The Rupert Brooke
The Rupert Brooke is a wonderful restaurant, serving tasty and well-presented food. I suspect that COVID does impact the ambience a bit, with the general feeling being a bit impersonal - but I can forgive it that. Generally, much recommended :)
Great service, good covid restrictions, delicious rice pudding and best espresso martini I’ve ever had.
Quality of the steak could have been better and was overcooked even though I’d said I’d rather it undercooked as at least then it could be put back in the pan :)
We had a splendid meal, great service and a pleasure not to be rushed which allowed us all to savour the meal and company.
From the moment we arrived we were made very welcome we enjoyed the hole experience thanks very much regards joe
Nice sunday lunch - Beef not overcooked - - and not overly expensive for Grantchester. We sat inside and it was comformtable
The meat items were very good, but vegetarian options were sparse and unimaginative - even though we enquired beforehand and assured that there was a choice
Visited for our Anniversary on Saturday evening. An absolutely fantastic meal, couldn’t fault a thing. The staff, atmosphere and presentation was first class and the food delicious. Thank you all
We had a very Covid safe enjoyable meal and it was such a treat, thank you for making it a fab night out with amazing food after 5 months of not eating out
Big fan of The Rupert Brooke and can see the team is trying hard to keep current service close to what it used to be despite the complications. We’ll be back again because we want to support this restaurant but just a bit disappointing to see ‘heritage tomato salad’ appear as an obviously plain supermarket tomato chopped into quarters; and a frozen sticky toffee pudding only partially defrosted. Not your usual standard so we’ll chalk it up as bad luck just this once! Avocado bruschetta, and all of the main courses, were great though, and service was cheerful and relaxed.
Wonderful lunch on the upstairs terrace. The staff were very accommodating. Will definitely come back.
Came here for dinner on a friday night and let me just say thank you.
Friendly service, relaxed not to much, and the food was amazing. You can see right through to the kitchen.
Good atmosphere, good wine, great food.
Visited this afternoon using the EOTHO voucher and was very impressed. Food was amazing and the service friendly and relaxed.
During these times we need to help our local businesses more. Me and my wife will definitely return.
Second visit in 2 days, amazing service and great food from Joe!!
Me and my partner both came here for some lunch we opted to try the main pork and lamb dishes both cooked super.. well done chef.
Service was great we felt truly looked after.
I'm sorry to see a few bad reviews on here, would defo return!!
A nice venue, friendly service but a bit slow at times although it was quite busy. It seemed like they could do with more waiting staff but I guess it's difficult to judge in the current situation. Food was good but the Nicoise salad could have been a little more substantial. Fish and chips were nice. I would return.
Very accommodating waiter when my husband asked for a drink Which was not on the menu. Very fast service with the food. Great flavours too
Lovely, friendly atmosphere. Really nice staff. Great wine. Food very disappointing. Lamb and pork both raw so had to return them, didn't want another meal cooked but was offered discount. Spoilt our evening. Out of 6 tables, we saw 3 tables return undercooked meat!!
Firstly let me say the food was great.... However, the waitress was pretty clueless, they put us in what can only be described as a corridor bergen the two restaurant areas (yes we did book in advance) the waitress took our drinks order but where I would have expected s bar man to make my bloody mary she clearly had not made one before... I asked for extra tabasco... Then had to call her to ask for a stirrer... Then she brought over our bottle of water and glasses with no ice... The the starter, I had the soup, which was lovely however no butte provided with the bread... Called her over again for this... Then the mains sat at the cou ter with the chef ringing the bell four times before the young staff could drag themselves away from taking to each other to serve our good.... What was meant to be a nice family meal was like pulling teeth to get any level of service.... My advice employ older more responsible staff who cares about customer service... Don't go there for the service... Again I reiterate, the food was lovely?!
Friendly and comfortable place to eat. The meal was good especially the fish & chips and sticky toffee pudding. We were less impressed with the avocado bruschetta starter which was bland due to a lack of seasoning and the actually bread was the size of your little finger.
But we would go again and just have main meals.
Great good and excellent value using the voucher system available on the website.
We were a bit puzzled by some of the reviews that were not too complimentary. Three of us visited and had dinner on the balcony which is a great spot. The food was excellent. Ham hock croquette, truffle pea puree, confit poached egg for two of us and Pan seared scallops, pea puree, bacon lardons for one - which were excellent though not sure about cold poached egg. We all had Roasted pork tenderloin, Pommes Anna, caramelised apple, blackberry jus, braised pork and chestnut croquette which was really very good - well laid out and superbly cooked. Two of us had space left for Cambridge burnt cream, ginger biscuit, which is a favourite. The biscuits appear home made and were flavour some, such that my wife stole half of mine.
This really is a good restaurant and the service was efficient without being over pushy.
Relaxing lunch with full adherence to COVID-19 rules, but otherwise feeling normal. Food fine, but very little choice for vegetarians
A perfect post-lockdown venue
Everything was just as we remember it but also was ideal for social distancing.
We sat on the roof-terrace in the sun underan umbrella.
All very sociable -nice people at the other tables to chat with.
Good gin selection and wine.
All 3 courses were great - presentation, choice and taste. WELL COOKED, CHEF!
All food was good bar the steaks, they were very very poor quality meat - not really fit for sale. Otherwise though we had a lovely evening.
Starters and puddings were tasty but main courses were disappointing, over cooked meat and a vegetarian salad that was very average. Staff seemed to ignore us on arrival and not attentive once we were seated, had to go and look for them!
We enjoyed our food and the service was good. We found the combination of loud music and the kitchen extractor fan made it hard yo have a relaxed, quiet conversation, and made it difficult for two of our party who are hard of hearing to hear
This was a good experience. My only small quibble was that the burnt-cream dish was served, apparently, straight from the fridge, or, perhaps, after an interval, from the freezer, so it was cold throughout. The accompanying ginger biscuit, thougl, was excellent.
The Instagram looks much more impressive than the reality of the restaurant. It’s OK but not great.
I felt that the salad Nicoise was overpriced and lacking sufficient ingredients. I recall going to the Rupert Brooke some years ago when it was a pub full of character. It seems to have been modernised and lost all its' charm.
Really nice ambience, helpful and attentive staff, tasty food... we'll definitely be going back.
Very nice environment and excellent service. The food was very good and very relaxing afternoon sitting on the sunny roof terrace.
Due to these strange times it’s hard to appreciate the facilities as I understand it’s working under extreme pressures but that does not excuse service behaviours or standard of food if you are open and wish to offer a service and ask for full payment then you need to provide a service and food to acceptable standards starters was cold but I didn’t complain and my roast dinner was minimal with a very nuked Yorkshire pud we declined sweets again not one to complain but times are difficult for everyone and when one chooses your establishment to spend their very precious pennies it would be nice to have back a standard that is expected sorry I do hate to leave feedback when it’s not so good
Lovely food, nice waiter who took our orders and served our food. Good place for a roast dinner!!
Had the Sunday roast and was very well cooked. Unfortunately the waiters were very unexperienced
I assume they had an off night, as my partner had eaten here previously and had commented on how good it was. Wasn’t made to feel particularly welcome, and then we were sat at a table in front of the kitchen which made seeing anything impossible due to the very bright lights. We were moved on request (good service) and ordered our food without issue. The starters I did not consider good value....the scallop dish consisted of one scallop that had been sliced into three....the main courses were just Ok, but should comment that the burger we ordered sat under the heaters for 15 minutes before being served with the other main course, and it looked like it had been thrown on the plate with little finesse. TWe ordered more drinks between courses , but they took 20 minutes to arrive even after reminding the staff twice. Whilst waiting, many of the staff members were laughing and joking with the barman so being busy was not an excuse. We chose not to stay for dessert and coffee for these reasons. I appreciate they were busy on the night, and that at 20.30 we arrived at the back end of the service, but the overriding feeling was a business that did not take pride in their food, and although pleasant the staff were clearly not trained very well.
Lovely meal out
I always enjoyed this restaurant for food and service. But this time probably due to the Eat Out scheme, I was very much disappointed.
Stake was awful. Difficult to chew, couldn’t swallow. Although staff were kind, we had to wait to long. Wait to get the bill, wait to bring paying machine. They seemed to be overwhelmed with too many guests and untrained staff.
Fabulous evening, lovely atmosphere, superb food.
Attentive waiter, especially like the open kitchen
First visit in a while what a disappointment. The food was below par even with Government Dine Out You can get a better burger and sweet locally, at a similar or less price. The Sticky Toffee Pudding was dry and wasn’t helpful with a lack of sauce and the ice cream was the wrong flavour as stated on the menu. Attention to detail was sadly lacking. The wine was ok but £9-50 for house red was a little over the top. Would I recommend a visit sadly not especially as I wanted the experience to be a success. Rest assured I wasn’t looking for a cheap meal. I am happy to pay for good food but this wasn’t the case. Hopefully the management will take on this as constructive criticism. It is made so that improvement can occur and hopefully I will then return. Currently not good value for money.
Always very friendly staff and greeting.
Food was excellent.
Cutlery presented in sealed envelope for protection. Plenty of hand sanatiser stations.
Excellent value with Dine out offer.
