Live at The Wellesley, takes place from 8:30pm on Friday and Saturday evening.
Brilliant staff, delicious food, beautiful and cosy setting
Beautiful setting and attentive service. The food was excellent and wine list exceptional.
Had the set lunch which was superb. Everything, from the bread right through all three courses was absolutely delicious. Staff were excellent. We will definitely return.
Couldn’t fault the hotel or meal from start to finish . Wonderful experience
Beautiful and opulent setting. Feels cosy as small room/s. Attentive service. Had five course vegetarian tasting menu including glass of Champagne. Most courses delicious. Pudding a disappointment (gooey pudding wasn’t gooey enough) and some of biscuits at the end were so hard as to be inedible. Overall wonderful and would recommend.
Elegant, opulent, cooked well, not unconventional. Very liberal use of heavy cream in desserts!
Overall score based on the food 8.5/10
Nothing amiss. All done very well. Nothing special, or different, or interesting though. Elegant, simple, nothing unconventional.
A very opulent atmosphere, with staff who were very formal, and needed a little time to warm up and be friendlier. Perhaps due to the setting in the Wellesley? I always prefer a more human interaction. Very helpful, accommodating and proper in interactions and attention to the table. The table arrangement does not seem to be ideal though, as it was awkward to place plates in the middle seats in a larger table (5+).
Starters and pasta outstanding. Mains were disappointing in comparison. Pudding made for a great finish.
After a good lunch, as we have had several times before at this restaurant, it took about 20 minutes to bring us the bill.
I had mentioned when booking, as you recommend, that we wished to use a Dining Cheque in part payment. After a further 5 minutes, we were told that they would not accept the Dining Cheque. We should have been informed either by email, or upon arrival that this was the restaurant’s position.
We feel that you should bring this lack of communication to the management’s attention, to ensure that other guests are not embarrassed in future.
We look forward to hearing your comments, as there is not much point to your reward points, if we find it difficult to use the reward.
Another good meal at the Wellesley. Food is of a high quality, lovely intimate dining room and excellent service. Special offer set menu is good value. Wine is expensive (min. £10 a glass/£30 a bottle) but even the house variety is decent. One slightly off note this time was the smell of cigar smoke. Not sure if there is a cigar lounge on the ground floor, but there was a definite and fairly strong smell of cigar smoke for the entire meal, which wasn't nice.
Refined Italian dining in an intimate space. Not cheap, when you factor in wine, but a nice experience and will likely return.
The whole experience was excellent
Only negative was trying to find the place it was not obvious that the restaurant was within a hotel
Superb room not too big and true to its oval name. Excellent food which was beautifully presented and delicious. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable and the service after our meal was brilliant. They brought out a lovely birthday platter for us on their own accord and the handmade biscuits with the coffee were to die for. All in all a memorable lunch.
Great food and service. We had the 5 course tasting menu with wine flight. The lamb was much better than the cod but apart from that it was amazing!
Excellent food, service and venue.
Fabulous food. Beautiful surroundings. Our regular.
It was my birthday and brought along my 12 year old daughter as my date. We had the best night of our lives. everything was spectacular.
The food and the staff were amazing! The restaurant and hotel they are beautiful
Food and service were both great but the jazz band that were playing kept taking breaks and sitting on the table next to us, the singer kept blowing her nose during our meal which was very off putting. Disappointing as this was a treat from my partner before our baby makes an appearance! Shame our experience was tarnished.
Great location for a quiet dinner with friends we hadn't seen for ages. Very elegant small dining with the jazz lounge opposite. We were all on the set menu. Just gorgeous. Starters were all fabulous. Main courses all excellent except the veal which was very good - but not quite mindblowingly so. Free glass of champagne was Veuve de Clicquot.
At dessert things dropped slightly from the five stars due to the service becoming slow (our friends with jet leg were falling asleep) and a Rhum au Baba that was just not Rhum au Baba.
So like a lot of italian restaurants - enjoy the starter and main - don't expect too much on dessert (but you might get lucky). We had the same experience at Amaretto at The Four Seasson.
Our friend (from Paris) - just left her dessert ("thats a joke Baba au Rhum" she said... ).
I'm sure the ice cream would have been delicious!!
But all in all - just great location and ambience. Quiet, elegant, excellent food and service. We really enjoyed the evening.
4 of us attended The Oval Restaurant in order to celebrate my birthday and we opted for the 5 course taster menu for £65 each (incl. a glass of champagne).
We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal, with the exception of 1 course. 2 of the group opted for the cod dish as a main, which was found to be lacking a little in flavour. Thankfully I opted for the roast loin of lamb, which was utterly delicious.
A nice touch at the end was a small extra dessert that had been decorated with Happy Birthday for me.
All in all, both food and wine were excellent with one small slip. Not cheap at more than £400 all in but acceptable given that everyone had a wonderful time.
First time visitor - would definitely return. Great food and friendly service. This is a gem tucked away in Knightsbridge. .
Excellent ambiance, food and service.
It was ok not amazing but expensive, the service was ok too they kept ignoring us for long periods of time
Angelo was very accommodating and made sure my request has followed through with attention to detail. The chef must be complimented on what was a sensational experience, truly a wonderful evening.
Excellent meal and service from the staff at the restaurant and starting with cocktails in the bar.
I met my 3 sisters here for one of our regular Saturday lunch get togethers. We had the Open Table offer of a 5 course tasting menu with a glass of champagne. The hotel entrance to the restaurant is not impressive but once inside there is much to admire. The restaurant itself is small, beautiful and luxurious. The food was very good and we had enough to eat, which is not always the case with special offers. This is fine dining so the portions are small but the main course and the dessert course were sufficient and the bread basket was generous. We had Dover Sole and Lamb for the main courses and both were delicious. Desserts were also delicious and a perfect end to the meal. We were the only people in the restaurant so the service could not be faulted. Our Italian waiters Matteo and Silvia were charming and helpful. I asked for help in choosing wine from the least expensive on the list and I was guided towards a white and a red that were both acceptable to our pockets and our palates. My one criticism would be that the sommelier didn't take time to understand how we wanted the wine served, the white with the starter and the two fish dishes and the red with the lamb. Two white wine glasses were taken away by her before the starter arrived and we had to ask for them to be returned. Other than that we had a lovely relaxed lunch at The Oval and would certainly return. We could only book this deal for a 12.30 lunch. No other time slots carried the offer at lunchtime. The Oval is well worth a visit on this offer.
Orchids are my favorite flowers so the beautiful floral arrangement immediately elevated my mood.
Service was friendly and professional.
The thoughtful choices on the fixed menu catered to vegetarian and non-vegetarian.
The food was elegantly plated and delicious!
I highly recommend the Oval for all occasions!
Lovely small hotel in a super location. Staff very friendly. Elegant and sophisticated. Excellent value for the quality.
First time at The Oval restaurant in The Wellesley and not disappointed. Been tempted to go before but some of the reviews have the impression that the food was fantastic but the restaurant itself lacked atmosphere mainly because it lacked customers. Not on Saturday it was full . Our sea bass was excellent and only minus was the quantity of vegetables. But otherwise all good. Puddings were delicious especially the ice cream selection with sorbets. Staff were very good and professional. Gave us lots of time and didn’t rush us at all. Will return, the Open Table deal was also excellent with 3 courses from a set menu and a glass of Veuve each for £35.
Amazing experience, lovely intimate restaurant
Great food, attentive service - altogether very nice.
The service was very bad! Glasses were always empty, had to ask for top up! Dessert was not to my taste!
Lovely, made us feel welcome, food was excellent.
First visit to the restaurant for Friday dinner. Enjoyed starter and main at the gorgeous and (surprisingly) small restaurant, then moved to the Jazz Lounge for dessert. Very attentive staff and excellent food.
Just great experience
Once again a fabulous experience. Special word of thanks to the chef who sent out some lovely 'extras'. The Oval is one of my favourite restaurants in London.
Nice service and excellent food. Recommend the beef fillet and the duck!
Great place for a data!!
Expensive for the experience. Why do hotel restaurants always have piped music? It would have been so much better without
