Fabulous meal flawless in every way. Everything was delicious and perfectly presented.
Being a Michelin star restaurant you do not going there for cheap eats. I went with my partner and three female daughters (20 somethings) and it is fair to say that they found some of the dishes challenging.
For my partner and I, we loved it. The food quality and the wine … excellent.
The only thing that tainted it for me was the incessant upselling of one of the waiters towards the end of the evening. Other than that, the service was excellent.
The vegetarian taster menu was everything we expected. Then on top of that the waiter really was very attentive and made the evening more enjoyable. Will definitely be back to try the standard vegetarian option.
Excellent food and service. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves
Excellent service, well cared for and made to feel like the only customer. The only thing that outdid the service was the food. Totally outstanding.
Absolutely brilliant! The food & service was perfect (loved the arancini of pea & the honey cake) Definitely worth a visit & if we're back in Oxford will visit again. Passed the napkin test too. Thank you for a great time!
The meal was excellent - we had the Chef’s tasting menu with the wine pairing and enjoyed all the courses and the wine, and in one case, beer, that was paired with them. However, it was an expensive evening as it was my treat!
I was in town for a wedding and was able to have a beautiful lunch at The Oxford Kitchen - it was a tough choice between the Market and Chefs tasting, but I thoroughly enjoyed every dish on the Market tasting menu. In particular, the raw tuna and tomato appetizer with a watermelon sorbet was a wonderful combination of flavors. Overall, a great value for the quality and quantity of the food - would highly recommend if you are planning a visit to Oxford.
Chef's tasting menu is awesome!!
Quite simply the food was as good as we have eaten in a number of Michelin 2 star restaurants. We were recommended by a friend and how right was he. We will return.
Excellent tasting menus, including vegetarian.
We loved it !! Saw the William Sitwell review and decided to drive over to Oxford Summertown - so delighted we did !
The Oxford Kitchen is totally amazing. Paul Welburn’s food is stunning ! The kitchen delivered amazing and exciting food. The Front of House team are equally fabulous !! Our first visit, but we will be back, loads !!
I had a short tasting menu for lunch, the bread was incredible with herbs butter and marmite butter
The sweet pea rabbit and poacher dish was my favourite and also the turbot chicken with cauliflower.
Tuna with tomato, melon and dashi was a little confusing and they didn’t get rid of the sinew while they prep the fish, which isn’t really edible..
But overall the food was nice
Fabulous food as always, ambience still not quite right but easily best food in Oxford. Chiefs Menu bursting with taste and texture.
This place is nothing short of paradise. Whether you’re a food fanatic or not, it is simply wonderful. The tasting menu we had was exquisite - every dish, every mouthful.
The staff are warm, friendly, fun and unpretentious. They have perfect atmosphere for a great night out. It’s not one of those stuffy places that takes itself too seriously, rather the Oxford Kitchen has a perfect blend of order and good organisation plus genuine warmth of hospitality.
This was our first visit but will not be our last.
The food is amazing and our only comments were small and really at the margin. Please do try their food.
Yes, I would recommend it. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The restaurant is very unassuming in decor, but so what? It was a very good meal.
The food was all very good with some outstanding courses. We had the chefs tasting menu and the scallop dish was everyones favourite. The description of food and accompanying wines showed the staff had a real depth of knowledge. We had a pescatarian in our group who was totally included in the wonderful experience at The Oxford Kitchen.
Fantastic dining experience - the food was exquisite and it was clear how much attention and care had gone into crafting the mouthwatering flavours. Impeccable service and overall my husband and I had a wonderful time. We look forward to going back many more times and showing it off to our family and friends! We have been to The Ledbury in Notting Hill and Restaurant Story in London Bridge and this is right up there with these premier restaurants.
Surperb food and great service .. my only niggle would be the length of service(sat down at 7.30pm left 10.30 .. no coffee!) but do understand that there were many courses!!
Also the decor of the restaurant is quite drab and the seat that I sat in was extremely upright and a touch uncomfortable for such a long time..
Outstanding food, friendly service and great atmosphere
We went for a special occasion , and it was. Best food I can remember having, staff attentive not pushy.
Excellent food & service. I guess it’s just a little on the pricey side for lunch, but worth a visit & would certainly do again for a special occasion.
Our second visit this month and as enjoyable as the first. Excellent cooking and service. Portion sizing is just right. Deserves to be busier considering the paucity of top restaurants in Oxford. Maybe it is for service at dinner.
First time we have been to the Oxford Kitchen we are very impressed. The food & wine was delicious & we will definitely be back.
Glorious food and considerate service. Would recommend without a doubt.
We had the lunchtime menu which was excellent. Limited selection but plenty of choice by virtue of tasty sounding dishes. It's the first time we had ever had beetroot meringues (which were complimentary) and they were divine. My son loved the wine. All in all a great experience.
Had visited before the new chef and the Michelin star and had been impressed so we were really looking forward to our second visit on a special graduation ceremony day. Not enough time sadly to sample the tasting menu (there will be a next time) but the lunch menu was very good and didn’t disappoint considering the price point. Wholeheartedly recommended. Very very good indeed.
Very good food and great service.
A fabulous evening to celebrate a birthday. We had the full menu with wine pairing and all the extras. Yes it costs an arm and a leg, but worth every penny. We hopped home, holding on to each other, with a grin from ear to ear. The arm and a leg have grown back, but the memory will take along time to disappear. It's our wedding anniversary on 6th October and we will be back. Best wishes to the Chef and staff, especially the barman, who has a nicely weighted arm. Mark & Jeanette Baker
Absolutely wonderful dining experience!
We had the Chefs 6 course tasting menu, and it was all delicious.. There is no surprise the food has been awarded a Michelin star.
We was greeted by a wonderful gentleman and our waiter all night was spot on, I didn’t have to top my wine or water up once.. a great experience in a great location. Will definitely return!
And an extra thank you for the birthday candle with desert for my partner, great time here all in all.
Almost missed this restaurant in amongst estate agents , charity shops and supermarkets ! But very pleasant inside . Food delicious and coped with my dairy free with aclarity ! Felt the wines were more over priced than most for this standard of food restaurant but a glass was was fine ! I also asked for a kir but made with a burgundy white which was not possible as they don’t sell white burgundies by the glass so a shame but everything else lovely .
This is the best discovery I've made in a long time and Oxford is lucky to have this chef. His first MIchelin Star was well deserved; his flavours are beautifully balanced and the food is a delight.
We chose the Market Tasting Menu which was worth every penny at £55 pp. Every dish was a triumph and they went together as a whole experience beautifully. I was pleased to be offered decent alternatives to the shellfish, that I sadly can't eat, that were proper dishes, and not just the same thing with the shellfish missing, as happened recently in another Michelin starred place.
There is a good range of wines available we chose a delicious Pomerol. There is also a promising looking wine pairing option, that I couldn't do as I was driving...but will plan better and do it next time! Sommelier seems to know his stuff.
All in all, I can't rate the food here highly enough. This chef is one to watch and his brigade clearly cares as much as he does.
I confess I actually missed my booking but the GM was kind enough to let me get my table - I did call after the usual 15min grace period to explain. The service, food & vibe of the place fully explain its deserved Michelin Star AND why my friend so highly recommended I go..........
Their signature amuse bouche is a beetroot macaron with goat's cheese............it confounds ones' palate in a good way!
He and his team know especially how to use fruit and herbs in unusual ways e.g. tarragon cream/custard with strawberries - I wish the gooseberry sorbet was more sharp but the French dessert wine worked a treat too - or apricot "ketchup" with the duck or even the pickled(?) apple cubes against pork belly & smoked eel for texture too.
I wish I had more time there because I would've had the tasting menu! I just have to go back + online foodie magazine Big Hospitality had an article about their Executive Chef Paul Welburn published the day I went ;p
Amazing restaurant with exceptional service. Music choice was a bit uninspiring. Food and wine were to die for. Our server (a girl originally from Venezuela), provided unparalleled service. We will return.
Excellent food and service at lunchtime, celebrating my husband's birthday. The food was light and beautifully presented as well as tasting exquisite -just right for lunchtime. Thank you
We had a delicious meal and a wonderful evening. The staff were very attentive but interesting to have 4 different people serving us. We found the noise level made it difficult to hear the staff at times and this would be helped by some improved baffling.
Excellent original food. One mustn't mind if you are not quite sure what you are eating. Service very meticulous, but disjointed, and not particularly aligned with the wishes of the customer. On the whole, good value if you take the lunch menu.
Went for my 50th for the Tasting menu and it exceeded my very high expectations. Particularly impressed with the flexibility to make some swaps on the tasting menu to suit two fussy pescatarians! We had the Octopus from the market menu to replace the beef and it was EXCEPTIONAL. My absolute show stopping dish was the Pina Colada, WOW. Mouth tingling. Outstanding creativity, quality and presentation.
Best and most imaginative food in town. Plenty of interesting flavours in opposition but all delicately balanced. Despite this, the food was unfussy and straightforward. All around a really nice treat. So glad that we can find such a good restaurant in Oxford.
