As my husband has a number of dietary issues I rang the hotel and requested a menu for the evening we were visiting. This was sent through immediately and we selected suitable dishes and forwarded via email with requests for certain ingredients to be omitted.
We enjoyed a lovely evening in great surroundings with great food, with everything just as we requested.
Fully recommended.

This was the 2nd time we have had a business lunch here and once again it was impressive.
The venue is stunning, food amazing and staff helpful and engaging. I will look forward to my next visit and plan to take my family as well as using the venue for business lunches.

The food was excellent. The Market Menu is very good value.

I simply cannot fault The Oaksmere, we've been a few times now but this was the first time we'd had the Sunday roast, absolutely scrummy and at £20/head for two courses, excellent value. Helpful courteous staff and a lovely ambiance, what better way to pass a Sunday lunchtime.

The food was ok, but lacked that wow, that one is looking for when paying these prices. Similarly the service was a bit laid back, slow and unprofessional for such a lovely venue.

It’s a lovely place and the service could not be faulted. Sadly the food was a big let down for us. The steak had sat way to long under warming lamps so was served completely dried out. The starters were great. This was our experience on the night.

Chose the Oaksmere for my husbands birthday lunch.. though the food was quite good we found the service slightly lacking. The cutlery was not very clean and the floor had crumbs on it.
One of the specials was off the menu , we were informed of this when we were shown to our table.
My husband ordered the Blythburg pork only to be told there was none!
We will not be returning

The Oaksmere dining space has a modern, boutique, European feel to it.
The service has got much better since the new management team took over
The new chef has made a huge difference to consistently producing very good food.
All the meat is local, well hung and you can see the beef hanging.
A great place for a casual or a special meal out

Only visited for lunch..Food was good and service reasonable.

But why all the high seats and tables. Fine for perching but not as relaxing as a table.
Would have eaten in the restuarant but it was empty and had no atmosphere.

We had a superb Sunday lunch, food absolutely fantastic. Only negative, and it was a big one, was the pre lunch drinks in the bar. The barman was rude and did not know how to serve drinks! A G&t with the whole tonic poured by him without asking, orange wedges added without asking and a sparkling water served in a hot glass!

The venue was stunning and the service was good. Although they did not ask how the food was after we had started eating or I would have let them know? Unfortunately my meal was very disappointing. I ordered the burger, as I didn’t really feel like anything else on the menu. The actual burger patty was hard, which I assume is from overcooking. I wish I choosen the fillet, as my partners meal was amazing. We drove half an hour to get to the restaurant and I don’t think I would bother again.

I feel that an evening of my life was wasted going here on this occasion so yes I will review! Firstly nobody around to greet us, had to wander about before someone appeared. No offer to take my coat, very poor show for this kind of establishment! Then dined in a smoke filled restaurant where smoke was not going up the chimney of the wood burner you could see it drifting out, so much that my hair and clothing smelled like I’d been to a bonfire! My eyes were stinging. We complained and were told this happens often and was to do with the kitchen fans drawing the smoke through so you think why keep lighting it then if you can’t sort it! Starter of beetroot risotto was the best bit, very nice. Mediocre fillet, felt the effort and skill not really in the dish, had much better. And finally the most comical yet disappointing dessert I’ve ever had. A banana wrapped in pastry, completely tasteless! Dry granola alongside a bland, pale sausage looking thing that looked like your child had rolled it up in play doh! How it made it onto the menu I do not know!! I have been before two or three times with my family in last 12 months and really enjoyed it so was very very disappointed :( at least it was only the two of us this time thank goodness!

Dinner was ok, I stood waiting to be seated for almost 5 minutes before anyone noticed I was there. I was then served bread before my guest arrived rather than waiting. Asked if I wanted to choose for my guest, erm no, maybe just wait! Starter portion was very small but yet main course of risotto was sizeable. To the point I couldn’t finish it. It was a bit soupy in texture and didn’t have the texture of a traditional risotto in my opinion, anyway. I had lunch there a couple of months ago and the service and food was far better then. It is a beautiful venue which has had a lot of investment. The service could be better and why read out 3/4 special options and expect people (and the staff evidently!) to remember, perhaps a printed sheet would help all concerned.

First visit to this restaurant and I'm sure it won't be our last! Service and food were both excellent. None of our party of seven had a starter, there was a good choice of mains although the vegetarian option was limited to a couple of choices, however, the risotto that was chosen was delicious. The deserts were lovely as was the tea/coffee and petite fours!
Staff were attentive without being over fussy which was perfect.

The Oaksmere is a beautiful building, quite tastefully restored set in lovely gardens. I wish it was better as it could be a local gem and I would love to go there for special occasions. It's let down by customer service and unremarkable food. There was no barman, then he appeared and slowly served four people, then he disappeared while pouring my husband's pint. My husband pointed out it was flat and the barman said yeah, it's not on draft so I had to pour it from a bottle. No apology. It was pretty empty - I've been here before when they've forgotten food: it's like you don't exist, or you're just getting in the way of some other mysterious thing they're doing. The restaurant was empty playing boring pop songs. Waiters were very polite, efficient and pleasant - I had no problem tipping them. Our food - I had monkfish, my husband had lamb - was bland and expensive, £20 a head. It was just really disappointing and ended up with the wine and bland pudding costing us nearly £100. And it was our 20th wedding anniversary. I review hotels for a living (which is why I never usually write reviews online) and I feel customer relationships make all the difference between a good and disappointing experience, although good food would help (maybe if we'd ordered burgers we'd be happier). If staff were a bit more genuine and friendly, you could forgive everything else. I don't think it's their fault, it's usually poor management or they're being paid really badly and not respected. The attitude of the staff always comes from the top. It's very snotty for what it is: lots of money but no sense. I prefer The Queen's Head in Eye - it's honest, good value and much better food.
