Salads were good, mushroom falafel salad was too oily as mushrooms absorbed the oil. The small plates on sticks were excellent, especially the halloumi balls. The main course of mushroom Wellington was very good but my partners cheeseburger was very average. The roast potatoes as a side dish was literally smothered in oil. We shared the Apple tart tartin for dessert and the pastry was still raw.
Service was excellent and the organic red wine was very good.
Overall summary it’s a great venue and front of staff very friendly and very good service but the kitchen staff needs to improve the quality of some of the items on the menu.
It was very average. Nothing was terrible, but nothing was particularly brilliant either. Waitress kept coming over while my friend and I were talking, badgering us about ordering - even though the place was practically empty. Another waiter spilt 3 plates of food over a lady, but it was an accident. I would go there again, but only for a casual meet up with friends.
Chorizo hash with eggs were over cooked, full English was cold, the pancakes with berries were burnt and cold.
I was recommended this place and I have been myself before with the colleague who recommended it and had a lovely breakfast. This time I visited and even though the place was quiet 0900 on a Sunday the service was terrible and the food was cold, eggs not cooked and everything else on the plate was not hot or even warm. the pot of tea wasn’t even hot. Paid the bill but refused to pay a service charge and I was questioned and debated with over why I didn’t. Poor!!
Dined here with friends on a Saturday afternoon. Wait staff were friendly and attentive, food was tasty and arrived in good time, good choice of drinks too. Loved the Mac 'n' cheese in particular!
Having been a regular at Riding House Cafe and having always enjoyed their salads, I was very disappointed in the new Autumn menu and the quality of the "bowl" I ordered. Portion size greatly reduced and the quality of the salad very underwhelming. Poor description match to the menu.
Nice menu, good food, best pancakes, friendly stuff, clean area!
Very nice food in a really relaxed environment - will be back
Lovely meal as always though disappointed with the service this time.
Pancakes tasted re heated and more like vanilla sponge. It was not fluffy like pancakes should be. The potatoes from the full veggie were try and also tasted re heated. It was honestly not nice at all and definitely not value for money.
Amazing staff- incredibly warm and accommodated our needs beautifully
A great place for brunch. Resssbly priced. Very buzzy the food was all freshly cooked. With good sized portions.
It was fully booked with a queue outside.
We were a bit pushed to get out of the restaurant after 1:30hours at the table... but the food was great
The food was great but the service awful. Asked to leave as someone else had a booked table. It was rather embarrassing and rude the way we were asked to leave. No one by the door to welcome us either. Had to wait 5 mins. Disappointing service, will not be back.
I had been with a friend for brunch. The service was quick and attentive, the quality of the food very good. Coffee was excellent. We enjoyed the buzzing atmosphere on a Sunday morning. A place to enjoy with friends.
Great food was completely stuffed and service was really good too
It was a fab place to eat. Really comfortable and welcoming
Food was really good and the place was amazing. The hostess was quite rude and the servers were nowhere to be found (except when paying the bill). Expect good food, bad service
Great welcome, attentive but intrusive service, absolutely delicious food and just the right amount. No distractions or hassle. I loved it.
Extremely loud for a business lunch and the staff were not impressed that we did not want to order food straight away. Food was okay, very small. Drinks were lovely.
Need simpler menu, too fussy. Tried too hard to add novel twists without sufficient option for a simple meal
We sat at the bar for brunch. I'd have expected much better service than we received. We often had to look for a waiter. One of the barmen accidentally overpoured a glass of champagne from the bottle we purchased. Fortunately, his manager was beside him and offered us a complimentary glass after we finished it to make up for it. He wasn't going to do anything about it. The food was very good and super quick. I'd suggest booking a table over the bar.
Service was excellent! Food was delicious!
Absolutely delicious food. Beautiful restaurant. The waitress was lovely and the staff in general really nice. The dishes themselves were fairly priced for the quality and size. The bill was pushed up by the expensive drinks, which cost more than the food and I ordered the 'cheapest' wine. But other than that, it was a beautiful meal in a beautiful space and I look forward to going again.
Excellent food and service with a lovely environment
Delicious mushrooms and poached egg ! Very friendly service though a little slow.
I used to be a huge fan of this place but sadly I don't think I'll be back. We visited on Sunday and the main issue is that they had ran out of both roast chicken and roast beef by 2.30pm. This seems like really bad planning, as surely it could be predicted that these dishes would prove popular at Sunday lunchtime, and it's not like it was late in the day. I then had to choose something else and when I asked if a certain dish could have scrambled eggs instead of baked eggs I was told a flat out "no". To be honest I've not been in a situation before where the server does not even offer to check with the kitchen staff. I was additionally surprised seeing as the server had just returned to tell me my original order of a roast was not possible; in other places they would want to ensure they can sort you out if their menu is limited in other ways. That's without even getting into why on earth a professional kitchen cannot scramble an egg! Still a beautiful restaurant in a great location but it feels like a gamble these days rather than the solid place it used to be where you were always guarantee a good meal and nice service.
Always brilliant service here. It is quite noisy and bustling so if you're looking for somewhere calm, I'd suggest elsewhere. Highlights definitely the food, cocktails and atmosphere.
We went as a family to celebrate my birthday.
We felt quite rushed as we had our table for an hour and a half and were repeatedly told that the table was booked after us. It was very noisy and difficult to hear my family. The food was delicious
Outstanding service and an excellent menu choice made for a delightful Sunday brunch. Staff are attentive and friendly and the food was delicious. Reasonably priced too. We shall be back!
Brilliant food, service and atmosphere
Another fabulous brunch at The Riding House Cafe. A real gem. A delightful respite from the hustle and bustle of busy Oxford Street. Delicious food and reasonably priced too. Looking forward to our next visit
Teapot a little small
Portion size good
Milk not fresh they was served with coffee
Refilling of water glasses great
Would have useful to be told 2 sausages in extra portion
Halloumi very overpriced
The quality of the food just isn’t up to scratch. Visited 6 years ago and hoped time would have changed it for the better. It hadn’t. Pancakes slightly burned, more like sponge cake than pancake. Veggie breakfast had two very small pieces of dry halloumi. Potatoes had a ‘plasticy’ flavour to them. Wilted and tasteless spinach. Tiny portion/half a slice of dry toast. I love brunch but I actually left some of this meal sadly. Similar experience noted by friends. As a Brit, sad to say the UK doesn’t seem to be able to compete on the world stage with breakfasts! Perhaps this place focuses on numbers through the door rather than quality of food.Real shame as ambience and staff great.
Lovely place, friendly staff and tasty food.... will definitely be heading back here.
We had an amazing breakfast for my fiances birthday. The staff were lovely and food was outstanding. As it was my fiances birthday they even brought out pancakes for him with a candle. A lovely touch. We will definitely return!
Reunion with friends
Highly recommend this venue and looking forward to my next visit.
We had a lovely breakfast of buttermilk pancakes with berries. Delicious. Absolutely satisfied. Will definitely return in future.
Pleasant staff and inventive menu! Would thoroughly recommend
