Very disappointing and rather expensive. There are better places around at this level. Wouldn’t return.
Great food, great service. Would highly recommend. We will be coming back soon.
You used to use fresh vegetables and good pork. You do not now. And you seriously ask for a review?
My friend has had a pretty rough year so far having lost both her parents within 4 months of each other. I took her out for dinner to give her some respite. She managed to laugh a little and welcomed the change of scenery. The food was good although they had run out of our first choices but there was still enough on the menu to tempt us. We thought the service was excellent and were not rushed to make up our minds, the staff were attentive but not intrusive.
Really nice restaurant inside with great service and lovely food at a reasonable price
Service slower than last time we went but overall not at all bad
Excellent service and good meal out with the family !
We went to the Rupert Brooke for our anniversary meal. Iv been a few times & wanted my husband to try it. He absolutely loved it & we will definitely be going back.
It has such a lovely atmosphere & the staff are all so polite.
The food was delicious.
Can’t wait to return.
We have been to the Rupert Brooke on several occasions during the last 12 months and were looking forward to our visit on Saturday. The menu had recently changed and was not what I had seen online prior to booking. The vegetarian choice seemed quite limited and, in the case of the dish on the main menu, seemed a little pricy at £15 for a tomato flan. I had the vegetarian burger which was a little bland, it needed more seasoning and/or some sort of dressing to go with the burger. The other meals were absolutely fine and we all enjoyed our desserts.
Had great expectations as these guys are in the Michelin Guide with a plate: not sure how they got that? Had the Fish and chips, fish wet and soggy, chips greasy. Not good.
Avoid this place. It took 15 minutes to get a drink at the table even though we were quite happy to get them at the bar upon arrival. Our food request took another 15 minutes and starters took even longer to arrive.
One of our fish meals was rancid. Upon complaining we were told it was fresh that morning and we just got a bad one! Later we were told it was a different type of fish!
Whilst a replacement meal was offered our group felt ill and decided to leave. Only the price of the fish dish and a round of drinks were deducted from the meal. Free arrival drinks at our next visit were offered- a total insult.
A real shame and it will be a long time before we return.
A very smart and comfortable restaurant and pub making it an excellent place to relax for food or drink.
The food was very tasty but portions a bit small and having to pay extra for the vegetables makes a noticable difference to the value of the meal.
A really nice place to visit with good quality food so will certainly visit again.
Ambience was good, eating on terrace was very pleasant. Starters were very disappointing.
Have visited the Rupert Brooke on several occasions and always found it a very enjoyable experience with the food always a very high standard and the service is excellent . The choices on all three courses was imaginative and good value. We shall be returning .
Nice place, nice staff, very nice food not a lot more you could ask for.
Excellent meal at The Rupert Brooke - quality food, efficient and friendly service and big portion sizes. We will be back.
Beautiful setting. plenty of parking. Entrance to bar airy and welcoming. Great decor and furnishing. Tables not over close .attentive service .
A great food choice beautifully cooked and presented food.
Lovely ambiance. Food quite expensive and limited choices, particularly if you are a vegan/vegetarian. Menu is about to be changed and expanded apparently.
Went to The Rupert Brooke exactly 2 years ago for a birthday meal, it was so good we kept meaning to go back. Finally managed to go again for the same occasion, however, the food was awful, nothing like we had remembered and certainly not worthy of the £145 bill :(
Lovely food, more generous that some of the others in the group. Starter of salmon mousse would have been better with some kind of toast/cracker which would have been better. Too close to side door which was irritating with children in and out as the door banged shut. Would not stop me going again, fathers day all said and done!
Fathers Day lunch
Really lovely Sunday lunch - lots of food and very yummy. Only downside was the limited lactose free dessert options for my friend. Other than that, definitely recommend!
Dined here on a Thursday. It was very quiet so little atmosphere. Sat by glass wall as rest of restaurant dark. Not what you want on a summer evening but view was of tbe car park. Thought food ecpensive for what you got and a very restricgive menu.
We enjoyed a very nice Sunday lunch with a couple of friends. There were plenty of vegetables and a huge Yorkshire pudding to go with the beef which was nicely cooked, neither too rare nor too well done. The orange and cumin pannacotta was delicious.
Went on a lovely sunny day and got a table on the balcony. I booked the table at 12:15 on Sunday so there was 2 tables free upon arrival on the balcony. After 12:45 it was all full on the balcony.
As it was Sunday lunch they don't have the full menu which was a slight problem for my girlfriend who is vegetarian. There was only 1 main dish for her to have.
Overall the place is clean, food is lovely and I would recommend it to anyone. The price was relatively high however I would go there again,
Poor menu for vegetarians - very little choice. Waitress mixed up our order twice. Food tasted good though
Absolutely loved the Rupert Brooke. Can’t wait to book again. Would definitely recommend.
We were late arriving but this was not a problem for the restaurant. Food was good except the desserts did not include any thing other than a cheese selection for the older man who does not eat creamy desserts. Perhaps an apple pie or crumble could be added. Otherwise it is our favoured place to entertain guests. Staff lovely and service good
Second time I have been and I look forward to my next visit which, hopefully, will be soon
We had a very nice Sunday roast and delicious dessert in the conservatory.
Once my favorite restaurant. Good bar and friendly staff. Quality of food deteriorating. Portions ridiculously small and nothing special. Please replace management or chief so it can again be like it was a vibrant and fun place to go to. Thank you.
I came here for my mum’s birthday. It was Thursday and the restaurant was quite empty but the didn’t even tried to make us feel comfortable.
I added a note on my reservation for a candle to be added on our desert and called on the day to confirm that this would be done. They forgot the candle and we couldn’t celebrate.
They start closing the restaurant, make all kinds of noises cleaning the coffee machine at 9pm and were on the back of the restaurant acting like we weren’t here.
For this level of restaurant I would expect a different quality of service. I wouldn’t recommend coming here and won’t come back.
A very welcoming experience. Locally sourced gin and fizz. Polite and pleasant staff and exceptionally tasty well presented food.
The food and service were very good. Our small well behaved dog was welcome and the table we were given was spot on for the occasion. It is quite a long time since we last had a meal at the Rupert Brooke but we will be back soon.
Had visited recently and was good to be back for a business lunch and was very busy but service was up to the usual high standard in terms of friendliness and efficiency. Quality of food was great and was an excellent place to meet for business as well as meeting friends and anniversaries. We will of course be back
Pleasant atmosphere and very good food.
The tables are well set to give privacy which contributes to the feel of the place.
Nicely decorated restaurant with good atmosphere and comfortable, spacious seating. Excellent food and friendly service, although a few menu options were unavailable by 7pm on Saturday. Would definitely recommend.
We have visited this restaurant a number of times for both lunch and dinner and standard of excellence is maintained.
The service are wonderful and the food is of a consistent high quality while the wine list is varied and great. The atmostphere is friendly and relaxed and enhances the overall experience and we will certainly be back soon
We sat in the conservatory... too close to the extremely noisy bar where some people had clearly been drinking all day. We could not hear each other across the table, which did not make the meal a social experience. Bearing in mind that three of the party live abroad and we do not see each other even annually. It would have been nice to be able to talk without shouting and leaning across the table.
There was a party upstairs on the terrace, and when one man arrived he decided to drop his pants and "moon" - seemingly funny to him, but his white bottom was off-putting to all of us. Even my 21 year old son commented on him bending forward so much that he could see the man's balls! This man was sadly allowed in and served.
We have eaten at RB several times before, and yes, the food was good as was the service. We will come again, but not on a bank holiday weekend when people have too much to drink and lose all respect for other guests.
Lovely pub with great decoration and ambience. Good food, The service was good but the bar was a bit slow. I would go again and recommend to anyone
