The Queens Head Fyfield
Welcome to The Queen"s Head Fyfield, a traditional family run 16th century freehouse country pub, beautifully located on the banks of the River Roding. The Queen's Head uniquely feels like a pub where locals are comfortable nursing a pint of real ale, but is also renowned for good quality seasonal food in contemporary, comfortable surroundings, with friendly service and a warm ambiance. You can choose to eat at big wooden tables in the pub or, if you prefer, in the smart upstairs dining area. Ingredients are locally sourced and everything is made on site. We stock a good selection of real ales and lagers and have an extensive wine list.

We live in York, which boasts several renowned recipes, but look forward to visiting our grandchildren so that we can eat here. The menu is imaginative and well executed, and the food delicious.
A beautiful sunny day in a perfect beer garden. A day we will remember always.
The staff and service was 5 Star, so friendly and helpful. Tge drinks and food was reasonably priced and the atmosphere was very nice with good music just in the background, not overwhelming, but just loud enought to hum to. Our starters were wonderful and my husband had the
Fish and chips which he said was lovely. I didn't fully enjoy my buttermilk chicken burger. The chicken was a bit tastless and the buttermilk coating was a bit soggy. Other than that we really enjoyed ourselves and would definitely recommend a visit. I'm going to try something else on my next visit, it just may hv been an off day with the chicken burger.
This pub in the past had a very slow service problem, which seems to have been rectified. The food was delicious, and is in fact probably the best food in the area.Cosy pub and the garden looked pretty,Would definitely recommend
Lovely staff atmosphere and food but would like to see more pasta meals on the menu.
Great pub, usually go for lunch great place, friendly people. I recommend the BLT, best in Essex.
Lovely venue but as seated upstairs we seemed to have been forgotten about. Waited 20 mins to get food orders taken…that was only because we went down stairs & asked for orders to be taken
Then another 20 mins for starters..
Food arrived… but greasy which we mentioned to waiter.
A lovely meal in comfortable surroundings. A great menu. Friendly staff.
We used to come here years ago and always had an excellent dining experience, but my visit yesterday, left me a little disappointed. The pub is set in a fabulous location and we enjoyed pre-lunch drinks in the beer garden and sat down near the river, it was lovely! Only three items were on the specials board being a starter, main and dessert plus there was, of course, the main menu too. I chose the scotch egg starter which was very good, for main course I went for lemon sole, it was on the bone (I thought it might have been a fillet) but it was awful trying to get the delicate fish off the bone, and there were literally 100’s of bones … each tiny mouthful were tiny bones in the end I gave up! Four new potatoes and a little samphire was all the vegetables which accompanied it! Feeling hungry still, had a dessert of apple and blackberry crumble which was a large portion, nice, but could have done with far less dense crumble and a bit more fruit! Service very slow (we noticed only three staff serving that including the lady behind the bar) it looked as though they could have done with an extra one or two pairs of hands. I would put The Queens Head food/menu into the ‘typical local pub-grub’ category. I am not sure I would come here again, if I was passing through would stop for a drink but would not book for a lunch. Sorry, hate leaving blah and average ratings but on the other hand, I want to leave an honest review of how I found my food and overall dining experience.
I have visited the Queen’s Head on numerous occasions before and will continue to do so at every opportunity I get - I love this venue! The food is always spot on, the staff are always attentive and the ambience was perfect. Love it!
Yet another delicious family celebration meal at the Queens Head. Staff were attentive and helpful as always and the service and food was outstanding.
Very disappointed with our visit this time to the Queens Head. This pub and restaurant has always been our favourite for some time. Food, especially the ploughman’s lunch & curry, and service were not on this visit.
Consistently one of our favourites in the area. Exceptional plated food and great value compared to the local competition too!
Always a pleasure. So delicious. Friendly warm staff and the pub itself is so beautiful.
I will be going back nothing more to say really. Excellent menu
staff very pleasant, food good , very enjoyable. excellent menu, plenty of choice.
Have not visited for some years since I left the area and found it just as good, if not better
Booking a table for 5 was straightforward.
Clean, well set table.
Good choice, not an over packed, menu.
Food was hot, & tasty.
Great value for money.
Four of us went for lunch. Was not given any menus on seating. Had to ask for them. Had to ask if our order could be taken. One of our party asked twice for mayonnaise it never turned up. Steak had a blood clot in it which made me feel queazy. Service charge was added to the bill which should have been an option as the service was poor
Lovely food service ambiance
Will definitely be visiting again
Family meal. Pleasant staff but sometimes little things get forgotten like cream on a desert or an ordered jug of water for the table but food is excellent and place is lovely.
One mini gripe is unlit lighting on table. If it’s on table please light it! If it’s not lit just take it off the table please. A burnt down tea light adds nothing to the dining experience.
went for Sunday lunch. Was a nice meal, plenty of food, good selection of vegetables but roast potatoes been sitting around too long and lost all crispiness
The food was really quite nice (could have used a gravy jug as was quite dry and they forgot my stuffing!), however the service was incredibly slow. We were seated for two hours for a two course meal (we are fast eaters!).
The staff were nice, it was just a lot of waiting. Also sucked that we were directly under the speakers so could hardly hear ourselves think.
Service was exceptional , food so so good, weve dined at le gavroche recently and this far exceeds that - and value for money ? Absolutely !
Great service, good food & we’ll definitely be back!
Pleasant evening with family. Nice to go into a restaurant and not be rushed to eat meal and leave table.
Excellent food and drinks and very friendly service
Really lovely meal. Staff very attentive. Will come back.
Beautiful food as ever lovely professional service
Love the new decor colours
Only comment was broken seats in smoking area
Food and service are always great! Would recommend x
Fantastic food and the pub has a great ambience. Highly recommend.
All very good, will definitely be back again soon.
Another excellent meal with friends at the Queens Head. Very well done to everyone who looked after us so well.
Top service as ever.
Missed this place - had a drink in the garden with Rachel fantastic .
It was nice to see the young lads serving was very refreshing, so polite. Food was as always out of this world.
Can’t wait to go back I have good my children all to book up,
we never had the burgers but they looked beautiful .
Excellent food, attentive service and a relaxed atmosphere in the garden near the river.
A great front of house team to compliment the food & ambience- well done. We’ll be back to try the latest riverside garden area which looks fabulous
Lovely pub with excellent food and attentive staff. Thank you for a great meal.
A little disappointing! Was a favourite but now just another ok place. Food is good but I can pay less in London.
