The Queens Arms has been an Edinburgh fixture for many years; the latest incarnation finds it reborn as a gastropub, although long-time customers will be pleased to know that the renovation has preserved the layout and most of the original features. This new look is charming customers and critics alike – since re-opening they scooped Best Gastropub at the 2010 DRAM (Drinks Retailing and Marketing) Awards. It's no wonder with the food they have on offer – Scottish classics, really, but with a modern twist. It's not only the food that customers are praising though – The Queens Arms also boasts friendly and efficient service and a solid offering of whiskies, cocktails and wine and beer (including several real ales).

Under 18's are not admitted after 8:00pm.
Dog friendly.

Cosy pub - the booths are particularly nice. The service was great and the food was nice - great value for a Sunday roast for two including dessert!

I looked up the best place in Edinburgh for a Sunday roast to take a friend who was visiting, and this was on the list. Perhaps other people find it great, but I found it very disappointing. We were initially brought the wrong order, which is not a big issue, mistakes happen, but when our meal arrived it had one decent size piece of chicken, and one piece hardly worth putting on the plate. It was not what I expected for a Sunday roast. My piece of chicken - a leg I think - was so small that I had a few small bites scraped off the bone, and that was it. It seemed that it was a roast for one, not two. The roasters were greasy and tasteless. The broccoli and carrots were fine! Really disappointing after looking forward to a nice Sunday roast :-(

Our table was ready when we arrived. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the beer/lager/drink menu and prompt in bringing our drinks. Four adults shared a meat pie, which was outstanding and came with mashed potatoes, veggies and gravy. Each of us also ordered a small side or appetizer to supplement. All were very good. Despite normal pub music and conversation, we were still able to talk and visit without any trouble. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The Queens Arms!

The steak and ale pie was phenomenal and all of our food was good, as was the service. However, it was just not comfortable with four of us squeezed into a tiny little booth, and I mean TINY with no room to move, and sitting straight up, with knees touching knees.

We showed up on time to our reservation, were not greeted and instead the manager looked freaked out and checked our “booking” and confirmed it. Our reservation was at 7 and he told us to go else where because he could not get our food to us by 8 o’clock because of a large party they were serving. At 8pm the restaurant turns into a bar that does not allow children for dinner. He said it was their problem but they needed us to leave. He didn’t offer to speed our order up or accommodate us. This is not on the website and our 7 year old son was starving and we paid to take a taxi there. This is bad business, disorganized and just rude. We had no recourse. All other restaurants in the area were booked. Terrible. Do not go there.

On the off-chance, I made a request through the Opentable app for a table with a view of the football as one of our group didn’t want to miss it. We were delighted when we arrived to find we had a perfect view and from one of their quirky “booth” tables! The score wasn’t to my friend’s liking but you can’t have everything!!

We had reservations at 7:30 but were in the area two hours early. Even though extremely busy, the waitress was able to reassign our time without any issues.

The food was as fantastic as the service.

The music selection was also tops. Any place that plays Pavement is in my good books. Will be back!

The Queens Arms called us four days before to hear if we wanted to reserve the sunday roast, so we made that reservation. But we arrived we orded our drinks in the bar ourself and we where not asked for food before after 20-30 minuts our reservation started. The dessert also came after we had waited for a long periode of time and they appologiesed for that. We where ask to leave because we had gone 13 mints past our end time of the reservation but it was of no fault of ours. So the time management was horrible and it took to long to get the food to begin with and also between main and dessert.

The chicken sandwich meal we ordered was very disappointing -
Bread was very dry
There was insufficient dressing on the sandwich
The side salad was extremely oily

We were given a 25% discount off the food order from a very understanding and polite manager. I have visited this establishment on two previous occasions and the food, on both accasions, was exceptionally good so I would return another time. Service was excellent.

The food was amazing! Second time I’ve been and it was just as good. I don’t know how they do such an amazing roast dinner but it’s so good.
It is obviously a pub and a weekend so there was a couple of matches on (rugby and football) but we didn’t mind the noise. We were at first sat in the bar area under the TV and asked to move, which was accommodated. I don’t think we could have sat under the tv with people cheering and jeering. I would definitely go again in a heartbeat

This a lovely place - both comfortable and interesting. The menu was good as was the service. Water was immediately brought up our table. Our waitress was charming and allowed us time to order. Her recommendation of the orange pudding was spot on. The good was well presented and with one exception well cooked. However two of us chose the dauphinois potatoes and these were neither well cooked nor tasty. That is why I have scored just 4 for the good. That said I would certainly go back.

Love the bar and will always come back, good food, good choice of drinks, good service and a nice atmosphere.
That said myself and others were disappointed that the football commentary wasn't put on even though it was requested by more than 1 table/customer. I understood this was due to "people still eating " but everyone on that side of the bar had finished their food and was watching the football by the end of the first half (about 9pm). When asking the barman he was also dismissive to the point of almost being rude (probably had answered the question more than once in his defence).
