The Punch Bowl Inn
Very nice food and attentive and friendly staff. Will definitely return.
As three friends, we meet fairly frequently at the Punch Bowl where we enjoy drinks and a meal.
The food is always beautifully cooked and presented with staff being friendly and attentive; however, the recent menu change didn’t fill us with as much enthusiasm as usual. Two of us were looking for delicious salads although the food we chose was delicious.
Friendly efficient service with delicious food, and great ambiance.
My husband and I had a great evening out at The Punch Bowl last Saturday night. We were sat in a snug little corner, enjoyed each others company. The staff were all great. The food came out in a timely manner and was all piping hot. The food was not "exceptional" this time, but we still enjoyed it.
Looking forward to coming on Easter Sunday with family.
Can't believe I haven't found this pub before now - will definitely be back! Great surroundings, lovely atmosphere, friendly, helpful and efficient staff and delicious food! Thank you for a lovely evening.
On the day Sunday lunch booking. We tend to eat outside usual peak times so easily found a table at 4pm and we’re located in a great sport within a warm, friendly and atmospheric pub. Food, service and reception were exceptional. Definitely will be a stable part of our Sunday lunch circuit. Will try others within their specialist group too.
Not to our liking at all. Tables too close together and no relaxing atmosphere at all. Won't be revisiting
Very friendly welcome and the staff were very attentive in all aspects of the evening. The food was excellent along with a bottle of the house red.
There were six in our party. Three people had burgers and were very happy. the other three had the fish linguine and were disappointed. The amount of fish was minimal and the sauce thin and tasteless.
What a great pub. Worth the trip! Delicious, homey, a real warm welcoming village pub with a great wine list and prices lower than I would have expected because it is GREAT!
Excellent Steak night, great value for money and quality food. Definitely will return again and again.
Very good on all counts. It was very quiet with only one other table occupied in the dining room. However our lunch was lovely and staff very attentive and friendly. This pub is worth a visit in summer, as they have outdoor tables in the lovely garden courtyard. Good menu and good service.
We go to the punch bowl for all sorts of occasions from get togethers with friends, everyday and special occasions. Always great food and service.
Service very friendly fab food pheasant dish delish ,steaks wonderful and red wine recommendation perfect. Will be back
Great evening with friends, All the staff were spot on !
Food and service very good, however my seat was next to an extremely cold draughty window which spoiled the occasion for me. We did not request another table as our party included elderly relatives and we were there to celebrate a birthday and I did not want to disrupt everyone. However I will not accept that table again on future visits.
Love this place, always a lovely meal and the best Sticky Toffee Pudding anywhere!
Great service and staff could not have tried harder to look after you. Food was great with a varied menu.
From the moment we entered the Inn the staff were polite and attentive throughout the evening. The food was nicely presented and enjoyable and we will return again in the near future
Excellent all around, we will be back!
Pleasant surroundings, warm and cosy, attentive staff and welcoming . Like the steak nights and sunday lunches our favourite Pub right know and we have met some really nice customers to chat too . highly recommend
Lovely food and friendly service.
Would definitely go again
We have been there many times and had an enjoyable meal. This time however, the food was mediocre, very disappointing. My fresh fish was poor, and did not taste or look fresh and the vegetables were hard. The bread they served with the starter was stale. Shame.
The staff were great, very friendly and efficient.
We would go back but I do hope they can sharpen up their food.
The Punch Bowl was a real find. Yards from our overnight accomodation. The ambience was immediate, staff warm welcoming and friendly, great attention to detail but not overbearing. Menu was inviting each of our selected dishes was fantastic. Succulent fresh tasty produce cooked to perfection. Great value too. Cairan despite his football allegiances was great fun. He has taught the staff how to create a perfect Irish coffee! Would thoroughly recommend the Punch Bowl. Next time we are visiting the area we will eat here.
Always enjoy a visit to the Punchbowl, and enjoy lovely well cooked food. Made more enjoyable
by the pleasant staff ,who are always smiley and make you feel welcome. Enjoy having a chat
with the locals who seem to be a very friendly bunch, not surprising when you live in this village.
Might have to relocate here.
The best Sunday Lunch we've had in recent years. Lovely, attentive staff and a very friendly atmosphere. This is our new 'go to' restaurant. Highly recommended.
Superb meal with friends. Staff extremely helpful, friendly, diligent and fun
Our first time at The Punch Bowl was a very good experience. A very good welcome on arrival - the day was windy and rainy and our coats and umbrellas were taken from us immediately, and put safely away. The Maitre d was friendly, professional and good fun which made us feel relaxed. It was a Sunday so the usual roasts were on offer as well as other dishes, so every taste was catered for, and we all opted for traditional roast which were delicious - the starters and desserts were also delicious
We regularly attend "Steak Night" on Wednesdays & think they represent excellent value for money.
The service & food is normally excellent but on this occasion neither were up to the usual standard. Trying to order two gin & tonics was a struggle as the waitress provided incorrect information on the brands of gin available. She then served one gin & one vodka.
The steaks are normally cooked exactly as ordered but on this occasion they were overdone.
We have been many times and the Punch Bowl never fails. Excellent food, fantastic service always a warm welcome and great cocktails by Cieran. This is the reason it has won so many awards.
Food very average. Veg undercooked. Service indifferent.
Busy Sat evening but we had a quiet little table, quite intimate - just what we wanted. The staff were very welcoming from the moment we walked in and this continued throughout the evening. TBH, the staff made it a great night. Sophie was our man waitress and she frequently checked we had everything we wanted, had a little chat with us and looked after us really well! The food arrived in good time and it was a tasty meal - good portions which meant there wasn’t room for dessert, although they did look yummy! I’d certainly recommend this place; good venue, tasty food and great staff!
We have been a number of times before and have enjoyed the experience. As it was my wife's birthday we drove the fair distance (from East to North Yorkshire) to get there. I should point out there are other places much closer to us. Service was, unfortunately, virtually non existent. We were shown the wine list but it was that bad, I had to go to the bar for a bottle myself. The next table had their own issues, although I won't comment on those, even though we struck up a conversation on the subject. The manager came to see us and offered a discount on some of the drinks and money off our next visit. As I've mentioned we will go back but it has to re-prove itself!
Excellent Sunday Dinner
I have to say I have eaten at many pubs in the area and always want to give this one a try, we only live a few miles down the road and will definitely be back.
I dare to say this could be the best overall pub in Yorkshire. Good beer great selection of French wines and excellent food.
I will recommend to anybody who will listen.
Thanks again and see you next weekend.
Very disappointed shown into an empty dismal looking room no other tables taken rather a lot of midges flying around.
Food mediocre the roast meat looked as though it had been kept warm. The edges of the pork loin were curled up not how freshly carved meat should look.An abundance of gravy.Vegetables were fine and served separately roast potatoes had been kept warm difficult to cut.Size of the Yorkshire pudding was so large it took over the whole plate. The starter was not bad ,prawn cocktail although very surprised to discover garnished with sliced pickled gherkin!
The whole presentation needs to be upgraded very dissapointed
Fantastic food with very friendly and welcoming staff.
WE chose the specials of the day and were delighted with the choice and the standard of cooking. It was a pleasure to have fish dishes so well prepared.
We shall certainly return.
The quality of the food along with good natured flexible staff made this a very enjoyable visit.
Both assistant General Managers give a warm and positive reception every time.
Have visited this restaurant quite a few times and enjoy it but on this occasion we were seated in a section of the restaurant that was cold and we didn’t find it very pleasant. It was the far room off to the right of the bar. The tables were sticky and worn and chairs were not very comfy. Might have been nice to have the fire lit and maybe some flowers on the window sills. The food was good but there were five of us and we got one small bowl of cauliflower cheese and a small bowl of greens with our Sunday dinner. Very stingy for five people.
We visited on Fathers Day and the two Dads in our party were given a bottle of Theakstons beer each to take home, which was a nice touch.
