Never visited before but booked for Fathers Day which meant the main was a roast. Presented well with purees on plate. It was all hot as were the good selection of vegetables served separately. Starters and desserts were delicious and beautifully presented.

Overall perhaps a little expensive but we had an enjoyable meal and would certainly visit again.

Abrupt staff , told off for being ten minutes late, had to pay £10pp deposit a week before over the phone which was odd. Food was nice, roast beef somewhat chewy and none of the food came out piping hot. Not sure why everyone was serving with white gloves on the whole time not just to handle hot plates? Whole atmosphere was a little ostentatious , this is basically a pub serving pleasant food not a fine dining establishment.

Whilst the food was pretty good and the service was excellent we did feel that it was fairly expensive compared to other restaurants of similar standard of food

We have been to the Poet many times. The food is very good to outstanding. However our dining was rather marred by the attitude of one of the staff which was brusque to the point of rude. We were dining with friends and chatting away having a drink. Amongst other things, we hadn’t looked at the menu and were told in a very peremptory manner that we had to order now as there was another table due to come in. I should add the restaurant was not full and it was still early in the evening While I appreciate the challenge of running the kitchen this did not leave us with a pleasant feeling or make us feel welcome. We dine out very regularly and have never been treated like this. Such a shame that the attitude of one of the staff is the experience we remember rather than the lovely food.

The food was amazing, beautifully presented and incredibly tasty. Although there was only one vegetarian option I am told it was delicious. The range of gins was too much to try all in one evening but George mixed each with appropriate garnishes, fabulous. I tend not to order fish when dining out due to an allergic reaction to shellfish but would suggest you make ANY and ALL dietary restrictions or allergies known to the restaurant in advance as I received a bit of a telling off as my order was taken.
The desserts were totally divine.

Wonderful meal for our anniversary. The food, service and ambience never fails to impress. The steak and Malbec offer is also great value. Thank you for the little touches to mark our occasion!

We visited The Poet as a special treat to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary (and have a child-free evening!). On arrival we were warmly greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne and congratulations, and made to feel extremely welcome. Once seated, the warm service continued with all the staff congratulating us and making us feel that nothing was too much trouble to give us a special evening. The food was beautifully presented and extremely tasty and the drinks (including a seasonal cocktail) went down a treat too. We couldn't recommend The Poet enough, and thank the staff at for giving us a wonderful evening. We will be back…

Had to sit inside unfortunately as private event outside, on the hottest weekend! A shame but couldn't be avoided I guess. Would have been nice to know beforehand as picked the venue as we could sit outside. Very hot inside, but the BEST food!

Great food service excellent if a little slow as pressure was on us to vacate the table. One member of staff said that as we had only just booked we needed to be off the table in two hours. We had not just booked it was not welcoming but waiter was excellent

the table was booked and confirmed several weeks ago. there was a steady flow of emails reminding me but no request for telephone confirmation. on arrival at the appointed date and time we were scolded for not telephoning to confirm. i had given my daughter's mobile phone number but no contact was made. so a slightly disappointing reception.

Although we accidentally arrived very late for our lunch and our table was given to another group we were still given a table that was perfect for our needs.
The lunch was excellent and generous portions/sides. All Service was really impressive too. Absolutely delicious food. And a good price too for three courses for Sunday lunch.

Another outstanding taster menu! We really can’t fault anything about The Poet - the food is always of the highest standard, the staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly, and the fact that there are numerous gins on offer can only add to the overall excellence! Thank you for another fantastic night out.
