We have visited this restaurant a number of times for both lunch and dinner and standard of excellence is maintained.
The service are wonderful and the food is of a consistent high quality while the wine list is varied and great. The atmostphere is friendly and relaxed and enhances the overall experience and we will certainly be back soon
We sat in the conservatory... too close to the extremely noisy bar where some people had clearly been drinking all day. We could not hear each other across the table, which did not make the meal a social experience. Bearing in mind that three of the party live abroad and we do not see each other even annually. It would have been nice to be able to talk without shouting and leaning across the table.
There was a party upstairs on the terrace, and when one man arrived he decided to drop his pants and "moon" - seemingly funny to him, but his white bottom was off-putting to all of us. Even my 21 year old son commented on him bending forward so much that he could see the man's balls! This man was sadly allowed in and served.
We have eaten at RB several times before, and yes, the food was good as was the service. We will come again, but not on a bank holiday weekend when people have too much to drink and lose all respect for other guests.
The staff was really helpful and the meals delicious.
It is my second time to this restaurant and I will come again in the future.
There were 5 of us in a booth for a reunion. What we`d hoped for was a long leisurely lunch and time to chat, and it surpassed our expectations. Service was attentive but not in our faces, timings between courses perfect, and food lovely.
We didn`t feel rushed and the bill didn`t arrive until we ask for it.
A perfect afternoon. Will definitely be back.
Lovely food. I had the pasta with mushrooms - fabulous!
Have been several times previously, like the general decor and ambience. Menu was very limited - fish, offal or red meat. Out of the limited choices we had the steak, which was a chewy piece of meat, that had been described as something special on the menu - it wasn’t!
Staff were quite miserable, nobody smiled once! We were brought the bill at the end of the evening (without asking) then told they were closing - we hadn’t finished our drinks - it was not even 11!
Unimpressed and will be choosing a new venue next time - very disappointed
We had a Sunday roast, table booked at 2.45.
I didn’t like where we got seated, table 6, right next to the kitchen doors and constant passing waiting staff traffic. There was an empty one next to the window which would have been preferable.
I asked for some smoked almonds, they never came and wasn’t offered an explanation or alternative.
The roast itself was disappointing. The veg were below expectation and all the potatoes were hard, most unpleasant, what seemed like the redult of them being cooked way before being served. On th up side, the beef was good. Overall a beautiful ambience and location but the food was disappointing to say the least, considering what we paid.
We just loved the whole experience and the duck pate was amazing
Great evening thanks to friendly helpful staff, great food and a nice table in a booth.
Looking forward to a return visit.
Relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff. Food was excellent although Saturday lunch menu is limited. Will definitely return!
We had been looking for a place to meet with friends for lunch and the Rupert Brooke was recommended and proved to be most enjoyable. There was comfortable seating for a pre-lunch drink before going to our table in the light and bright conservatory, and the food was absolutely delicious.
Disappointing. Ceaser salad with a burger was a few lettuce leaves. Burger average. Salmon and a tiny bit of mash and a couple of leeks for £15 was below average.
Very disappointed, have eaten here a few times and chose the venue for my wife’s birthday... the menu was very limited and when served my wife’s meal was not cooked and mine was over cooked.
Simple dishes spoilt.
Lovely restaurant. Great décor and atmosphere. Food was of a high quality and great service.
Excellent food and quick/friendly service. Recommended.
Very good friendly staff
Great food. Great location. Friendly helpful staff
Food okay salad which was on the plate presentation not good
Except for a cold xoffee being sent back very good I will return
Delicious meal in a modern setting a few miles from Cambridge. The menu offered a good selection of choices; meat, fish and vegetarian. Everything was delicious. Service was efficient and unobtrusive.
We visited for our Valentine’s Day evening meal, got a very friendly greeting and our waiter was lovely. Our food was very tasty however, very small portions. It was a little quiet in there - would’ve liked the music up a little bit as we could hear a lot of other conversation. When the kitchen was getting closed down there was a younger lad shouting quite a bit and it was ruining the atmosphere however, he did soon get told to keep the noise down which we appreciated. Overall, would recommend and come again, thanks.
It was a Monday evening and we were the only diners.
Our reservation was for 6.45 and when we sat down we were advised that the kitchen was closing at 8.15pm.
Service was OK and the food was fine.
Only one steak left on the menu 8pm on a Saturday night was very poor. The sea bass was very small, also the last one. Decided not to have dessert as the menu didn’t arrive. Maybe we were unlucky and there were staff shortages. Would go again for drinks only as the building was lovely.
Didn't get 5he table we asked for.
Food was good but very small portions had to order sides to fill up on. Nothing chicken on menu either.
Very often done out here but could do with a bit more selection.
Chicken would be great.
Over all good.
Love Grantchester. This place is nice to sit in and the service was good. Food was delicious.
Lovely setting however the service was slow and the food was poor quality. However this was acknowledged by the manager who removed several items off the bill which we appreciated. Overall we had a lovely lunch, just a shame the food wasn’t up to scratch.
Lunch with a dear friend for my 50th - we both had fish cakes with picketed fennel salad - delicious but one of my fish cakes had 2 lemon pips in it so they not great when you crunch them!! Could have done with more of the pickled fennel salad - it was over run with green salad. Nice but just the balance not quite right for me and don’t remember the green salad being mentioned on the menu only the fennel. Caramelised rice pudding was absolutely delicious but no mention on menu of the sprinkling of coconut on the top which was divine for me but would have resulted in an allergic reaction had my husband have been with me and feasible for him to have picked rice pudding! So all lovely but as always with these places drinks horribly expensive! I’ll be returning as my comments only constructive criticism not complaints xx
Meal was good except the Lobster soup which was not very tasty.
It was ok, we had roasts and all were cold with undercooked brusell sprouts and potatoes. Not ideal and rather expensive, my daughter had sea bream but her fish was tiny. Puddings were ok though. We went because we likeed the village but our meals have varied over time, we have visted a few times and this one was not good value.
A mixed bag really. My wife had a sirloin steak which she asked for medium rare but came out almost well done. She said she's had better steak at home. Her toffee dessert was oversweet. My food was fine though burger main portion was ungenerous. Nice atmosphere but the quantum and quality of the food detracted.
Absolutely delicious mushroom wellington 😋
The service wasn’t great! Had to remind the waitress for drinks and a long wait between courses, despite being quiet.
Liked the decor and ambiance.
Great food but service slow. It was frequently hard to get the attention of staff who were chatting to each other behind the bar. We felt like we were an inconvenience.
Really nice attentive staff, food great and well presented. Portions on the small side bit cold in the conservatory (it was cold out).
Nice Resturant: long wait for our mains but all in all good
Not my best experience here. A shame as previously good. Limited menu. Service slow. Disappointing
Have been visiting Rupert Brooke for a number of years and enjoyed the visit as usual with excellent food which was enhanced by superb and friendly service. The Lunch menu is varied from the set lunch to the A La Carte and the quality is extremely good especially at a very busy service.
I took my wife for a surprise evening meal . Booking via the online system, very easy and quick. Seated straight away and promptly given menu . Not a huge choice but that said what was on offer was more than enough for us. My water was quickly brought but my wife’s wine had to be reminded twice and only came during her starter.
Quality of the food I would describe as higher end dining. Not huge portions but large in taste and presentation which we prefer to large heaps of food .
All 3 courses I would rate as excellent with my wife describing her desert as perfection .
Service very good except for the wines late show.
I was impressed with the cost against quality having paid a lot more for far less quality at so called better restaurants.
For our first visit we came away very happy in all aspects. Quality, price and service all better than we expected.
We look forward to our next visit very soon.
We frequently eat at the RB, every time we go it never disappoints. The food is always excellent and is consistently good. It’s easy to park, staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Menu is always varied, so always a good choice for everyone. I strongly recommend the RB for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or supper. It’s one of my favourite places to eat.
Great lunch. Chef made a ‘bespoke’ vegan salad for me, though he was happy to adapt any of the meals on the menu (probably the steak wasn’t an option!). The other guests chose from the standard menu and were very happy with their meals.
