Very nice burgers, I'm glad they do gluten-free buns!
Excellent pub experience. Really good staff, nice food, fast service. Faultless.
Pub grub with a twist this is a step up from standard pub food without going too `gastro` I recommend the chicken and waffles, lovely.
Very cool pub, good music too! Had a good selection of beers. Will come back.
Great food and drink. Perfect spot for any day or a Sunday lunch with the trimmings. Service with a smile, too.
Beautiful food and very friendly and attentive staff
Early Thursday evening visit and pub busy. Table booked at front of bar but took a quieter one in back room. Top notch service from staff members. Food reasonable and hit the spot which rounded off a very enjoyable evening at The Rose. Well worth a visit.
It’s was great place, we were sitting by the door so it was a bit chilly, staff were great, definitely be back soon
Great service ....staff are friendly ....dinner came quickly and was delicious !!
Excellent service, good beer and tasty food. Would recommend and would definitely visit again. One of my favourite pubs in SE1.
I was impressed by the attentive and super friendly service of the bartender
Great as always, good food and ambience. Great selection of beers too!
Booked a table for lunch to catch up with an old colleague. Had cod and chips, the portion was massive and really lovely and fresh. The staff were really nice too. They also have a very decadent menu - including chicken and waffles which is definitely great for comfort food. It's a very pleasant experience, definitely recommended.
Great pub just a stones throw away from the Shard. Amazing food and perfect for Vegans! It’s rare to find a pub that serves so many delicious vegan pub food and The Rose really did this well. Great choices of Beer as well.
Nice pub, not too quiet. Great for a Sunday roast with friends.
Had a delicious Sunday roast here, great choice of beers too!
I read good reviews but was very disappointed with The Rose. There were a couple of minor issues, for example we booked a table with specific requirements (my dinner guest is disabled) which weren't met. We were supposed to be celebrating a special occasion so ordered bubbly, which arrived warm in an ice bucket with no ice in (why?). When I asked for a cold bottle, staff took our full glasses and warm bottle away very promptly and bought the bottle back with some ice added to the bucket. So we paid through the nose for half a bottle of half-warm prosecco.
Most disappointing was the food though, because it had great potential. The veg was fresh, the meal was nicely prepared, but completely ruined by being covered in ready made bisto-type gravy. What could have been a great dish was turned into cafeteria food for the sake of a few pence. It's a real shame.
I never usually leave negative reviews for restaurants as I'd rather give the benefit of the doubt and accept that sometimes mistakes happen. But when we visited The Rose, we paid the best part of £100 for a very disappointing and frustrating experience. We'd chosen The Rose because all the reviews we read promised it was very good, with a high quality of food, and an excellent venue for a special occasion. Unfortunately, none of this is true and I can't in good conscience *not* leave a review to warn others not to make the same mistake.
Good food and a lively venue, friendly service with minimum fuss. Pub grub as it should be.
Both the Sunday roasts chicken and beef are very good. Service here a bit slow but otherwise a good experience
Great pub and really friendly staff. The food is good but don't expect anything too healthy, most things are fried (but still tasty)!
I have been to this pub before and the food used to be amazing. There is a new menu and it's just your usual pub food now. We had burgers which were average, not good not bad. The vegetarian burger was so greasy that my friend didn't finish it.
I won't go back anymore unless the menu goes back to more restaurant style food than average pub grub.
Food and service was excellent. Very interesting seitan options for vegans. It is quite expensive for the portion size though.
Lovely roast - I had chicken which was delicious and the cauliflower cheese was a winner.
Nice relaxed atmosphere and reasonable prices
Very relaxed atmosphere with lovely food and friendly prompt service
Excellent service and a really great Sunday lunch - we had a burger, two Bermondsey parmos (sensational) and the roast chicken and all were excellent.
It's not a pub you will pass by accident, but its one worth tracking down.
Cracking roastie and not hectic - perfect for a Sunday afternoon
Simple, short menu but some interesting choices. Caters for Veggie and Vegans too.
Relaxed atmosphere and friendly service. Give it a try. Also does Sunday roasts.
Food wasn't up to much, it wasn't awful just not very good. And the table booked was next to the door, which apparently was something to do with a computer. They were very accommodating in moving us to a better table to the. The beer is good in this place, won't be eating again though
The waitress serving food was surly and needed a refresher in the art of customer service. Throwing her eyes up in the air each time she was asked for something isn't exactly professional...or am I missing something?!
We arrived hungry and we left full. It's a nice pub and we were sat opposite the open kitchen, so we could see the food being prepared. The food is well cooked and very tasty, but don't go there if you are on a diet!! We will be back.
Good food and interesting menu with traditional pub staples too. Very busy (I'm glad I booked) and pretty noisy - but hey, it's a lively, vibrant bar. Very dim lighting wasn't particulary suited to eating, though.
The vegan chick'n and waffles was really excellent! There is a very good menu for Sunday lunch, including 3 nice looking vegan options. Nice atmosphere, nice place.
Always loved this pub but better since new owners brought in a new menu and great value !
Tasty food , good choice offering specials of the day to you Truffle burger!
The Rose is a nice pub. Visit it regularly for a pint after work. The food however was awful. Virtually no veggie options, the fish was off, the steak was as tough as old leather, chips frozen. I wasn’t expecting gastro pub standards but this was terrible. Will stick to beer and crisps in future
Met up with a friend for a chat and a bite to eat. The menu was simple but the food we ordered was lovely, hot and served with a smile....
They’ve done a good job at smartening this place up. Decent if unremarkable pub grub. Friendly staff just about coping with festive chaos. The Negronis out-performed the wine. Worth a look.
Our reservation seemed to have been overlooked! They fitted us in on a high shared table at the front of the pub - completely unsuited for eating so had one drink and left!
Have been here a few times previously and always been brilliant. Based on other reviews I understand it has changed hands fairly recently.
Food - the roast beef was good but not as good as previous visits. Seemed like it had been re-cooked on a grill pan. Yorkshire pudding was undnercooked
Service - not sure if they were understaffed but service was slow for getting drinks and paying. Food was served in a good time
Ambience - it's a nice restaurant. shame they got rid of some of the old tables
Value - still pretty good value for a roast dinner in London.
We'd been to The Rose twice before, in 2016 - and were always wowed by the ambience, decor, and the lovely menu (including a very wonderful lamb plate for two). Since then it seems to have undergone a refurbishment, both of venue and menu. We might have known this, with the current menu shared on OpenTable, but had our fingers crossed that that was a one-off menu.
Sadly not. Afraid it seems to have lost some of the character it once had - some of the copper topped tables now replaced by banquette seating and high stool tables near the bar - and the menu is now smaller (only one dessert choice) and not really anything that distinguishes from other pub food. The food's good - no doubt about that - but no longer, for us at least, a pub worth travelling to.
Lovely pub with great décor. I hadn't been for a couple of years so the 'new' booths were cool. Good food too and service. My only gripe is the beer selection on draft. I like craft beer, the only thing of note is Brewdog Punk IPA - not very well kept. Usual range of standard Beavertown cans. For a pub so close to Bermondsey I would expect some of the local beers to make more of an appearance. The only thing letting the place down.
