The staff and restaurant were very good whilst maintaining the COVID rules.
Under the circumstances it was a lovely evening with great food
The staff were very pleasant, professional and helpful, while the food was really well presented and delicious. We were by far the youngest there and I'm in my early 40s, but overall I'd recommend for the foot, service and location.
Just a perfect meal each time with a good overrall menu
chocolate and hazelnut tart is delicious 😋
all meals are nice and hot. fantastic !!
Delicious food, great service, happy waiters.
We treated ourselves to a weekend away and meal we experienced at this restaurant was top class.
Lovely food, great service, beautiful setting without feeling overly formal, thank you
We had a fantastic meal for our anniversary. Obviously due to Covid restrictions the service was a bit slower than usual, but the food was excellent.
This is a lovely restaurant in a beautiful setting that serves very good food. The menu is small as you would expect at a good quality restaurant with attention to seasonal produce. Obviously things are a bit odd at the moment with Covid19, the lack of tableclothes impacted on the ambiance but is totally understandable and did not seem to impact negatively on the noise levels. The staff were all very friendly but unfortunately the service was very slow. We had a 7.30 table and were seated with menus and the offer of table water prompty, but it took us until 8.00 to get a glass of wine having asked twice for the wine list. Not sure if this was linked to not having enough wine lists available but this really needs to be sorted especially as there is a fixed service charge.
The rest of the meal went smootly and the food was very good.
From start to finish a great experience, Staff were attentive and friendly, the food was excellent Sea bass with shellfish risotto was outstanding. We shall return. Thank you
Really delicious food and helpful staff despite COVID restrictions. Lovely setting when the sun is shinning.
I ordered a rib eye steak cooked medium rare. However, it arrived more well done. The waitress happily got me a new one cooked to perfection! Fantastic service.
Beautiful surroundings and the Orangery was great for a romantic dinner for 2. Thank you!
Lovely building and walking through to the Orangery, then felt a bit of a disappointment. The tables were not covered in tablecloths so were just pine tables. It looked a bit rustic which doesn't really fit with the ambiance. The food was excellant as was the service but I think the fact that I felt I was eating at a pub table let it down for me. I am guessing this could be due to restrictions. The touch with the pudding and writing Happy Anniversary in chocolate was a lovely touch
Love Powedermills we was due to have our wedding there in Early August but cancelled due to Covid. Events staff was so flexile about re-arranging and a pleasure to deal with in such uncertain times.
Decided to have a lunch date there and food was beautiful, staff was lovely and one waitress in particular Sue, was so friendly calm and professional.
Will be going back throughout the year.
bit disappointed by the vegan option which felt like it hadn't really been thought about in advance despite it being on the booking. The risotto offered up wasnt risotto rice for example
Delay of about ten minutes being shown to table - even though only half of the tables in use. A further twenty minutes until the order was taken and a further 20 minutes until the first course served. Waited what seemed an age for the table to be cleared, 20 minutes, and then the main course was served. My daughters burger was virtually raw, leading to her meal being sent back. Another twenty minutes passed before the replacement appeared, that also undercooked. My daughter ate virtually nothing, my wife similarly put off left much of her meal too. My meal was perfectly adequate, but it's never acceptable to eat courses in relays while the restaurant serves meals at its own pace, which throughout was dreadfully slow. This used to be a premier location locally, but on this performance is now surpassed by even the Conquerors March, one of the mass market Marston Inn chain. The restaurant was not busy, just badly managed with inattentive staff. There appeared to be a bottle neck in the kitchen which needs to be quickly addressed. Very disappointed and will not return.
We had a lovely lunch. We enjoyed good food and service and we felt very safe in respect of Covid 19 safeguards.
Staff had stains in clothes and scruffy. Had to get up to go and find someone for a drinks menu- given a wine only menu so didn’t think you could have beer or spirits but saw it on other tables so no opportunity to buy anything other than wine. No one asked how the food was although I understand if this is protocol to diminish customer contact.
Food was absolutely delicious.
Would return due to the food but only when there’s a deal since the service makes the whole experience. You don’t have to buy anything for trained staff, just train them better. Basic stuff really and a shame.
Food and service was excellent- thank you, just as we expected.
The food was excellent as was the ambience of the restaurant.
The staff could not be more helpful and pleasant.
A welcome reception upon arrival, perfect timing for each dish, beautiful presentation of the food, I love the audacity of combining flavours .
Pleasant surroundings and managing post-Covid dining well and felt safe
Had vegetarian options which was good
Overall a good experience
Beautifully presented food that equally tastes delicious. The goat’s cheese mousse starter with artichoke was inspired as it was super fresh and zingy. The sirloin & lamb were both perfect and the triple cooked chips were to die for. Service was at its usual standard which is high, they’re all so friendly at PowderMills, great team work. We will be back.
Very tasty afternoon tea in beautiful quiet surroundings very good value for money.
I would happily recommend dinner at the Powdermillls Hotel. The setting is delightful, the menu is extremely good, particularly the Vegan choice, with the option for people to swap between the two for those that can't resist some of the less usual offerings to vegetarians/vegans. The wine list was satisfactory, a little disappointing there was no local varieties on offer, with a number of very good vineyards in the area, also the English Wine Centre not too far away, it seemed remiss not to include one or two options. Although we live very locally, we had not used the restaurant before, and unfortunately we dined amidst the current pandemic, so there were not many people there, which meant the atmosphere was not very exciting. However, the staff were charming and the food delicious!
The occasion - my partner's birthday.
The venue - The Orangery Restaurant at the Powdermills Hotel, Battle.
The food - OUTSTANDING!
Despite the restaurant being quiet (partly due to it being a Monday, and partly due to the Covid-19 scare), the food was tip-top, and the service perfect.
I started with the wild garlic soup, followed with the slow roasted sirloin - melt in the mouth.
My partner had the garlic mushrooms with wild mushroom brioche and mushroom puree, followed by the sea bass. So beautifully cooked.
All in all, a superb evening.
Lovely gardens and very picturesque. We were made very welcome by all staff we encountered. The menu was varied and delicious.
Lovely dated beautiful place
We only was there ourselves lady was excellent who made us feel very welcome! She was good at her job’
The only thing negative tomato soup too concentrated - the beef too tough
Very expensive what we had too!
But we was made very welcome and overall the place clean spotless
Unfortunately when we went for an 80th birthday luncheon we were the only people in the restaurant which was a pity but the food and service was very good.
The £12.50 starter of scallops was far too expensive, tiny scallops , far too much decorative greenery and leaves on plates, roast beef pleasant
We had a fabulous relaxed lunch in beautiful surroundings. We couldn’t fault the food. We will definitely visit again
Disappointing food was below its usual standards, had to ask again for my drink, and they forgot to bring out vegetables with our roast, which was Barely warm, will go back again and hope it was a one off as it’s a lovely place usually.
We were treated like royalty and the food was sensational. We were particularly impressed with the way the chef catered for one of us who is lactose intolerant, and produced a full delicious desert which is so unusual and hard to find.
It was my 86 year old mum‘s birthday and she had a wonderful time. It quiet and relaxed so that we could talk without any trouble hearing each other. We also adore the spectacular peacock who appeared at the window several times! This is a beautiful place with grounds to explore as well - well worth a visit to step off the world for a while!
This is the 3rd time I have eaten here, food always very good. We did find this time the room was quite chilly, and wasn’t very busy, in such a big space this can feel odd.
Food was adequate for the prices charged but went cold very quickly once delivered to the table.
Waiter spilled red wine on the table cloth when pouring but failed to apologize.
We were there on a fairly quiet evening and therefore a lack of ambience otherwise a very attractive restaurant.
Lovely lunch in a great setting!
Very accommodating as we were late arriving. Lovely food and service. We will return.
The food was very good but the service was poor. I had specified beforehand that this was a birthday lunch I had also requested a birthday dessert non of this happened. Because the service was so bad we did not stop for a coffee or anything else. Would suggest that this hotel employs more than one person to deal with clients.
Food fine, but all the flies and left over bread etc on the floor was unbelievable, you need a cleaner.
A lovely chilled lunch with a friend in great surroundings.
Beautiful setting. The food is a limited menu but better for that as all the food we had was very good. The service was very very good, friendly but discrete and always attentive.
