The Oak Tree Inn
This is the second time I have visited the Oak Tree Inn, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The welcome given to my collie/lab dog was genuine, and the service exemplary.
Very average, nut roast was good, the roast beef too tough to eat (left most of it).
Good food, good service, nice and laid back atmosphere.
Had a prawn sandwich. For £6.95 I was expecting soft chunky white bread, large prawns. It was quite the opposite..bread was dry. Prawns were tiny and very dry-hardly any Marie-rose sauce in it. Very disappointing. On the other hand, coffee was excellent!
Very good steaks being steak night and good value
House red was very acceptable
Lovely setting, nice ambience, great food and good service. No complaints at all, but coming from London we have yet to find the value-for-money that a more rural location suggests.
We love it here. The food is always delicious and we always have a fantastic evening.
We were actually a little disappointed with our meals having enjoyed one recently, and felt they were not the usual standard. Personally the fishcake lacked any seasoning and as a resullt was tasteless. My son had the steak which although cooked to his liking, was quite fatty and not as good as a rump steak which he has previously really enjoyed at your inn.
We chose not to have a dessert after being a bit let down by our starter/main course. Not sure we will hurry back as the quality of pubs around us is so high.
Excellent as usual
Food hot and tasty
Staff friendly but not intrusive
Would definitely recommend ~ lovely food, service and atmosphere! Love Tuesday for Burger Night with drink included for £9.95 ~ such good value!! Early Bird menu very good too! Will keep returning and recommending!
Generally as good as usual, but disappointing that the meat quality in the steak pies was not as good as previously, especially significant as we recommended them to our friends. However we will return.
I am not from York but had heard really good things from my boyfriend who is so we decided to go for some Sunday lunch! The service was a little disappointing to say the least - the staff were quite miserable and the food did take longer than I would expect for a starter and Sunday roast - it was about 2 hours!
The food when it did finally arrive was very good!
a very nice evening. Surprised at how empty restaurant was on a Saturday night
Disappointing experience. Very noisy family with badly behaved children.
Moved near open fire for tea only to experience very loud music blasting from the bar. Asked for it to be turned down which did happen but only by a few decibels.
May need a while to recover before returning.
Good food but prawn cocktail served in high goblets which are difficult to eat from
I have already sent an email about the staffing. Nothing wrong with the service, except not a smile, a thank you or even a welcome nice to see you.
Enjoyed our visit for Sunday lunch. Christmas decorations a little dreary especially in restaurant
We have been to the restaurant three years ago, have to say it wasn’t as good this time. Nothing in particular just everything was just OK.
Very disappointed with the standard of food and service. Kept waiting way too long especially as for at least an hour there were only 5 people dining!
Lovely food , nice portion so you can enjoy all 3 courses!
Enjoyed sampling the Game menu .
Whilst the food was good the service was slow.We sat for over half an hour at an empty table before we were asked if we would like a drink. They clearly did not have enough staff to service the customers they had accepted bookings for.
All good. Restaurant & bar very noisy (no carpets) even though not too busy. Seating in bar area poor & inadequate
We were looked after from the moment we arrived. Lovely rooms with character, only downside was that they do seem to get very warm. Food in the restaurant was fantastic, best steaks I have had. Staff very polite and nothing too much trouble.
Highly recommend for Sunday lunch. Excellent food/menu and great value. Thanks.
Great steak meal with wine for 2. Super value. Good staff
Surprised by how good it was after reading a few Trip Advisor reviews. Efficient 'book in' and friendly helpful staff. Mean good quality and not too pricey. All in all a good find. I would go again!
We booked a table for 5.30 as we were going to a concert in the village and thought two hours would be ample time for supper. Arrived in restaurant and was ignored. Tried getting service at bar - ignored again. Fortunately another customer pointed out that I should be served before him.
Seated at a good sized table, and complimentary bread arrived after about fifteen minutes. At 6.35 we asked the waitress when our main (and only) course might arrive as time was running out. Almost instantly, our two meals appeared. The food was actually pretty tasty, but from the appearance and texture of my queenies and sweet potato fries it was pretty clear that my meal had been sitting on the pass for a good long while. Overcooking any sort of scallop is about the only way to spoil them - so congratulations!
At no point were we asked whether we needed anything, or would like another drink. When the option arose for dessert or coffee, my husband’s response to me was that he could not wait to get out of there. Our waitress apologised repeatedly for the non-arrival of the food but less with her heart and more with an eye on tripadvisor, I fear.
The previous night we had dined and stayed at The Bruce Arms in Masham. No pretention, no sophistication, just an ordinary village pub. But all the staff there were warm and professional: they really cared about our experience and we left with a warm glow of having been truly welcome. The Oak Tree Inn needs to stand in the shoes of its customers, and learn some lessons.
Loverly place, food could of been better lacked seasoning and packet apple sauce was a let down. The little things make a big difference
Lovely meal, good service and ambience - definitely recommended
Good to take our friends from Portugal. Gin options very good
We found the oak tree to be disappointing. My prawn cocktail starter was made with very small cheap prawns and my desert was burnt and virtually inedible (though my 3 year old managed!). Part way through lunch music began blaring out from the bar area which was separated off by a screen, and we realised the music was using the ‘F’ and ‘N’ words- just what you want during a lunch with small children! Will not be returning
Super food in lovely surroundings with very attentive staff.
The food was good but the service took an hour for a single course. overall very good and we will visit again
We went for Sunday lunch. Very busy as it was Easter Sunday. excellent service and a very nice meal with plenty of choice. Would go again
Nice atmosphere and the staff were very good and the food was excellent. We will definitely be returning 👍
Third time at this lovely hotel, drink, food and service first class.
Thursday night is a very good value steak night. Two steak dinners and decent bottle of red. £30. Great value. Good food.
Excellent food well presented. We visited for valentines and the place was busy but we still had excellent service. When in the area we also visited on a Thursday and the special steak night deal was great value
The atmosphere was nice, it was extremely pleasant especially inside next to the fire. The waitress in the green top was pleasant, attractive with beautiful eyes and was always helpful and always had a smile on her face.
Attentive service and great food. Couldn't ask for more
Great ambiance with open fires. The Landlady was an amazing host and the food was 5/5
