About

The Old Manor is an independent and stylish restaurant with a separate bar set amongst the Tudor beams of a stunning 500 year old building in Potters Bar.

We do a wide range of fresh home cooked food. Be it the slow roast belly of pork with crispy crackling, barbecue ribs, gourmet Angus burger, crispy Chinese beef or the baked Plaice in a homemade pesto and herb crust, all of our dishes have added to our reputation. With a decent wine list and a range of well kept cask ales, all served at reasonable prices, this has been our recipe for success over the last ten years.

The parking is easy and the customers and staff here are very friendly. With the Wyllyotts Theatre just across the road it's an ideal place for a pre-show meal or an after show drink.

In the bar at weekends there is music and dancing until the early hours with the music coming from today's artistes stretching all the way back to the sixties.

Open all day, every day.

The staff were very accommodating to our needs. Our orders were taken efficiently, slight variations to the menu were accepted with no qualms. The meal was nicely presented, hot and cooked perfectly. Although the restaurant was busy we had full attention of the staff and on no occasion hurried. An excellent experience throughout.

Often book the Old Manor for a pre theatre meal. The booked table was ready and set for us when we arrived before our allotted time. Greeted warmly and shown to the table. The restaurant was busy, despite that the service was excellent and attentive. The food was very good, we had selected from both starter and mains and were pleased with both courses. Previously we had to call out for coffees but even this was offered promptly and at the appropriate time. Excellent evening all round and well worth the drive.

Ambience great. Food has improved(Sunday lunch)/service was quick, accomadating. On the whole good. The only flaw there was kiddies party above and food was coming down the gaps. No fault of the restaurant!

We have visited mid week on numerous occasions and always enjoyed the experience and food. This time we booked for a Sunday as we were going to the theatre near by. The starters were very good and we opted for the Sunday roast of Top side of beef. Sadly, this was not up to our expectations. The beef was tasteless and appeared to have been broiled rather than roasted, though I must add it was plentiful. The French beans were hard and unappetising. They were completely drained of colour and tasteless. The meal needed a good vibrant colour to it that was not given by the carrot or puree. In all, a little disappointing and we will stick to the weekly menu in future. Staff as always were attentive, but strangely you always have to ask for coffee as it has never been freely offered.

Very disappointed in the quality of food. This used to be my favourite place to eat Sunday lunch but would never eat there again. The beef was so dry and the Yorkshire pudding was flat and burnt. I don’t eat gravy but had to request extra gravy just to be able to swallow the beef. We dined at 6:45 and were told that the chicken roast and 4 of the desserts were not available. Paying £90 for four people to have a Roast and three desserts of this quality is not acceptable. Will not be dining there again!!

Food was very good, had Sunday roast for 3 people. Service not very good, long waiting times, difficult to get waiting staff attention, left a bit too long between courses. Other customers complaining to waiting staff about portion sizes and delay. Waiting staff were literally running around, not their fault, the management need to consider more staff for busy Sundays where booking is essential.

Unfortunately, the restaurant was short staffed.
Drinks took ages to arrive.
My cracked new potatoes were burnt and hidden under the meat,
They replaced it with mashed pototoes.

Food took quitea long time to arrive. Thewaiting staff were rushed off their feet.

Not as goodas usual.

The Old Manor always produces good food. Whenever we have been for a 'special occasion' they have always come up to expectation. However, on busy Friday & Saturday evenings if you are there for a pre-theatre meal it can sometimes be a bit fraught and we have never managed 3 courses as time always defeats us. A lot of waiting time it seemed between starter and main courses, BUT the place was VERY busy. Keep up the good work.

Came for Sunday dinner, last time we came the lamb was a little bit tough this time the lamb was so hard to cut and very fatty not nice at all. I don’t know if they have changed supplier or are just over cooking the lamb but it has not been nice the past two weeks.
Hopefully it will be of a better standard the next time we eat there.
Also they have changed the plates so everything is on top of each other before it was nicely spaced out on the plate so you could see what you were eating.

The service was very poor during our visit. It took half an hour before anyone came to take our drinks orders and then a further half an hour for drinks to arrive (and some were missing!). The food took over an hour to arrive once ordered despite the restaurant not being busy and two people in the party of ten received the wrong pies with their meals. The staff also were very rude and slow to offer help.
Having visited the Manor numerous times before and never having any problems, we were all very disappointed with this visit.

I rated the OlD Manor average as I had received an e mail saying the menu had been updated and we should try it out, however, the menu is limited and I would suggest that they have ‘specials’ and also small ladies steak.
