Excellent Sunday lunch. Good selection of vegetables and perfectly cooked beef.
Our server, Sebastian, was attentive and efficient.
Have already recommended to friends !
We had a nice meal, although there were several things no longer available on the menu. The scallops starter was particularly good, but I had to ask for a part of my main course to arrive (it was in a separate dish, forgotten).
We had a family meal and the food was very good and the staff very attentive.
We have been before and loved eating there but this time it was very poor . I had the Hock for a starter and if I’m honest had this awful after taste similar to when you are physically ill and run out of food to bring up. Sorry but that’s what it tasted like !!
My wife had the rib eye steak and whilst the meat was well cooked it had an awful lot of fat which I don’t think should be in a £24 steak.
Sorry if this not what you want to read but was wonderful last time has gone to poor this time.
On a positive note the decor etc is great, nice buzz about it. Unfortunately that’s where it ended. The service was dismal. After a 15 min wait We had to ask if we could order drinks then ended up collecting them ourselves from the bar as they’d forgotten to bring them. After another long wait had to ask if we could order. The food was very mediocre. After finishing the mains we sat for a further 25 mins without anyone coming near us. When they finally did we decided to give dessert and coffee a miss and asked for the bill. The waitress brought it but we sat again for ten mins and no one came back so we went to the front and asked if we could pay . We could easily have walked out without paying and no one would have noticed. The waitress had zero personality with none of the usual niceties. There really is no reason to ever go back to this place and it’s not cheap either. You would expect more.
Menu looks good and varied. Open style kitchen is clearly a feature but would be more appetising if there were less piled up plastic food storage containers on the food shelf and not great to see your food plated out using hands. All waiting staff young (sixth form) and could be great with a bit of training.
We had always passed this place and always wanted to dine here! Finally got round to booking and was not disappointed, it’s relaxed it’s cozy it’s a very nice design and we really loved the food and the friendly staff! We will be back again not just once but on a regular basis!
The service was really good, non intrusive, professional and efficient. We were in the conservatory which was great as the main area beside the bar was noisy with children very prominent. Lovely space in the conservatory and tastefully decorated. The Sunday lunch menu was really good, wide spread of choices. The food was sourced well and of a high quality but unfortunately it wasn’t hot and I would have appreciated more vegetables. Portion size let down the experience.
Mushroom risotto was terrible- very few mushrooms, lacks taste, looked like it had been reheated from lunch time - set solid. Game casserole - mostly potato. Black potato mash- tasteless. Sharing plate was the best part of the meal, but served without plates! We will not be back!
Great food - delicious prawn starter. Service very friendly
It was our first time dining here and were thoroughly impressed with the food, service, and setting. We ate in the restaurant area and can highly recommend the Rupert Brooke. We had starters which were on the generous side to say the least and the roast beef which was full of flavour and again a generous portion. overall a great find and will look forward to returning.
Generally a great experience let down only by lack of service at the end of the meal. We waited an extraordinary length of time for coffees and the bill. Had that not happened we would have been impressed. We will visit again in the hope such details are resolved.
Admittedly we went at lunch time so it was not too bad noise wise, but not sure what it would be like with a full restaurant. However, the food was very good, well set out on the plate and there was a good choice as two of our party were vegetarian. Would definitely return if we are in the area.
Excellent food and great ambiance. Let lovely staff. Highly recommended.
Although a good restaurant it has the advantage of being very disabled friendly; one of the reasons we used it. A disabled parking bay or two by the back door would be an advantage.
The Rupert Brooke is definitely worth a try. Its a perfect place to eat great food in a very nice environment. The staff are friendly, the food is excellent and the restaurant itself has a very nice swanky feel to it, without being overpriced. We will definitely be going back with friends and family.
The menu is excellent, and the food was presented really well and tasted wonderful.
Everything was right about the lunch - nothing to criticise apart from the absence of a set lunch being so soon after the seasonal break.
Very nice food and hospitality - I enjoy Sunday lunch there after cycling from Cambridge
So disappointed with this restaurant and the service - particularly the manager that I cant even be bothered writing a review. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere.
Lovely meal out with sister and Mum. Couldn’t fault the food or the service. Best meal I’ve had out in a while. Well done 👍
One main course (Duck) not hot and had to be sent back. Took ages for replacement (ideally the other main would have been replaced, too, so that we ate together?). Would have been less disappointing if there had been proper apology, or even offer to reduce the bill. Restaurant not that full, but we had to constantly look - or call for - attention. General feeling that no-one really cared if we returned or not. Restaurant needs to look seriously at these points.
Friendly, fabulous and warm atmosphere. Comes highly recommended in my book
Attentive service, delicious food. Plenty of space
Service slow, we had to go up to the bar and order. They had said they would take our order soon, but we waited nearly 15 mins before they even came to offer drinks. They weren't even all that busy. It was a weekday early lunchtime. We also had to ask 3 times for a jug of water. The so called Cauliflower "steak" was just flavourless florets, and barely cooked. Poor value for what it was I am afraid.
Most of us enjoyed our Sunday lunch. However, the cauliflower 'steak' was barely cooked and not steaked. It was a whole head that had barely seen the grill. We did mention this and were told the chef thanked us for our feedback but we weren't offered an alternative or price reduction. We were seated in the conservatory as we had requested a well lit table, however the sun blinded us during most of the meal. Wished for cloud! Perhaps some blinds could be installed as awning was no match for the low winter sun. Apart from those negative points, it was a good meal and experience and we would certainly go again.
Delicious food with excellent menu selection, lovely atmosphere and great service. Highly enjoyed my birthday lunch at the Rupert Brooke. Would definitely recommend.
Attentive staff, good food at a reasonable cost. What more could you want.
Bit disappointed, portion sizes were a bit mean. Mushroom risotto was not hot and had not been seasoned. Dessert was good
Brilliant service love how we can take our time over the meal and not fueled rushed. Food was very good and the Christmas decorations are amazing
I was very surprised to find out that they had run out of the only steak on the menu at 7.45 on a Saturday night!!
We had a bottle of prosecco in a cooler on our table so there was not much room. So we put the 4 unused glasses on the edge of the table thinking someone would remove them, but no not even when they brought out our starter!!!
Excellent all round.
Good food but could have been hotter and more of it. Staff as always attentive and pleasant. Atmosphere nice already Xmas ready
We really enjoyed our meal. I would have liked more choice on the menu.
The staff were very attentive and friendly
Bizarrely, they elected to char grill the toast and also char grill the roast chicken. The roast potatoes were shocking and the Yorkshire puddings the texture of crisps. I had a strong urge to go to the kitchen and give the chef a lesson in roasties and Yorkshires. The staff were nice though
Restaurant was really quiet and stayed that way - staff were indifferent and service poor - food was underseasoned and I choose the fish which was soggy with butter and I couldn’t eat it - we have been here before a year ago and would now not go back again - so disappointed as it was my daughter’s birthday and was looking forward to a lovely meal -
Very good meal in a friendly atmosphere. Service was very very good and staff were very friendly.
Lovely food with good service. Will happily return.
Tiny portion size (goats cheese tart - pathetic) / staff keener on talking to each other/ off hand welcome / poor
Brilliant location and fantastic staff - they even held our table as one of our party was lost! Would definitely go again and make sure it’s a sunny day and to for a walk along Grantchester Meadows
