The Poet is a little gem! The food is amazing and the actual restaurant is cosy with a modern twist. The head chef - Petreus is amazing. He’s passionate about the place and it reflects in his food. *

Due to big traffic problems phoned "The Poet" and arrived 1 hour late. Received and greeted with warmth we needed.

Very pleasantly surprised - and a bit upset that we had not discovered this restaurant before, which we did through OpenTable, which shall now use more often to identify good restaurants! service could not have been better and the food was delicious, lovely and some unexpected tastes.

Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble. It was my daughters 14th birthday and they delivered a delicious piece of cake with a candle at the end of our meal. We had a lot of fun. Thank you .

We learnt about this restaurant through our neighbourhood FB group & then realised that the chef is the esteemed Petrus Madutlela (Professional Masterchef fame) and the food did not disappoint!! A little gem in the Kent countryside.

Great food, lovely little pub. The staff were professional yet friendly so the service was good. The only small negative is the car park is tiny. Despite this I’d def go back to try the tasting menu.

We have visited the Poet on several occasions in the past and have always had a warm welcome. The food, drink, attentiveness of all the staff and overall ambience is what keeps us coming back for what is always a special experience. This Saturday's visit was no different and we thank all of you at the Poet for helping us celebrate our good news in fine fashion!

We had booked the Poet for the first time after hearing rave reviews and we weren't disappointed. The food was amazing, and the service was fantastic. Couldn't fault a single thing! After lunch we then sat on the sofas by the fire for a coffee which was lovely. Would highly recommend.

We had heard positive things about The Poet, so we were keen to try it out.
It went beyond our expectations, it was the best meal we've had in the area
and that includes all the restaurants in Tunbridge Wells.

Very interesting menu with West End innovation, great attentive, but not suffocating, service. We will become regulars.

I visited the Poet at Matfield for the first time on New Years Day for lunch with my family. We weren't sure what to expect -and we were really delighted with our choice. We enjoyed our starters (particularly the smoked salmon with horseradish cream and the pea soup ), and our mains (a very good roasted cauliflower as a vegetarian option, and a great pork dish). The desserts were our favourite part of the meal - we shared a pannacotta with sorbet and a buttermilk parfait - great flavours.
We would happily return!

This was my first Christmas lunch in a restaurant. I knew I would not be disappointed as I eat fairly often at The Poet, Matfield.
One thing I like is that there is no music, so it is possible to have a conversation. The restaurant was packed as it was Christmas Day. The food was exquisite. Absolutely everything we ate was superb, from the amuse bouche to the coffee and mince pie, although we had to remind them for those.
The staff were brilliant. Tirelessly making our day special with no break for themselves.
Circumstances dictated this year that our family Christmas Day celebrations would be on Boxing Day so I would recommend it to anyone as a very special occasion.
