A particular favourite of our guests are our steaks which along with most of our meat come from our family butcher. (When we say family, we mean family. He is the owners brother-in-law!)

My family found the the meal was very well presented and tasty. My guest who opted for the vegan options was pleasantly surprised at the range offerd and was very pleased with her choices. The building is charming and the facilities very clean and tidy. Reception was quick and friendly and the only minor problem was that some of the pre lunch drinks were not in stock. That could have been because of a busy weekend or Saturday. We would very definitely book again when the opportunity arises. Thank you for your excellent service team.
I am so pleased I chose to book lunch at the Oak House Restaurant. We were meeting up with old friends who were going to be in Somerset for a few days. It was my first visit to your restaurant and all five of us were delighted with our meals. Quite delicious. Please thank the chef.
The service was extremely good and the waiting staff was so pleasant and helpful.
Love the look of the building and the Well in the dining room was really interesting (don't like your plastic beams though), my husband would have had them out in a flash (who did that!! they are horrid).
Never the less we are sure to return again when we are in the area. Thank you all for an excellent afternoon.
We both had rib eye steak and then the cheeseboard. The steak was cooked exactly how wr asked for it, rare, and had a great flavour. The cheeseboard was a really good balance of local cheeses and delicious. As my daughter does not drink red wine we had to large glasses of wine one red one white, both of excellent quality.
Roast dinner was lovely, sadly we were the only guests in the dining room, so lacked some ambience.
Good food, well presented. Lots of choice, vegetarian option was very tasty
A very tasty meal with excellent wine. I would recommend and will definitely visit again.
Thank you for your wonderful review. We hope to see you again soon!
Excellent meal. Well presented and really enjoyable
Nothing was too much trouble, the food was delicious and they have a great Gin selection.
Amazing mothers day experience. Fantastic live singer - never seen anyone so good at a restaurant and the volume was perfect.
Food and service was excellent, as was the food. The little village was lovely as well.
Lovely dinner in a very charming environment. We were staying at the hotel which was lovely too. Food is creative and nicely presented. The staff was also very attentive. We had a nice time.
The menu was attractive, and the food well cooked, service was friendly and efficient. Slight downside was that doors had been left open on an evening when there was a very cool breeze which led to our party feeling rather cold by the time the meal arrived.
Otherwise it was an enjoyable and the price at the upper end of the spectrum for local restaurants but so was the food!
Fabulous meal , wine and live jazz performance and lovely room.. We requested last minute a room with a bath (we moved into a house with only a shower in July) and this was met and really added to a chilled weekend
What a great place! The food was delicious, service outstanding and the staff were extremely friendly.
An old pub restaurant with a modern vibe!
Added bonus was a young chap called Sam playing a guitar and singing, not loudly but as a great background!
We went here as a birthday celebration and had afternoon tea. The sandwiches, scones and petite patisserie cakes were all homemade and tasted great. It was a cold and wet afternoon but inside was cosy with real fires. The inside has lovely decor but the place was very quiet as it was a weekday in November. The staff were friendly but we felt a bit alone in the restaurant as there was no-one else there and the staff were doing other things elsewhere. However, the food was good and we felt represented value for money and we will definitely go to the Oak House again for a meal in the evening.
Nice food, nice atmosphere the service was good but attentiveness of staff lacked, we had to keep asking for things, no one asked if we were happy. Better marketing would be helpful as I live in the next village and didn't really know anything about the oak house.
Four of us had an overnight stay with breakfast, and we also had an evening meal. the food was excellent, service was great, the manager also offered us marshmallows to toast on the fire. One of the staff at breakfast had a bit of a 'thing' about table seating which was disruptive and unnecessary, but apart from that everything was great. The bar was quiet, but we enjoyed that.
The rooms were 'bijou' and the bathrooms were quite small which detracted from the room. Also no covering over the wardrobe space, a roller blind would do the trick on that. There was great attention to detail with toiletries, robes and slippers and cafetiere with coffee and shortbread and pleasant decor. Could have done with a brighter main light in the bedroom.
The rooms are lovely but need a bit of tweaking to match the downstairs, the food was top notch, compliments to the chef. The hotel manager and bar staff excellent.
Disappointing this time - food definitely not up to the standards of previous visits. Got the impression of disorder behind the scenes.
Great food and service in the restaurant itself however we were left in the bar without a drink for at least 30 minutes and the place was very quiet. When i complained the barman said they were having a meltdown which didn't instill confidence and it then took them about 10 minutes to realise they had no pate for a starter even though the restaurant was nearly empty! We were given a complimentary drink in compensation.
Enjoyed the meal - good service, quite quiet but not an issue for us - incredibly helpful staff
My partner and I have been here many times, however i don't think we will be returning. Whilst the food was great as always the service wasn't up to standard. When we ordered the desert my partner requested the coffee with petit four's and although we reminded the waitress twice the coffee never came. We didn't bother asking a third time as there was no point as i had finished my desert. It ruined what could have been a nice experience. We were also disappointed that it seemed we were being looked after by 3 people and were asked on three separate occasions if the food was OK. whilst the attention to ensure customers are satisfied was great, the first time was enough.
Sunday lunch was fine until a large party arrived. Then the inevitable happened. All the attention of the serving staff was directed towards the large table and odd couples sitting here and there were ignored. It happens so often in restaurants and it happened here. Pity because in general the dining experience was good.
We were very pleased with all aspects of the hotel. The food was very good, both dinner and breakfast. Best scrambled egg ever!
4 of us had lunch last week. Food was excellent as was the service and drinks - beer and white wine. Menu items were clearly marked as gluten free, vegetarian, etc. Price was reasonable and we would eat there again. Recommend it.
This place was brilliant. Staff was attentive yet not invasive. Great value for money. I would highly recommend the oak house.
Booked for anniversary as we went to this venue on our first date 32 years ago. Arrived 30min early to have a pre dinner drink, one customer in bar ahead of us, took a full 10mins to be served, but atmosphere was good so didn't mind.
Food was superb and plenty of it, service was excellent in restaurant.
Summary: We would certainly book this place again despite initial hiccup with bar staff.
excellent dinner with great menu, superb dining room and service, polite and attentive but not intrusive
Food was at best average, service poor, cost high.
Tried tapas which were lovely although could have been Spanish! Local real ale is a winner. Will definitely go back
Very good meal and good value - definitely would go back again
Everything about this restaurant was perfect. The food is excellent, the belly of pork melted in your mouth. We cannot wait for the next visit!
Have always booked at the Oakhouse whebever they have availability, never disappointed with food. Very accommodating, warm atmosphere.
My wife and I ate here for the first time and were amazed at how good an experience it was. The decor is lovely inside with a very intimate seating arrangement. The service was perfect and the food itself was excellent - all in all a great night and we shall be returning!
What a lovely evening we had, despite knowing nothing of the Oak House and not really reading any reviews we opted to share a family meal together.
The ambiance (despite being valentine's weekend) was warm and relaxing and the customers were all ages which added positively to the experience.
The menu was varied to suit all tastes and budgets and the food was first class - better than we had anticipated.
The service was professional and friendly in a very comfortable dining room. This was enhanced by the musician who gave a top performance but at an appropriate level that you could still converse!
One to return to for definite!
