The Rupert Brooke
Great food, service & atmosphere! No more need to be said. Looking forward to returning & recommending you friends
Lovely outside space overlooking the meadows and with a welcome breeze on a hot day. Delicious food, attentive and friendly service. Ordering and payment is by QR code and all contactless.
Given that it was very clear that a lot of people would be making use of the £10 off offer it seems inexcusable to leave your staff struggling to cope on a Wednesday when the offer is Mondays to wednesdays. They did their best but we arrived at 1 and didn’t leave until 4.45. My guests were really hungry.... the food however was delicious and the place is adorable. It was wildly windy but that wasn’t your fault!
I know these are difficult times but a little more thought about staffing could have got you 5 stars from me.
Thanks for lovely food anyway
Lovely meal but late in serving hours so place a little empty. Food fab but could have few more veg on our lamb dish. Staff lovely
Lovely Sunday roast and delicious sticky toffee pudding!
We thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday roast. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was very tasty especially the potato and leek soup. We will be coming again very soon to try something else on the menu! Very COVID safe! Well done
Very nice terraces to sit outside. We choose inside, table was large and seats comfy. Ordering was fast, efficient and friendly. The food we've chosen was OK but nothing to write home about. Rather small portions. Would be a real improvement if they managed to bring some novelty in the menu both as quality and size.
Second visit to the Rupert Brooke in a week and was really enjoyable . Service was fantastic and added to the great flavours in our food it just reminded us how much we had missed this restaurant during the lockdown.
Even in the current difficult times we are in I was rather surprised at the drop in standard of the food and service - staff not in masks, food seemed like left overs, ‘bread’ a chopped up burger bun, booked ‘outside’ to be told ‘full’ on arrival. Disappointed and not usual standards. Lets hope it does as the numbers go back up. 😬
It was lovely to return to the Rupert Brooke after the lockdown and delighted to say that the experience was as good as ever with excellent friendly service and good food. I will be returning asap and we must be support these wonderful places and staff
they did not have what I ordered from the menu. As well, I ordered instead a salad where they forgot some ingredients
Lacking in atmosphere. Service slow and not engaging. Food very average
lovely sunday lunch sitting outside for our daughters birthday
We had a roast lunch which was very mediocre and cold when it arrived. Not enough gravy and not much food . Could of been much nicer. I didn't complain about the cold food as we had treated someone to lunch and i didn't want to make a fuss. But on the whole disappointing compared to previous visits pre-covid.
I have been to the restaurant on a few occasions, including an afternoon tea which was beautiful & delicious.
On this occasion we had a not done enjoyable experience. We were late for our table , so we were put into the conservatory which wasn’t a problem at all . My meal came undercooked , during this time we had not had any drinks , or staff contact for a while . My partner went to find a member of staff. & they were brilliant & replaced the meal & beverages . Very quickly & was very professional.
Overall normally a brilliant experience . Sadly this one not the best .
Need to update menus to small not many vegetarian options
Good venue. Will definitely be going back. We live in Cambridge. One of the best places to take the family.
Only a few days after reopening post lockdown but a great experience. Limited menus but suite understandable in the circumstances, food still very good.
Service was good despite having to keep a,distance with a contactless option we didn’t use.
Covid precautions were just right but kept the dining experience as normal as possible
We sat outside because we had a pushchair. Food and service was good.
A leisurely lunch and a walk into Cambridge, Grantchester is an idilic location.
Yes, I would recommend the Rupert Brooke.
Good to see the Rupert brook open again & hope that you’ll get back the atmosphere of pre COVID days
We had a lovely lunch at the Rupert Brooke and as usual the staff went out of their way to accommodate us. The roast beef lunch was excellent. The only slight criticism is that I found the vegan roast was a little bland and could have been improved with a sauce and a little protein for taste and texture. The puddings were delicious! This is one of our favourite spots in Cambridge as the food, service and atmosphere are always a very high quality.
Roast beef on sunday has always been superb at the Rupert Brooke and when they reopened last weekend they did not disappoint. Fab food and excellent service (so even post Covid they are great). I highly recommend
Mediocre overall. Certainly more interested in presentation than substance I would say. Burger was poor, not served on a brioche bun as per the menu, no apology offered by staff. Duck breast was decent, but the trimmings were lack lustre in flavour. Starter was a beetroot and goats cheese crostini, prepared by someone who thinks piping food is the epitome of haute cuisine. Instagrammable for sure but tasty it was not.
Desert was a saviour of the evening but that's it. Personally, not worth the journey to Grantchester.
Nice food, appalling service, had to ask 3 times for water, had to make them take a drinks order. Chefs did a grand job but no front of house management evident.
The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Food was delicious especially the haddock and chips. Thank you
My Main course of Gnocci with heritage carrots & carrot puree was really not very nice. The gnocci had the consistency of undercooked dough/batter and were completely tasteless, as was the carrot puree. For what I received on my plate I did not feel it warranted the £16 price tag. I was inherently British though and didn't say anything at the time as was conscious it was very quiet in there for a Friday lunchtime (coronavirus no doubt)….. other than that the staff were lovely, good service and my friend enjoyed her lunch.
Staff very welcoming and friendly.
Food was nice and service good.
Would recommend to friends.
Great food and service. Would definitely return again
Have visited this restaurant a number of times and with a new management team was interested to see how things had changed. Very friendly serving us and food was of a high quality and variety was excellent. Will be returning soon
Great Sunday lunch, although very little selection left at 4pm. Good for a drink or food. Recommended.
This is one of our favourite places to come and eat.
We have never had a bad meal here and are always made to feel welcome.
The main reason to write this review is the pumpkin and spinach curry ( I am not vegetarian and hate pumpkin!) However I chose as looked healthy option for midweek meal and it was incredible. I have never liked pumpkin so a first for me. It's amazing and I would go back just to have it again.
Lovely staff, great menu, I can definitely recommend it ….and try that curry!
Nice restaurant and friendly staff. Starter, very good
Main, poor, replacement, average
We had to wait a long time for our meals! We had to ask for our plates to be taken away and had to ask for coffee etc. The restaurant wasn’t busy but the staff pleasant but unattentive !! More training??
Lovely meal and surroundings, great service
Excellent service, delicious food in a good setting
Excellent Sunday lunch. Good selection of vegetables and perfectly cooked beef.
Our server, Sebastian, was attentive and efficient.
Have already recommended to friends !
We had a nice meal, although there were several things no longer available on the menu. The scallops starter was particularly good, but I had to ask for a part of my main course to arrive (it was in a separate dish, forgotten).
We had a family meal and the food was very good and the staff very attentive.
We have been before and loved eating there but this time it was very poor . I had the Hock for a starter and if I’m honest had this awful after taste similar to when you are physically ill and run out of food to bring up. Sorry but that’s what it tasted like !!
My wife had the rib eye steak and whilst the meat was well cooked it had an awful lot of fat which I don’t think should be in a £24 steak.
Sorry if this not what you want to read but was wonderful last time has gone to poor this time.
