Excellent setting and great service
The dogs were made just as welcome as we were and is the reason we’ll be returning time and again
The food was great although no shortbread given as promised on one pudding
No big deal tbh
Already booked for a birthday celebration in November
Excellent location for excellent food and service with a smile. The layout of the establishment allows you to have a certain amount of privacy and depending on where you sit, beautiful views of the gardens and village green. The food was really excellent and two in our party had the set menu, while the other two chose from the other menu. It's certainly one to recommend if you want that little bit extra when dining.
Fabulous food, great service. We will be back for Christmas lunch and looking forward to it 😊
This was our first time at The Packhorse and certainly won't be our last - the best Sunday roast we've had in a very long time. Every item on the plate was perfectly cooked and the banana and chocolate bread and butter pudding was sensational. Delicious food served by delightful staff in an elegant space; what more could we ask for?
Lovely lunch & friendly staff. We all had the roast beef which was good but not quite as good as a previous lunch there.
Lovely lunch to celebrate a birthday. Delicious food. Birthday desserts. Charming service. Calm environment
This was our first time eating here and the food and service was fantastic. We will be coming back
Food average , limited menu , expensive, though fresh produce used, did not find the meal outstanding . Would not class this as a 5 * meal.
The menu equivalent to modern bistro .
The pub is very dog friendly and staff very helpful & obliging to Accommodate our needs .
We eat at the Packhorse a lot and really like it but on Sunday they were a bit below par. Firstly we ordered champagne and the waitress poured it without noticing it was warm, they did bring a chilled one once we pointed this out. These things do happen and was quickly rectified. The heritage salad contained no avocado despite the menu saying it did, we couldn’t be bothered to mention this but did feel that as the only veggie option it was rather insubstantial, not what we expected from them. We were given the desert menu then forgotten and had to go and find someone to take our order. Just not up to their normal standard.
We have been to the Packhorse Inn on 4 separate occassions. As always, it was fantastic. Great food, great service...what more do you need?
Ambience rated only 3 stars because there was a dispute between staff . My daughter witnessing a staff member crying in the ladies toilet . A manager and waiter discussing the poor girl within earshot.
Food - whilst the vegetables were excellent the beef was tough and very fatty. Cod and Salmon Fishcakes were excellent.
I have previously dined at the Packhorse during the week and enjoyed every aspect, I would hope our not so good experience on Sunday was just an unfortunate one-off and will continue to recommend the Packhorse to my friends.
The packhorse is a nice venue but its a real shame that they only offer one vegetarian main meal option. Its also a shame that it always seems to be a risotto...
Excellent service, excellent wine, excellent food.
Good reviews were not wrong. Imaginative food, fast service, clean, well kept, interesting, good car park, lovely location, quiet. We had to drag ourselves away.
Excellent food and service in a superb location. Management need to keep a close eye on bar area. Very loud people, and some use of obscene language audible. Unacceptable.
A favourite and great place for meeting friends, special occasions and a more informal pop in
Excellent across the board
Food was very good and the ambiance was just right for a relaxing evening out. The staff were efficient and friendly. Definitely a place to visit.
Beautiful pub, excellent service, great food, overall a great afternoon.
Went here with my partner mid week as a surprise for our anniversary. The food was absolutely amazing, the service was second to none. We had a lovely time & will be returning very soon.
Was birthday meal but table was in worst location for through traffic - it was extremely noisy - very young children running around at 9pm not acceptable or expected in restaurant of this calibre - extremely disappointed as we have food experiences before but this has put me off going again as it ruined my friends birthday - we did tell staff but they were too busy to care
Never disappoints. Great setting, attentive & knowledgeable staff. Creative menu delivering superb food.
Food enjoyable but felt almost like it was trying too hard to be a bit 'different' and choice fairly limited. There were clever innovations but this was sometimes 'overdone'. Desserts disappointing overall but enjoyable experience in general with good service, nice decor and welcoming, warm atmosphere in which to relax during and after the meal. Perhaps a tad pricey for the food content.
Thoroughly enjoyable evening
We were in the room at the rear of the bar and so noise level was good until the music was turned on too loudly however it was turned off after asking
Otherwise no complaints at all
Delightful ambience, simple table settings and neutral colours. The food was expensive, perhaps a little over-complicated, but we enjoyed it. A good selection of fairly unusual wines by the glass, and my husband was pleased to be offered a choice of two nonalcoholic beers. The service was cheerful and friendly.
Everything is always fabulous here & was so again this time. Service was incredible, wine list & drinks menu was amazing, beautiful ambiance & food was impeccable. The only slight negative we found were the choices on the menu. They were a bit limited if you don’t like fish. Of course it’s all personal choice though & everything else was brilliant.
Great staff. Great food. Thank you
Couldn’t fault it. Online booking made things easy too
Very pleasant surroundings, charming attentive staff and excellent food.
Had dinner at Packhorse on Saturday evening- inventive starters + stunningly presented and perfectly cooked Cod with Parmesan crust for main - excellent service and great ambiance - highly recommend
The food was fantastic! Perfect Steaks and the smoked duck was to die for.
It is pricey, however I am a firm believer that you pay for quality and that is definitely what we got.
Will definitely visit again.
Great place for a relaxing evening out. If you want food cooked by someone who knows what they're doing and attentive but relaxed service, come here.
Food is always presented in a way that means the menu only gives you a hint of the joys to come. The rhubarb and custard was a delight.
Love the bread and little hor d’oeuvre offered at the start.
The vegetarian options are poor but the salad I had was excellent. I did discuss this and you were receptive to my ideas of low carb veg options. Will look forward to seeing the menu next time!
A really wonderful location for lunch. Staff were very friendly and accomodating and we were able to have a leisurely lunch.
It's a little on the pricey side but it's a really pretty pub, the waiting staff are really good and the food is great!
Went there for my birthday and had a lovely meal. Good choice of good on the menu. Food was hot and nicely presented. Staff were really friendly and efficient. Would recommend going to eat there
We felt rushed with the service from girls who had no idea what they were doing. Also one main course was over salted. We did not leave a tip which I think says it all.
Disappointing experience that I would not want to repeat
Nice atmosphere, fantastic food and excellent service.
Thank you for looking after us again at The Packhorse. The food was delicious (although we missed being offered the little tasters we'd had before - beetroot meringues and littel brioche mushrooms). The service was good but rather slow - it seemed a very long time before any food appeared..... Nevertheless, special thanks are due to the manager, who not only reserved a space for us in the car park for my husband's wheelchair mobility vehicle without us asking, but also was extremely creative when it came to raising the table sufficiently to accommodate the height of the wheelchair, enabling my husband to sit comfortably at the table. Very impressive - thank again!
Friendly staff and delightful setting should have made this the ideal venue for dinner. The food, however, did not live up to the reviews and neither the head waiter or the chef bothered to follow up the feedback to the waitress i.e. Undercooked pork and which was too salty.
At over £40 a head for dinner and drinks we expected better.
