Managed to get a table for lunch here for my brother’s birthday and have to say the service and food was exceptional. They were very attentive as you would expect and took my but allergy into consideration. They said we should come back and try the tasting menu so asked them to give me a reservation for an evening which they couldn’t do... I can see why!
Tables way too close together! I’m all for a cosy atmosphere but when the waiter’s bottom is hanging over your table when he’s serving the next table I draw a line.
The menu is a bit confused - there is no point offering a seven course tasting menu when the first 2 courses are snacks and the last 3 are desserts, 2 of which were quite similar.
When you’ve selected wine pairing - it’s disappointing to have to order another glass firs as you’re told the first glass doesn’t arrive until the third course!
Innovative, interesting, flavorful food in a pleasant unassuming atmosphere with perfect service. And I am a critical one and two star Michelin visitor across Europe.
Really good chefs tasting menu, the star dish for us was the scallop definitely worth the £10 supplement. The staff were attentive and service was timed well for each course.
This was a business lunch. On arrival we were shown to a table in a booth (rather than at the window|) Service was reasonably prompt and we were pleasantly surprised by a couple of plates of 'amuse bouche'.
The meal was very well cooked but slightly rich (for my taste),
Overall a good experience.
I generally food was good but nothing special for the price.
Service failed a few times forgot cutlery ( 3 times) - poor man was waiting extra time with heavy tray to make sure we have cutlery on the table. I Hate complain , but for the price what you pay definitely you should expect top shelf service. Last thing witch make me confused and failed my experience, was not getting £18 rest of my money from my bill,
But service charge was already on the bill, just over £30 +£18 for not the best service is a bit too much...
Wonderful food, served with care and prepared with great skill and a proper regard for taste.
mike was a magnificent host and we will definitely be coming back again, me and my girlfriend had the most amazing date
We had an amazing dinner. Even as a vegetarian with some food intolerances, I had an incredible dining experience. Such fabulous flavours. So much food. Great staff. I am heading back there asap.
Excellent food!! I would definitely return and recommend to friends.
The wine accompanying the market menu was perfect.
The Oxford Kitchen well justifies its Michelin star. The food is imaginative, the presentation first class and the flavours are memorable. The dress code is smart casual and this suits the atmosphere which is relaxed and welcoming. An altogether pleasurable experience which will be repeated if at all possible.
As always, the Oxford Kitchen delivered an excellent lunch with fantastic service. Can find no fault with it and good value considering its Michelin star status.
We chose the Oxford Kitchen because of the vegetarian menu. We had the vegetarian tasting menu with the wine pairing. It was totally amazing. We have never had vegetarian food treated in this way. I would highly recommend this restaurant. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the setting laid back. Unfortunately we live down on the coast in Kent so are unlikely to be able to go again anytime soon. But next time we are staying in Oxford we’ll definitely go again.
Top class food. Innovative, modern and very enjoyable. The staff were all really good and well understated. We had the chefs tasting menu which is priced commensurate to a Michelin starred restaurant, but well worth the money. The oyster, apple and salami was extraordinary.
We had the 3-courses Lunch Menu to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. It was excellent.
Really delicious food, lovely place with good atmosphere and excellent waiting staff. Would absolutely go again. Of course it is very expensive but you get what you pay for.
Very, very disappointing. It is trying too hard. Some courses eg salmon and octopus frankly unappetising.
Oyster and scallop good. But this is absolutely not Michelin star level in any way.
Only offered 2 menus with overlap on some courses. Because they were not busy they also offered the scallop course on both menus. We declined but apparently gets good reviews & the people on the table next to us certainly enjoyed theirs.
Overall the food was good, some courses better than others but that's just personal preference. Expensive but then thats what you expect at a Michelin starred restaurant.
Surprisingly not full the night we were there so definitely worth trying for a late table mid week.
The food was amazing and service superb! Made my engagement dinner really one to remember
Really fantastic experience. Definitely recommend to anyone wanting a special night out.
Fabulous meal flawless in every way. Everything was delicious and perfectly presented.
Being a Michelin star restaurant you do not going there for cheap eats. I went with my partner and three female daughters (20 somethings) and it is fair to say that they found some of the dishes challenging.
For my partner and I, we loved it. The food quality and the wine … excellent.
The only thing that tainted it for me was the incessant upselling of one of the waiters towards the end of the evening. Other than that, the service was excellent.
The vegetarian taster menu was everything we expected. Then on top of that the waiter really was very attentive and made the evening more enjoyable. Will definitely be back to try the standard vegetarian option.
Excellent food and service. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves
Excellent service, well cared for and made to feel like the only customer. The only thing that outdid the service was the food. Totally outstanding.
Absolutely brilliant! The food & service was perfect (loved the arancini of pea & the honey cake) Definitely worth a visit & if we're back in Oxford will visit again. Passed the napkin test too. Thank you for a great time!
The meal was excellent - we had the Chef’s tasting menu with the wine pairing and enjoyed all the courses and the wine, and in one case, beer, that was paired with them. However, it was an expensive evening as it was my treat!
I was in town for a wedding and was able to have a beautiful lunch at The Oxford Kitchen - it was a tough choice between the Market and Chefs tasting, but I thoroughly enjoyed every dish on the Market tasting menu. In particular, the raw tuna and tomato appetizer with a watermelon sorbet was a wonderful combination of flavors. Overall, a great value for the quality and quantity of the food - would highly recommend if you are planning a visit to Oxford.
Chef's tasting menu is awesome!!
Quite simply the food was as good as we have eaten in a number of Michelin 2 star restaurants. We were recommended by a friend and how right was he. We will return.
Excellent tasting menus, including vegetarian.
We loved it !! Saw the William Sitwell review and decided to drive over to Oxford Summertown - so delighted we did !
The Oxford Kitchen is totally amazing. Paul Welburn’s food is stunning ! The kitchen delivered amazing and exciting food. The Front of House team are equally fabulous !! Our first visit, but we will be back, loads !!
I had a short tasting menu for lunch, the bread was incredible with herbs butter and marmite butter
The sweet pea rabbit and poacher dish was my favourite and also the turbot chicken with cauliflower.
Tuna with tomato, melon and dashi was a little confusing and they didn’t get rid of the sinew while they prep the fish, which isn’t really edible..
But overall the food was nice
Fabulous food as always, ambience still not quite right but easily best food in Oxford. Chiefs Menu bursting with taste and texture.
This place is nothing short of paradise. Whether you’re a food fanatic or not, it is simply wonderful. The tasting menu we had was exquisite - every dish, every mouthful.
The staff are warm, friendly, fun and unpretentious. They have perfect atmosphere for a great night out. It’s not one of those stuffy places that takes itself too seriously, rather the Oxford Kitchen has a perfect blend of order and good organisation plus genuine warmth of hospitality.
This was our first visit but will not be our last.
The food is amazing and our only comments were small and really at the margin. Please do try their food.
Yes, I would recommend it. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The restaurant is very unassuming in decor, but so what? It was a very good meal.
The food was all very good with some outstanding courses. We had the chefs tasting menu and the scallop dish was everyones favourite. The description of food and accompanying wines showed the staff had a real depth of knowledge. We had a pescatarian in our group who was totally included in the wonderful experience at The Oxford Kitchen.
Fantastic dining experience - the food was exquisite and it was clear how much attention and care had gone into crafting the mouthwatering flavours. Impeccable service and overall my husband and I had a wonderful time. We look forward to going back many more times and showing it off to our family and friends! We have been to The Ledbury in Notting Hill and Restaurant Story in London Bridge and this is right up there with these premier restaurants.
