The Rams Head Inn
Attended for Sunday lunch at this lovely traditional inn style restaurant with shop - wonderful food and good value for money. I will definitely be returning to try the al la carte menu one evening.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and the service good. Always enjoy having a meal there, will call again.
Myself and 5 others dined at the beautiful restaurant for a friend birthday and we very much looking forward to the experience. I ordered surf and turf and the steak very well done to be challenged by the server that it will come out really small, which I understood. he seemed to criticize the way I wanted to eat my steak, my friend wanted hers blue and he immediately commented on that's the way it should be eaten, I felt as if I had to change my preference. the steak (sirloin) came out it was very fatty and not a quality steak as expected for the price, i was flabbergasted to see id paid a £.75 for TWO PRAWNS !! and the chips were burned. the child's goujons were to hard for her to eat as they were over cooked, her mum had to take out the contents of the goujon to give to her as she is 18 months old and couldn't eat the batter it was too hard. My friends steak was luke warm. The server saw I hadn't eaten my dinner and asked if it was ok, I told him nope I didn't enjoy it as the steak was very poor quality with loads of fat and he didn't even apologies or order any alternative, we didn't want to argue, as we felt this maybe the case if we had complained, we just left and vowed never to go back, the whole experience was awful, such a shame for the beautiful pub and location. The cost of the meals was £131 so not cheap
Lovely food and exceptional service always makes this an excellent night out. On top of this there are the wonderful views of the countryside and the pantry where you can buy fresh local produce. I will gladly recommend that it to everyone.
Very enjoyable dinner with the family, the staff were fantastic we all all left very happy customers.
Excellent service and food. Excellent value for money!!
We ate mother's day meal here. We were seated quickly and our orders taken soon after. The food was lovely as were the staff. Would certainly come here again.
Took my mum for Mother’s Day ...menu was fantastic and the meals were superb.
Beautiful location with amazing staff and the deli is a nice touch as well to bring some goodies home. Will definitely be back
We had to wait a long time for food and when it came it was cold (Sunday roast). Some of the staff were very rude - You almost felt like you were being told off if you asked for something. Desserts off the Sunday set menu were poor. Starters were ok and onion bread was nice.
A winter trip to eat at the Rams Head is always welcome. Perfect and friendly service, great food and wood burner in the fireplace, what more could you want on a cold night.
Outstanding food, good service. Lovely and warm due to the Roaring fires on a very cold day. We visited for lunch & it was fairly quiet. The menu was extensive with added specials. Will definitely be visiting again.
Food good, but service gruff.
Went to the Rams Head for Sunday lunch. The welcome was as friendly as always, the staff are always really pleasant. Excellent food and the service was spot on, a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon
Always love it here 😍
Just had the 3 course Sunday Lunch at a fixed price. We had 3 courses for £20.95. The food was absolutely beautiful, piping hot, good choices and large portions. Worth every penny!!
Been there on lots of different occasions over the last 15 years it's normally ok.But this time we got served by a dark haired youg waitress she was rude had no customer service skills gave us one 🍰 menu then grunted the word yep what do you want to my wife. The three course meal was ok but not to its usual standard it was a Sunday afternoon so it was not that busy they rely on passing trade so after the vile unprofessional behaviour of the young waitress we won't be going back anytime soon we have been loyal customers and that counts for absolutely zero
I have eaten here several times however on Wednesday lunch time we were told 2 of the main courses were unavailable 20 mins later 2 starters unavailable which tells me what they did have wasn’t fresh ( they were closed 2 days previous) the waitress to a long time to take our order the what I think is head waiter bloke banged into my chair got our drink totally wrong and when we told him we were not happy with the food no apology overall bad food even worse front of house
Nice meal in a lovely venue. Pity no brisket available!
Lovely as always- great food, reasonably priced and friendly, helpful service
Lovely food in lovely place! Great table with view overlooking snowy moors!
Excellent food, beautiful scenery, lovely and welcoming owners and staff
Food was excellent, wine was lovely, very good would highly recommend
Lovely food in a beautiful setting and the staff and brilliant. Will go back
Poor selection of beer and beer glasses.
Game pie - pastry over cooked may have been cooked twice and little meat, poor flavour.
Staff could not give a detailed description of food content ie vegetarian option and which cheese was used for the stuffed cheese cake.
Lovely atmosphere and run by people who care. Log fires, Sunday roasts, extensive menu and a lovely shop to buy treats from. Ladies should visit the loo just to admire the wallpaper! Our favourite place to meet friends and catch up.
Food always very good and ambience lovely. Sometimes the service is that good you can feel a little rushed.
Lovely venue - slight problem with the fog - able to converse easily at the table - was disappointed with my dish - fish pie - All other meals were acceptable except one who found the beef a bit tough. The staff were brilliant - excellent service -
Wasn’t too happy re lack of 175ml glass of wine availability -
Great food well served. Good beer. Lovely Inn.
Having been to the Rams Head multiple times I was really excited to take some friends to try it out too. As we arrived I told the host we had booked for 6 people but 2 were babies so would need high chairs, I understand that, that was not what he was expecting but it shouldn’t have been a huge issue for a place that has a children’s menu- we were made to feel very awkward and spent the rest of the evening feeling like a huge inconvenience even though we were 1 of only 2 tables so it wasn’t like the place was busy. There was a lady who came through who was lovely and warm and said “oooh do you need a spoon for the babies? You should have just asked!” But we hadn’t as the male running it had made us feel that bad. That was the only time we saw her though.
The food was lovely, that is why I haven’t given an extremely low rating; everything was cooked well and very tasty. However there was only one vegetarian option for my friend who cannot eat anything with chive in so asked for the sauce to be left off, but it had still been poured all over when it arrived. Again we felt that awkward that we didn’t say anything.
With the price of the food being what it is, I would have expected much better when you think about the fact we had been made to feel awful and one of us given something they couldn’t eat!
Safe to say I was really embarrassed I had recommended and won’t be going with our baby again anytime soon.
Christmas Eve lunch treat with friends, excellent service and food as usual. Marked as four star and not five due to a small issue with a starter that I have dealt with directly, other than that, the Rams Head never fails to provide a pleasant setting to eat distinctly above average food. Well worth a visit.
Warm Inn out open the wet ans misty moors. Food and wine selection is great, the Chateaubriand was fabulous and very reasonably priced; that doesn't mean I'd like you to put it up :) .
A special intimate place where you can talk and eat great food.
Food fantastic, staff very friendly and always welcoming.
Lovely meal, great food. But i do feel their butter policy was a little tight, 1 slab of butter per 2 people. It felt as though there was a butter shortage? Or it was costing them a fortune to provide any more than that.
Lovely food cosy restaurant and amazing views. Good service and a nice choice and the deli shop is good to
Went here for lunch with friends. Great food and good service. Lovely and warm with the lot fires going. Will go again for sure.
This was the first time that we have had Sunday lunch at The Rams Head. The weather was awful with very low cloud over the Moors of Denshaw when we came across the inn. Parking was easy and as soon as we walked in we felt the warmth of the place with a log burner crackling away in the imposing fireplace and very friendly staff taking care of us. Once settled the service was impressive with a mix of older experienced staff who took charge of two younger and enthusiastic team members. A great selection of beers and lagers together with a solid and inexpensive wine list.
A quirky start to lunch saw them bring out a tray of mini onion loaves, home made of course. They were delicious! The lunch menu was impressive and we settled for traditional Roast Beef and exceptionally crisp roast potatoes and a selection of vegetables. This was served with delicious gravy and a giant and I mean giant Yorkshire Pudding, so light.
The meal was finished with a freshly made crumble of apples and blackberries.
Homely and attentive whilst being spotlessly clean. After lunch you can indulge in a very cleverley stocked deli that is in the next room. (The gents are also worth a look)!
Excellent value for money, The Ram's Head Denshaw is a great place and one we shall return to, sooner rather later!
Lovely food, excellent staff and service. We went for a 70th Birthday celebration and the staff really spoiled us. Will definitely be back 😊
An overall good dining experience with friends
Lovely outlook, easy access from M62, friendly welcome, excellent service, great food. What more could you want!
Nice to go for a special occasion, beautiful views over Saddleworth and the Moors.
