The Pig and Goose and the George on the Strand
The Pig & Goose restaurant upstairs at The George is open Monday to Saturday and offers an exciting, modern British menu, using only the finest seasonal, local produce.
Excellent food throughout!
A great new venue in an area that's surprisingly short of good options. Over a pub, but there's no noticeable noise from downstairs (and the loos are separate too). Excellent food and drink (including five-star truffle and parmesan chips), but a little on the pricey side -- a set menu might be the next step forward?
The food was very good, high quality ingredients and a nice variety of dishes in the menu. The only thing I would add in the ambiance was some nice Jazz music, it will transform the experience and it will go very well with menu.
We ate last friday in this restaurant and are very satisfied with our experience: the service was efficient and kind, the main courses, sides, desserts and wines we tasted were really good. I really enjoyed the roasted chicken because the meat was tender, the green beans with the nuts were crunchy and delicious, the apple crumble with halzelnut ice-cream was very well cooked. We would recommand this place for a quiet diner in a warm atsmophere with tasty food!
excellent food and service as always. we all enjoyed the meal and our visitors from the US were very impressed. thanks for lovely evening
Good food, wine and service. Restaurant without windows. Was disappointed that the view advertised on the website is restricted to the private dinner room, the normal people are in the dark!
We 5 attended at the Pig and Goose on Wednesday 8th May.
We were greeted by Hugo, who instantly knew may name, which made us feel really valued, he was attentive to our every need [as well as being stunningly handsome!!!]. The food was exceptional and the service could not be faulted.
I would certainly go back again, our overall impression was of quality and exceptional service.
This was Sunday lunch in the George. Very lovely. Great service and the food was really good. They didn't have the wine I wanted so charged me the same for a more expensive glass. Well worth a visit and will try upstairs another time.
The George is not a gastropub. It is a restaurant above a pub with a serious menu and fairly serious prices. The room is simple but comfortable, no distinctive décor but an element of room between the tables/banquettes, a calm looking open kitchen at one end, and an air of quiet efficiency. The wine list is enterprising and fairly priced. We had a Valpolicella at £28 which we felt was reasonable value.
The menu has some interesting ideas and this is what attracted me; starters included pork belly, smoked chicken terrine, all nicely accessorised, and we enjoyed our choices. I decided on sea bream and my companion chose rabbit and chorizo, and here is where we felt let down. The fish was nicely presented, properly cooked, but essentially boring, even though everything was fresh. The rabbit and chorizo was even more pedestrian, and was quite dry, a big disappointment. It may be that our choices on the night just happened to miss, but with both mains falling rather flat, I simply cannot flag the George up as a winner, especially with such fierce competition from other eateries in this price range.
As a MUST when I visit London with my family. This time it was the experience with the Sunday's roast at The George which intrigued us.
Everything was great, the atmosphere, the beers and the food. A great pork belly with a crunchy skin, a great fish and very tasty hamburger. We love it as preferred English pub in London.
Price in line with the quality and above the average of other similar location.
My family had a nice dinner at The Pig&Goose.
The restaurant at the 1st floor is really nice. Not so many tables but really a quiet and sophisticated atmosphere.
The waiter was warm and polite. Helped us taking the best decision about the meal.
To remember the duck breast and the peanut parfait. Top.
In the next days we visit The George with a very good expectation.
We use to visit once a year this nice place, pub and restaurant.
This was my third time dining at The Pig and Goose and the first time for my partner and it didn't disappoint. Excellent service, very good food and wine and a relaxing ambience. Looking forward to returning soon.
The meal was one of the best we had during our ten days in London. It took some work to overcome the surliness of the waiter/bartender, and that is the only thing that keeps me from giving this a n outstanding review. The courgettes was one of the best dishes I've ever had. Would love to know the recipe!!!
We were looking for a traditional British pub and found Pig & Goose through Yelp. The atmosphere is of a pub but the food is way better. We took the 5 course tasting menu and each course was amazing, creative, and delicious. Everything was perfect.
Great pub for drinks before lunch upstairs. Lovely food.
Misleading that the pub and the restaurant are completely different and independent from one to the other. Not clear information either on website and inloco
Small restaurant above the George pub. Excellent range of draft ales in the bar and a very reasonably priced wine list in the restaurant. Food was well cooked and nicely presented. Will be going back!
This restaurant gave us a really good experience. Very good food. Great customer service. All in all, very exellent. I will recomend this for any person. I have eating here several times. And will for sure visit them next time in London.
Wonderful atmosphere, super friendly service, fantastic food, a nice interior
Excellent meal for 5 of us, near the kitchen watching 2 hardworking chefs create great food.
Four of us had a post matinee dinner, wexwere booked in for 17:45 which was quite early but we had a train to catch.
As it was quiet the waiter was very attentive but not intrusive. The main meal was delicious we had two sea bream and two rabbit sausage rolls. The desserts were equally brilliant.
As we were the only people in the restaurant the noise level was not a problem they were fully booked for the rest of the evening though so I can't comment .
I booked on line which was easy but a confirmation email would have helped.
I will defiantly return and recommend to everyone who will listen.
not very nice, below average food. you can find much better in london.
Excellent ambiance and friendly service, the food is very good and the wine list very comprehensive.
Fantastic food. Really great British authentic vibe.
Great food and service. 20% discount if you show theatre tickets. Will definitely return!
Went here for my birthday, and what a treat! The staff were absolutely lovely, attentive, and went through the menu in detail providing excellent recommendations. The setting was relaxed and the food was amazing - high quality, delicious and didn’t bust the bank. I was really impressed and will definitely be coming back
Had a Pre-theatre meal here - really great food, service etc. And if you show your theatre tickets you get 20% off the food bill - what's not to like.
My partner and I live in a hotel in central London for 50% of the year and eat out at least 5 nights a week whilst we are here. We have tried literally hundreds of restaurants. Despite enjoying many (London rarely offers a bad experience in my opinion), I have never been prompted to write a review.
Last night we went to the Pig & Goose as we were looking for something casual - the pub downstairs was lively, but there is a lovely old restaurant upstairs. The meal, the service and the wine were all simply astoundingly good. I had the chicken croquettes and lamb shank. The croquettes were possibly one of the most delicious dishes I have ever eaten. But everything they served from the bread to the dessert was simply beautifully cooked with beautiful flavour and a somellier who knew precisely what to offer. All delivered with an easy smile.
The restaurant was quiet - but shouldnt be such a hidden gem - its in a gorgeous olde world pub setting in the heart of london with a top quality restaurant upstairs. I would highly recommend these guys.
Excellent lunch, informal, high quality food and service
Excellent food 5stars
A gem of a gastropub. Wonderful food, service, alcohol selection, setting and all priced just about right for its target clientele.
I recommend the duck egg starter, lamb and tonka bean parfait.
My companions were very complimentary about my choice of restaurant - thanks to the Pig & Goose for not letting me down!
The menu is slightly limited for us vegetarians but nevertheless it tastes good! It's a great place for a long conversational lunch on a school day.
We had two Sunday roasts and a burger. All cooked to perfection. Super large Yorkshire with tasty roast beef. Chips with the burger were crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside - wonderful
The ale we ordered was not the best but that could have been the type of beer. Otherwise everything was wonderful and we would return.
I come here for the food, which is very good. No complaints
The George bar is busy and lively, upstairs at The Pig and Grouse is fabulously clam, the food is beautifully presented and so tasty. The staff were friendly, helpful and fun too. A lovely evening out.
We had a fabulouse dinner at The Pig and Goose. 5 of us experienced a 3 course dinner with lamb as a maincourse. We left the choise of wine to the sommelier, Craig, who did an exelent job finding the right wines during the dinner. By the way, Craig has a fantastic sense of humor, and a good nose for fine wine. The five of us agree on coming back next time in London.
This was our second visit to the Pig and Goose. Three of us had the Sea bream which was excellent. We also liked the service which was friendly and informal but efficient. This is our go-to place in that part of London.
I have never had a bad meal at this place. I only go there a couple of times a year but the food and service are consistently of a very high standard. I shall return (again)...!
Great pub with great food and service and good price for food and drinks
