The Peat Spade
A very pleasant waiter showed us to our table and explained there were issues with the heating which wasn't a problem at first but after sitting there for nearly two hours, it became extremely chilly.
We had beef roasts, my beef was perfect but my husbands was fatty and 'stringy'. We had a 2 minute wait between the beef and potatoes arriving at the table and the rest of the vegetables. £17 is a bit steep for a pub roast.
We had crumble and custard after (mainly to warm me up) which was very, very nice, but again I think £8 for a crumble is expensive.
Car parking is limited when busy.
Have loved this pub for many years, but food and service were both poor on this occasion.
Excellent Sunday lunch with very generous portions. Friendly staff.
Superb chicken supreme with Lyonnaise potatoes and baby veg - delicate yet full flavoured. Ham and eggs were a huge portion - beautiful big fresh eggs on thick slices of good ham with lovely chunky chips. Oh and then the STP with salted caramel ice-cream was a perfect finish. Overall the food was excellent and well priced for the location.
Good food nice atmosphere but the waiter needed some training
Spotlessly clean, spacious, very friendly staff, great choice of beers, soft drinks too, excellent coffee too.
The menu choice is varied and fun, the set menu yesterday (Wednesday) was superb, great value and wonderful food, two people had steak which was cooked to perfection, my fish was really good too. Not usually a ‘pudding person’ but they were too tempting to turn down. A special mention to the young lady who served our food, she was truly awesome 👏
Wonderful, characterful, and cosy village pub. Great lunch, good beers on tap, and a pretty good wine list too. Awesome circular walk along the Test Way to Stockbridge, and then back along the Stockbridge to Longstock road. Thanks. Will come again for sure.
Nice environment and ambience. Food a little disappointing beef pie was too dry and salty and one had piece of plastic in it. Apart from apology and offer to replace contaminated pie, staff did nothing to rectify the issue. Would eat there again and hope quality control improves.
Our only gripe is that we were seated adjacent to the coffee machine, so conversation was interrupted frequently by the noise made by the Barista banging the spent grains container on the table.
We met some friends for a late lunch and were very pleased with our choice of venue. Roasts were huge but delicious and we weren’t hurried at all.
Lovely food, very friendly staff. Beautiful pub setting, relaxing and cosy.
We had a Christmas lunch which was gorgeous, service was great even though the place was packed! The only reason the noise level was high was an energetic Christmas party in the room next door which we didn't mind!
I love the place but wh3n busy service very slow and soup cold .
The food was generally excellent, however the sauces on my kidney starter and venison main were salty and a bit bitter where they had been over reduced. Everyone enjoyed their food and the syrup sponge pudding with ginger bread icecream was wonderful. We will be Back.
As ever, The Peat Spade continues to provide a reliable, good quality, and friendly eating place!
My only comment is that I would have liked a dessert option that came with cream as an option as I do not like ice cream or sorbet. The food I ate was delicious and I would definitely go again.
Great family meal was had on a Saturday. Food was superb and service good. Only downside is not enough parking facilities. Will definitely be back.
Great food and excellent service. Wish this was my local!
Just love the place, the people , the service and he food.
Not too expensive.
I thought that one of the girl serving us was the m@nager because she was so helpful and confident in. What she could do for us !
Fabulous food and service but lacked a bit of atmosphere, perhaps to be expected on a Tuesday evening. Otherwise perfect!
Somewhat disappointing. First course was great but our mains were not good. My friend’s fish was dry and my gammon cold. The chips were also too well cooked. The pub was very busy and the staff were under some pressure, and the kitchen too. I’ve eaten here quite a few times so not too happy on this occasion.
all good except service , not enough staff maybe ????? we had to remind staff of our order , Sara Randall
Plenty of good food but the gravy was tasteless. Do you use the same gravy for all of the roasts?
Probably better to offer Yorkshire pud as an extra but included with the beef, naturally.
We enjoyed our experience.
Food very disappointing, halloumi not cooked well, no sauce on chicken and different potatoes on dish to what was adverised on menu, brownie dry. Would not return. Expensive disappointing meal.
Service was good apart from delay in getting the bill. Excellent preparation and presentation of dishes. Very good value.
The service initially was not very good as we were allocated a reserved table for our group of 5, but the table was VERY low and the waitress wasn't really interested in our concerns. We were offered an alternative but this was squashed into a corner so wasn't any better. The food was very nice and the male head waiter was very helpful. Overall I would recommend for the food although if there is a group of you then ask for a standard height table.
Super food, excellent value and lovely staff.
Beautiful venue and so convenient for the Waitrose farm just up the road!
Fantastic food, but took a long time to arrive, never had any staff check if things were ok either, very reasonable price though
Delicious meal! However both husbands felt cold. We, the wives, were by the radiator, so we were ok.
Four of our family celebrated my husband’s 85th birthday on 31st October and I would like to thank the Peat Spade staff for an excellent meal. Could not fault the food or service. Thoroughly recommend it and look forward to returning when we are next in Hampshire. Lorna Fawcett
The food was very nice and the service was excellent.
I would definitely recommend The Peat Spade.
And I’m looking forward to returning !!
What a great place! Staff were excellent as was the food.
Great food, friendly unobtrusive service. Would definately recomend
Very friendly staff and very good service. The menu was interesting and had good choices for both meat and vegetarians alike. The wine delicious and as we had drivers a good choices for wine by the glass. Value for money it was excellent. The new owners have clearly a sense of humour, one I appreciate and all I can say is Ladies visit the loo even if it’s just to wash your hands!!!
great food and friendly service. Particularly loved the vegetables which were cooked to perfection and the tasty charcuterie share board.
Great starter of a platter to sage but let down by main courses of fish and chips which were extremely average; the chips were warm rather than hot and the batter both tasteless and not crisp. We were in a small room furthest from the bar which was soulless. Service was good but overall we will not be hurrying back
Good food, friendly atmosphere. Shame about the dogs!
Great Sunday roast, generous portions and excellent beer. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff, will be back soon.
Second time I tried to write this review, but basically a lot of hype but 100% meh.
Hawk Inn however is great.
Great little pub/restaurant - food choices good, quality produce. staff were unsure of ingredients listed on menu. Drinks ordering somewhat shambolic and beer options poor. That said we had a great evening, the ambience is perfect for being able to feel cosy and hold conversations.
