The River Restaurant at The Lowry Hotel is a 2 AA rosette restaurant and one of Manchester’s best places to eat & drink in a glass-walled, riverside setting. Our 3 course menu changes each month following the seasonal bounty and is available everyday except Saturday Evening. Our popular Sunday lunch menu is always accompanied by live music and for an indulgent treat why not sample our Champagne, Bellini or G & Tea. Executive Chef Andrew Green has created a confident new à la carte menu. Using premium ingredients & local suppliers, the menu takes classic dishes & updates them with a modern twist. Choose from an array of starters such as, the highly popular Potted Shrimp or the Beef Bresaola. Stand-out dishes include Andrew’s personal favourite the Beef Wellington which is showcased by the chef before being sliced & is one of many dishes to share between two. Fish-lovers are spoilt for choice with the delicately prepared Lowry Fish Pie or an exquisite Meuniere-style Whole Dover Sole

On arrival at the restaurant, the lady could not find my booking via Opentable and the restaurant was already fully booked. I had to show my booking to the lady in reception. I then got shown to my table. This has happened a few times whereby I have booked with Opentable and it doesn't show on the restaurant's system. Despite this I had a great Sunday lunch and the staff was so friendly and helpful

All looks but lacking substance.

Really nice looking venue where the food looks like art and tastes like.....food....mostly

My Partner and I visited fairly late on a Friday evening. It wasn't a special occasion so we agreed we would order from the 3 courses for £25 menu with a couple of sides and drinks as to not break the bank......or so I thought.

The food was adequete in flavour, service was on the slower side. The presentation if all 3 courses was lovely however for me flavour comes first and my imediately recalled memory is that my duck skin was soggy and not crispy and the banana sorbet's deserts individual flavours were terrible when not combined, and the drinks were overpriced. This is not to say the food was all bad, the side of chips were nice, and the ducks meat was tender and the chef was great with cellariac but when a venue advertises as fine dining my expectations are to be wowed.... i wasn't.
As a lover of culinary delights I will take a satisfying flavour over quantity, but I will settle for quantity if the food is average. In this instance I was left a little dissapointed on both counts. Then the bill came and with the overpriced drinks which aren't on the menu (£5 for a small bottle of Peroni) it filled me with a deep sadness that I wasted a rare Friday without the kids on overpriced little better than average food, when I can spend the same money at plenty of independant restaurants closer to home and leave feeling joyous and full.

This for me is a 100% a 1 night stand evening as it essentially showed all of the same characteristics, lovely looking, at first glance, well presented, an all in all ok experience but finished with dissapointment and guilt however I was in the car so I didn't have to do the walk of shame home.

Took ages for drinks to arrive. Wanted to take food order before drinks had arrived at table.
Stale bread at a premium price.
Too many staff on floor of restaurant all getting in each other’s way when trying to deliver food. Two or three waiters delivering and clearing tables Of food from small tables.
Staff not attentive in refilling empty wine glasses.
Overall a very underwhelming experience considering the high prices and prestigious location

Service was magnicifent. Great, without being stuffy - after asking the M'aitre D about the mashed potato on the fish pie, which was really good, he asked the chef, now I have a great mashed potato recipe! Food was great, too. Definitely will return! A thoroughly enjoyable evening from G&T in the bar through to Epresso.

If you want the Beef Wellington, make sure you arrive early or call the place in advance. I arrived there at 9 pm and there was no availability. Actually, they could not find my OpenTable reservation, but luckily there was space in the restaurant.
Apart from that, good food - especially if you use the 50% discount voucher from OpenTable.

This rating is generous. I Would give it MINUS 5 stars. The worst fine dining experience and service I have encountered. Visited to celebrate my 60th birthday. We were only given the set menu and had to ask twice and wait for the Al A Carte one! Ordered red wine and a bottle of white was presented to the table, which had to be changed for the one ordered. My wife wasn't drinking wine and asked for a gin and tonic, this took 25 minutes to arrive at the table. We had to ask where our starters were as they were so long in arriving and eventually they arrived at the table 45 minutes after ordering. We subsequently voiced our disappointment to the staff serving us. The restaurant manager approached our table to see if everything was all right with our evening. He wasn't even aware of the delay with our starters and as we were still waiting for our main courses we again expressed our dis-satisfaction with the service received and he told us he would look into this for us with the kitchen and that was the last time he spoke to us all evening! He did however send some strawberry sorbets over to try and appease us!the deputy manager eventually came to apologise for the delay and to say our meals were being plated and would arrive in a few minutes - they arrived 10 minutes afterwards! Miguel who took our original order then came over to apologise for the delay with our meals and when I explained how disappointed we were with our evening and the abysmal service received he apologised again and said he would let his manager know. We were then given the dessert menu to be told these would be paid for by the hotel for the awful service received. After ordering we were told the dessert I had ordered was not available and they had run out of it an hour ago - we should of been informed of this when the menus arrived and another disappointment for me! Before the desserts arrived, Miguel served us with some courtesy champagne as a further apology to us

we were celebrating a birthday in Manchester and wanted somewhere to eat that was special and not fast-food. at 12.30 we were the first in the restaurant so the atmosphere was a little lacking, however it did mean that we could chat in comfort. We were joined after a while with a few other guests which included a large party with small children and they seemed to be made welcome. We chose from the set menu and the food was very well presented and very tasty
we had pigeon with spiced fig and rhubarb to start - thoroughly recommend this dish!
Followed by hogget - an extremely tasty dish!
We also sampled some of the desserts - Croissant Tiramisu and a selection of ice creams and sorbets.
All in all a very satisfying lunch

The welcome was warm, the ambience was excellent, the food was excellent and the service was outstanding. We were able to enjoy a good social evening without intrusive loud music and our every need was catered for with just the right amount of care and attention from the staff who were never intrusive or overwhelming with their attention. The environment was modern and attractive together with a good traditional formal table arrangements. My friends commented that it was the best evening they had had because they could completely relax everything was catered for even the parking which was a big plus. Highly recommendable - not the cheapest of restaurants but certainly one of the best and given the quality of the evening good value for money.
