappointed in that the puff pastry was "saturated" with a strong mushroom flavor, a puff pastry that found itself on the side of her plate as an afterthought. We shared a carrot cake for dessert. It was highlighted on the restaurant's web page but the piece was so small that it too was an "after" thought. Very disappointing to finish the meal with a poor taste in our mouths. It was tasty but much too small for $9 plus a 21% tip, making the dessert $11. Desserts in most restaurants are far more generous! We drove up from Madison, Ct for this special dinner, but, hopefully, it will be better next time as we will definitely give it another opportunity to impress. Sincerely, The Cassidy's
As always, a wonderful experience! The meal, service and ambience cannot be bettered.
excellent service, food. but the big room was noisey , not romantic at all at least in that room.
We’ve been coming to NH for years - a favorite. Our last 3 visits have been extremely disappointing. I’m not sure what’s happened but food quality and service have taken a nose dive. Sadly, for us, 3 strikes. There are too many choices that are far superior.
We love The North House. The Forge Room is the best atmosphere for dining, especially in the winter with the huge fire going! The service is top notch and food is delicious. I am a vegetarian and they will prepare a wonderful risotto with vegetables that is outstanding! My husband loves Prime Rib night on Fridays and Saturdays. The historic building has lovely early American features. Thanks for saving it!
It’s been a while since we had visited due to a bad previous experience however I feel like they were redeemed with this one. We got Brussels to start, very good. My husband had pasta which the waitress suggested he add a protein and I think that was necessary as the meal would have been too small without it but my braised short rib portion was nice and the meal was delicious. Will be back!! Our waitress was really wonderful and made the experience fantastic!
Overall, our experience was completely rushed, certainly not a relaxing Friday evening dinner. While the food was good, the we were truly disappointed. Our server had us in and out in 50 mins—which included wine, appetizer, and entree. Entree arrived on top of appetizer. We split the pork belly (which was delicious and unique), but, no one offered us extra plates or a knife for it, so, we used bread plates. While there were wines on the dinner menu, we did not see the wine list I’d read about. As were we eating, the staff was taking the table cloths off the tables and blowing out candles. It was clear they were shutting down the room—if the staff knew that to be the case, why didn’t they ask to seat us in the bar area? Being the only ones in an empty room while the staff is lingering waiting for us to leave, we really didn’t feel like ordering dessert; we talked a bit longer, paid our bill, and rather gulped the end of our wine. Oddly, there was a lot of noise coming from the kitchen throughout our 50 minutes. Alas, the steak we ordered was delicious and a generous cut, cooked perfectly. Scallops were meaty and tasty, but the risotto was blah with a consistency more like white jasmine rice than Arborio—and how about something green on that plate?
My boyfriend took me here for my birthday last year and our anniversary on Saturday! I love the food and the atmosphere at the north house!
Excellent filet mignon. The salmon was very good. Very good wine list but they tend to be out of several bottles every time I try to order. Someone needs to restock the wines or redo the list.
We came on NYE for our anniversary. The food didn't disappoint. Duck crepes were delicious, and we had a wonderful server who could recommend a good wine with everything we ate. Beautiful desserts. Never pass up the flourless chocolate cake.. even if you feel like you can't fit it! Divine! We will return, despite the noisy evening (to be expected on this date). It was a packed house, and the staff were incredibly efficient.
Great time! Very lovely! Service was outstanding and the food wasn’t being rushed out, we got to enjoy the time and our company together. Definitely will go again.
The North House always delivers on all levels. This was NY’s Eve and we were seated within 10 minutes of our reservation time, our meal came out right away, and our food was outstanding. The North House is becoming our favorite go-to restaurant. We can’t wait to try the Pub.
We made a reservation for 2 for New Year's Eve, but were placed at a table in the bar area. It was so loud that we could not have a conversation. We dressed up for the occasion, but could have easily worn jeans to eat in the bar area. Service was okay (recognizing it was a busy night), but the food was mediocre. My husband had a seafood dish that was fine, but not worth the price. I chose the stuffed pork chop, which was tough and dry and barely edible. Overall, the evening was a very disappointing experience.
Dinner was excellent. Would definitely go there again. However not an abundance of menu choices.
One of our favorite restaurants in area. Disappointed they did not offer either a pub menu nor a children's menu for our 13 y/o. Of the people that did get dinners, food was excellent. Service was good.
Excellent experience. Would definitely come back and recommend.
I always have a good experience at the North House. We went out for an early New Year’s Eve dinner and the food and service was great as always.
It was for news years eve everything was amazing
We were sat by the hostess and then ignored for about ten minutes. Finally the waiter came over to get the drink order. Once that was placed we did not see the waiter till the drinks were ready to be brought to us. We had to ask if there were any specials for dinner which we were told no and he walked away. After ten minutes he came back to take out food order. My husband ordered a pasta dish and got a Dish with a ton of mushrooms about 10-15 pieces of pasta and the sauce. We have been here in the past with much better service and better meals. We usually have leftovers to bring home which we did not this trip. Don’t know what is going on with this place but I don’t know if we will be back or recommend to other people
We love the North House and recently discovered their Sunday brunch. We like to sit in the back near the fireplace - Service is phenomenal and the food terrific. Prices are slightly higher than elsewhere but the ambiance, service etc makes it a treat to go there. HIGHLY Recommend for special occasions
We loved the North House. Great food, service, and ambiance. We each had onion soup to start. Delicious! For our entrees my wife enjoyed a prime rib special and I had the Beef Wellington. Everything was perfectly cooked and once again delicious.
This was our first time at the North House. My wife and I are both hoping to return often!
Was the first time I was there. Great atmosphere, warm and cozy, very rustic. Order a rib eye and received a new york strip. It was good but not as good as a rib eye. Looking froward to going back.
