The Restaurant at Drakes
Very quiet due to corona pandemic. Waiters were rather concerned as in zero hours contract and the restaurant were letting them go after 5 years service and no redundancy. I’m hoping the government actions help them. Food was good but not fantastic. But expensive for what it was.
Beautiful setting and food was perfect for a birthday celebration . The special birthday plate after dessert was enjoyed by us all.
Wundervolles Essen im „Keller“ des Drake Hotels. Sehr freundliche Bedienung und für die gute Qualität sind die Preise absolut in Ordnung
Lovely! Blueberry soufflé was outstanding!
Had our 28th anniversary celebration dinner. Food excellent and looked after by Anthony. Lovely evening.
Wow wow wow! What a find. This restaurant and hotel is a hidden treasure in Brighton and Hove. The menu, service, food and wine is exceptional. Choose the taster menu. Choose amazing wines- paired or not - you will not be disappointed. This is a very special place and I will make sure this is a firm favourite and somewhere I will return to again and again.
Outstanding experience at the Drakes. The food was excellent overall with beautiful presentation, great execution and healthy combination of food options. Service was friendly and punctual. Wine list was limited but with enough options. I will certainly recommend this place.
food was superb for the price, they allowed our 4 year old to dine with us, no stringent dress code (we were tourists! ) and friendly staff. it was our most memorable event in Brighton and a great mother’s day gift (american mother’s day date)
The staff, atmosphere and food were all excellent. We were a family of 4 with young boys aged 12 and 10. Upon booking the staff advised that the chef would happily prepare simpler food if required, this was a nice gesture, but wasn't necessary. The staff and children interaction was very pleasant!
My partner and I had a great time. The food and service was spot on!
Love it and we will definitely return.
Lovely Sunday lunch. Couldn't recommend more.
The ambience and food is good. Staff is very friendly. Would be more than awesome if the restaurant was on the rooftop with views of the sea rather than in the basement.
Lovely meal. Staff couldn’t have been nicer. Food is very good. Amuse bouche are fab. All in all a great experience.
Great food, clean and professional!!!!
Very Lovely Staff, very polite Helpful, food was excellent (as in really excellent) and the cocktails made with precision detail. you get what you pay for in life.... a really lovely meal

From our arrival I was expecting great things, the reception was excellent and the staff in the dining room were outstanding. However the food did not live up to the hype. It was mediocre at best. the starter of gravadlax was slimy, tasteless and almost inedible. An addition of crab was so bland it was hard to identify any crab at all. A concoction of potatoes and another vegetable, served with the main course was tasteless. The redeeming factor was the desert, which was superb. Sorry I do not think you are the best restaurant in Brighton.
I was really surprised at how quiet the restaurant was (we were dining on a Friday at lunchtime) but the menu, service and location makes this delightful restaurant a perfect venue for business or pleasure. The set menu for lunch was delicious and with some nice choices for vegetarians too! Highly recommended!
Went to Drakes for my husband’s Birthday. We both decided to go for the tasting menu with matching wines. They were very flexible with one of the courses as one was with scallops and I am allergic so they offered me a different dish off the other tasting menu (veggie one).
The duck was my favourite dish on the night followed by the dessert. The staff then surprised my husband with an assortment of jellies, macaroons, marshmallows and chocolate where we sung happy birthday to his embarrassment . We left comfortably full and watered. Would definitely recommend. 👍
Definitely going back
Would go again just for the waiting staff very knowledgable
Hotel bar very smart upstairs for pre dinner drinks.
Restaurant staff very friendly and helped the whole experience
It was our wedding anniversary and we are so glad that we chosen this restaurant. Everything was perfect: Very warm welcome for the start by Anthony who was looking after us all evening, helping to make the right choice of wine and food. The wine (red Chilean) was the cheapest on the list but great quality, the meal was delicious, beautifully presented (we had a duck in a saffron sauce). Desert was also the most sophisticated, nicely presented with "Happy Anniversary" sign on the plate. Pleasant quiet music on the back ground made it romantic and special. This is a restaurant with personality which we would highly recommend if you would like to have unforgettable evening with someone special.
Great food at a reasonable price. Loved it. Had a bottle of the cheaper wine on the list and it was excellent. If only we had a place like this where we live, we would be in there once a week! Keep up the good work guys.
Excellent restaurant with great food and very good service
This was a birthday celebration meal & was excellent in all respects, great food, unobtrusive but extremely efficient service & a great atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Food was excellent and service from 'the Frenchman' was exemplary.
We had a fantastic time on Saturday evening. It was a family occasion enjoyed by all ages. 2 of our guests are quite fussy eaters but both tried new tastes and textures. It is expensive but would highly recommend it, particularly for a special occasion
This was our first visit to Drakes, though we had seen it recommended, and we were greatly impressed. We relished the varied, innovative, flavoursome, attractively presented food and the good wine. The gentleman who served us combined the roles of maitre d', sommelier and waiter and was polite, efficient and helpful, for example identifying and explaining the cheeses that one of us had for dessert (which doesn't always happen, even in five-star establishments). The restaurant is situated in a basement but did not seem dark or cramped - rather it was pleasantly intimate and stylish. The background music was quiet enough to allow easy conversation and you could ignore it if you weren't interested but it was also agreeable to listen to (if you like cool jazz). The value for money was excellent. Altogether a most enjoyable experience.
We went Drakes for my husband's birthday dinner! The food was brilliant and they surprised us with beautiful desserts! Great memories:)
the lobster dish was a masterpiece. wonderful menu. great wine. a truly fantastic evening.
Quedamos muy satisfechos con el servicio y la comida!! Excelente opción para una ocasión especial
Most enjoyable, great food and wine. Brilliant vegetarian option
Had a lovely meal for my wife's birthday, the food and service were amazing especially the warm complementary vegetable bread of which we kindly asked for more.
The small extras that were done for you made all the difference, well worth the extra money needed to dine in the small but perfectly formed restaurant.
This is the third time I've eaten at Drake's and every time it's a delight. The kitchen produces some very clever combinations of ingredients, incredibly well combined and perfectly executed. This time round I tried, and would happily recommend, the Ox cheek starter (Glazed Ox cheek with chervil root puree, potato crisp and port sauce), the boar steak main (Marinated wild boar steak with candied red cabbage, celeriac gratin, braised boar ragout and quince puree) and the Japanese cotton cheesecake, poached rhubarb with blood orange and Greek yoghurt ice-cream.
Service is always helpful without being intrusive and the wine list has some interesting options too. Looking forward to my next visit to Brighton!
Didn't expect such an incredibly high standard of cooking and service. We had the tasting menu with wines on a special occasion meeting someone we hadn't seen for 50 years!
Each element of the tasting menu was perfectly cooked and presented, delicious and interesting. Our very cosmopolitan visitor loved the venue too, well done The Restaurant at Drakes
A really elegant lunch. Extremely good value and staff lovely.
In the past I have only had Lunches at Drake's, this was the first time I, and four others, have had Dinner. It was as good as the Lunch experiences.
Excellent food with great service. Informative, attentive and friendly waiter. Good acoustics for business lunch.
Myself and my girlfriend had a lovely meal here on a night away! The gentleman waiter in the restaurant (I'm so sorry we can't remember your name) was amazing - very inviting, happy to help, nothing was too much trouble and not over chatty but took time to speak with us at the perfect moments. The food was amazing everything we ate from the complimentary appetisers to the Pre dessert was just outstanding - compliments to all chefs involved. Definitely go here if you are in the area - only regret is that we didn't stay in there hotel - definitely will be back without a doubt. Fairly priced and just a genuine set of staff even from the bar upstair! Thank you to everyone.
Best meal I have ever had will definitely go back and recommendations to everyone I know
