The Rose and Crown Sandridge
Great food, service, not rushed. Lovely evening.
Always like it at the Rose and Crown and really enjoyed the roast dinner. The meat was tasty and tender, the veg fresh and cooked just right. The girls serving were very friendly and helpful. Sat in the garden with quiet a full occupancy however noise not a problem.
This is a lovely old English pub, just right for the Polish visitors we brought with us. They loved the food, it was totally new to them. Some of the English contingent had been served better in other pubs, however. But then, they'd had worse. too! We're glad we ate there, though, and I'm sure our Polish friends would go there again.
Service was very good, friendly and attentive. What surprised me was that they couldn't give us long spoons for Knickerbocker Glories, and getting to the bottom of the tall glass with an ordinary dessert spoon was something of a challenge!
They fitted in a party of 14 at short notice and made excellent sandwiches for us.
Love this pub and the new menu. So friendly and welcoming x
Not the best experience I have had here. The service standards used to be higher I felt. A couple of times items were forgotten from our order. I booked several days in advance. We had requested a table outside but weren’t informed until we arrived that they are not able to reserve tables outside. Disappointing. I would have thought I deserved an email or phone call regarding the request before the booking date, if my request was not possible.
All my previous visits here have been much better and most have been exceptional with staff only too pleased to try to accommodate every request. Hopefully this was a one off. I will definitely go back and would recommend it as a great family pub that does great food. A bit on the pricey side for a pub but I think the menu here is deserving.
Fantastic food. We had all 10 (plus 2 of them twice) of the 3 for £12 dishes and they were amazing and plenty of food for the 5 of us! The fish cakes, sausage roll and scotch egg were particularly tasty!!!!
Puddings were fabulous as usual!
Staff are super friendly, helpful and patient! They don’t rush you at all.
We had a lovely time.
There was a Mexican themed menu when we dined here- food was delicious and reasonable priced. We had a lovely afternoon in the pub.
Our roasts came quickly which we really appreciated as we had just walked 7 miles and were hungry. We had a lovely round table in the snug and could relax over a delicious lunch with friends. A very pleasant and enjoyable Sunday lunch.
What a find! We were recommended this pub by some friends, we had a delicious lunch and then a lovely walk. We'll be back!
Very disappointing. Took a visiting family group here on Easter Saturday, cramped round a too small table even though rest of room empty, service at bar unfriendly, food below par generally but the 'special' fish & chips was unbelievably small - more a fish finger & a bit of battered skin. I mentioned this to the waitress but said I didn't want to wait for something else & make the group wait, particularly as 3 of us all had the fish & chips & all 3 were bad, she just shrugged. They were completely disinterested in us, we didn't make a big fuss having been brushed off before but definitely will not go back. Such a shame.
We had a lovely evening...food was great..staff were amazing as rushed off their feet due to the fundraising quiz that we were there for. Lovely pub
The gravy was gloopy, we got charged extra for a few more potato’s. No one asked how our food was. Wine glass was dirty, Won’t be rushing back.
Went on a Sunday. Starters were excellent: roast parsnip soup and crispy squid. Roasts were bland and unexciting. One of our party was vegetarian and they'd run out of the mushroom tartlet so had to settle for "ghost roast" which is roast without the meat which seemed a bit lame.
Excellent and friendly service. Great beers.
The roast chicken was really good, great roast potatoes too. The only negative was the kids meals were really expensive at £10 each.
We had a fantastic lunch here, all the food was very fresh and homemade. Will definitely be back soon!
Excellent service and lovely food. Great night out with friends.
Poor Sunday roast, meat and gravy not even warm - beef extremely chewy. Veggies undercooked, especially the boiled parsnips. Roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings were ok.
Service was very rushed and not particularly friendly.
Would not recommend and will not be back
Food was great and waitresses were very helpful and friendly. Would have got 5 stars but as our 2.5yr daughter was saying hello to a dog sitting by the fire one of the guys from behind the bar thought it was a good idea to throw another log on the fire causing embers to fall out across the floor. A warning would have been nice...
Starters of whitebait was lovely but perhaps a slice of bread ir a bit of garnish would just finish it off
As for the mains we all had coq au vin the chicken and mash was lovely but the fine beans were raw, when we said something we just got oh sorry
Ordered Almond pie fot 3 but only 1 bit left but was very nice
Swapped pie for poached pear yet again under cooked and had to cut them with a knife
Apple Tart wea not warmed up enough so the apple was cold
We had a superb meal here on Saturday night. The service was excellent. We liked the fact there was a good gap between getting our starter and main course. Food was obviously cooked there on the night and not mass produced. We would recommend.
Warming village pub with open fire. We atrted with a shared plate of baked Camembert which came with a sizeable snout if accompanying crudités. I had a really lean and tasty lamb and rosemary pie and my partner had mushroom risotto. All the food really well prepared. Service very friendly but not overbearing. A really nice evening out.
Love the rose & crown....nice fire....good service...goid food
The drinks and staff are great but the Sunday Roast we had was really disappointing, veg was hard and just steamed, other than the potatoes and the lamb was three dry slices when it was stated as 'leg of lamb'. Very disappointing as my brother and his wife had driven an hour to see us and we were taking them for lunch :(
Wonderful very dog friendly pub in a lovely part of the world . Pub was very busy with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The Sunday roast was fantastic. Will be returning regularly without doubt .
The R&C is a lovely friendly cosy pub. I have been lots of times in the week or on a Saturday and every time has been wonderful. The food is amazing and there’s always lots of choice. However I probably wouldn’t return on a Sunday as it was so busy and noisy.
Lovely Sunday lunch spot. Clearly super busy but we were seated quickly and all food orders were taken quickly and delicious roast and pudding served in good time. We weren’t rushed at all. Very friendly staff considering how busy it was. Would definitely go back
Friendly, professional staff.
Food arrived quickly. Very fresh and tasty. The portion sizes were ample.
Extremely good value for money.
We will return again soon to sample some of the other delights on the menu.
Thank you for an enjoyable lunch.
My brother has just moved into the village so we took a punt. Nice pub, friendly staff, excellent food. Will come again.
It's a lovely, cosy and welcoming pub. It has two open fires, good food, parking and a small beer garden.
We had a lovely meal on New Years Eve. The 2 of us opted for the Venison stew which was superb.
Fantastic visit to the Rose & Crown, great food and friendly staff.
Booked table on Boxing Day for 8 people (for 2.15pm) over a month in advance. Arrived to be told that 2 of the options from their limited Christmas menu were finished and that others options might also be finished also, as they were just in the process of taking an order for a table of 27. This meant there were absolutely no options available for the 3 x vegetarians in the group. Reason given was 'we weren't expecting this number of walk ups'.
My brother owned and ran a leading gastropub for 15 years. I can only agree with his comment that "there is absolutely no excuse to run out of so many options on a small menu on one of the most important dates in the restaurant calendar year".
Be sure to set your expectations accordingly if you book a table after 1pm on a busy day, and good luck if you're a vegetarian.
The pub was very busy, hot and noisy.
Our table was ready and was big enough to seat the 5 of us.
There was a good choice of drinks but the food was a disappointment.
We had to wait ages to place our order and again for the food to arrive.
Our starters of squid and bacon salad were good, our main course was a disappointment, the portion of venison stew was dry and the mash potato was solid.
Our pork dishes were missing the apricot stuffing and the veg was under cooked, parsnips not roasted, Brussels hard and carrots way past their best.
We have been to the Rose and Crown several times before and were looking forward to the meal.
We won't be going back.
The food was lovely. Enjoyed my first Christmas dinner! I also rate the staff very highly, the service
was very good. I did sit on a wobbly chair however, which might need looking at.
Great food and service we were well looked after as a group..
Great as always, friendly staff, tasty food and lovely atmosphere
Lovely atmosphere and excellent service. I’ve marked down the food simply because the vegetarian offering was really poor - the ‘ghost roast’ of ‘all the trimmings without the meat!’ was the only item on the menu. I would have expected at least one ‘proper’ vegetarian offering but the staff confirmed this was all they had. Shame as the rest of my meat eating family had great food.
Great choice of food and lovely atmosphere we had a nice evening
We had a lovely spacious table in the window for our party of 5. There was enough choice to suit our tastes - and it was refreshing to find a pub that does not serve everything with chips. The food was tasty and portion sizes ideal for the hungry! The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly.
